Its content is shaped by those who interface with it and provide it with information. Especially now, with it's speed and unprecedented levels of connectivity and interactivity; it has become a point in which part of your mind or personality can spill over into the net. This is nice, but then there is a level of anonymity coupled with it. While anonymity is useful in some cases, others abuse it to put people down, people just as equally anonymous. A lot of the time people say things on the internet that no sane person would say in person, barriers and safegaurds against getting socked in the face usually prevent inflammatory behavior. On the web, you could be the worst version of yourself, and get away with it because nobody can punch you over the internet (not yet, anyway).

This is sorta falling apart to the point that you may think I am advocating bodily harm as a means to curb inflammatory behavior. But I am not, it is loss of face (pardon the pun) that prevents people from acting in a way that prevents others from liking them. Getting back on topic, it is this sort of connected-ness that allows such a community like Housepets! or the furry fandom in general to exist! Aside from cons or the occasional friend, interacting with fellow community members around the globe would be difficult without this networking. Many wouldn't even have known that such a community existed.

So such a fandom, or however you define it, is the collective acknowledgement by all involved, it practically knew its way into existence. And as such, solidified in the minds of all who identify with it and transmuted into a meme. (not lolcat memes, this sort of meme) Being a furry, however you define it, is an idea that lives in you and is a personal concept that many people here share. What keeps this community strong is the desire for community, the cohesiveness we all try to foster is born out of our desire to make others happy.
Just wanted to say I, too, enjoyed reading this. I hope for more intelligent talks in this topic more and I should keep my eye out here more. =3

Well we all know the real Robin Hood was the Disney version. That film is a documentary.

Did you know that the "Hamster Dance" is actually the intro to Disney's "Robin Hood" but sped up and remixed? Listen to the songs and compare them.
Just goes to show how good Robin Hood actually is!

Ah, yes! When, a few years ago, I first heard the "hamster dance", as you just revealed to me it was called, I thought to myself "Where did I hear this song before? Wasn't this the Robin Hood song?"

I made a modified version of a dance script in SL (fixing some minor bugs in a free dance script) that I call the hamsterdancer. Click on it and it starts you dancing in sync with everyone else using it. It's got a dancing hamster animation running on all four sides, of course.

I've seen a good deal of it. It's... strange. The talent behind it (The director was behind Tron; One of the animators was Lion King director Roger Allers, and the other was Brad Bird, of The Iron Giant fame) didn't stop the movie from aging pretty poorly. Though, this is coming from a non-furry and non-Olympics fan, so maybe it's just a movie that nowadays caters to some specific tastes.

I think several characters didn't exist and he wasn't half wolf in real life. But the concept is pretty accurate. Obviously they took an artistic license.

I loved the Balto movies, back in the day! The first one is based on real life events, also!
Never saw the third one, though.

Still, after seeing the second one, I began distrusting the aurora borealis, the North American tundra, and most of all, the Inuits. Seeing Brother Bear didn't help, either.

Does this help the discussion or hurt it? No idea, but I like wiki so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balto

Edit: I really wish they didn't stuff him. Puts a knife right in those childhood dreams =(

Thanks for the link, good sir!
I knew the dog sled race made for delivering the medicine was real, but not that Balto was.

They stuffed him, you say?

Ironically, they did it because they wanted him to be physically preserved, and thus remembered forever.

No problem, but the way I see it, he can be remembered in history books and movies. I think it's sad what they did to him.

True, true, But you see?! We mortal beings (Specially animals, but also humans are affected heavily by this.) have an ulterior desire to see things in person, to touch them, watch, them, hear, them, smell them, feel them through their bodies, instead of using their imaginations.
That's why stuffed animal remains, which you see as a macabre display, are mostly made for exposition or even, as is Balto's case, as a way of holding the tide of entropy, so that, in sense, they may live forever.

And that is ALSO why Mr. Griffin's "Ten Thousand Miles Up" and "Heaven is other Rokko" short stories are far, FAR less known and popular as his Housepets! webcomic!

I knew it was based off true events but who's to say he didn't have a goose friend, huh? I demand proof!

I didn't know that they stuffed him though, that's pretty cool!

Balto is essentially top dog, he found his way to Nome in practically whiteout conditions. Some dogs can't even find their way out of an empty room.

I loved that movie as a child. Was released on the same year I was born. Although lots of things technically were. Brb, learning about history.

Curious, I was going to go for "Future" and "Inevitable" myself!

Also I wish to make quotation here, concerning hostility against the furry fandom:
"Even when your kind appears to triumph... still, we rise again. And, do you know why? It is because the Order Fandom is born of a REALIZATION. We require no creed! No indoctrination by desperate, old men. All we need is that the world be as it is. And THIS is why the Templars Furries will never be destroyed!"

Mishka has gotten really famous since a few commercials that her videos were used for examples for that one phone, or was it somethings else? speaking of videos, there is one with all the furry cons in review. It also used a great song by Glitch Mob, called We Can Change the World. Gotta check it out, it's awesome.

Love Glitch Mob, good to know they are getting a wider audience. A fandom is like a catalyst and a meme can spread like wildfire so many people use it to accelerate the dissemination of an idea.

I have another piece of furry pop culture to share. Has anyone ever heard of an anime with furry characters called "Beast Knights Gulkeeva"? Its also been called "Wild Knights Gulkeeva". I guess you could say it is almost like a male version of Sailor Moon. A boy finds out he is the reincarnation of a great warrior and with help from some furries he has to stop an extra-dimensional invasion of Earth. It has never had an official release in the west, but an Australian fan has made a fan sub and put it on youtube.

Well played, Sleet. Well played.

Now that I think about it I guess it could be compared to Ronin Warriors as well.

Here is the first part of the first episode for those who are curious.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjzwu5sfuoQ

And this episode taught me a tragic fact about the furry fandom. Even though little kids want to run up and hug you and be your friend, you must not let them, because on way or another they always end up DYING ON YOU!
