Title Text: we'll get back to the story in a bit, I... er, Res has some things he needs to say

Consider this your right of passage, Res.

Good to see our favorite Canadian Cat back! I've been wondering if we were going to see him again.

Possible. But the alt text implies this is going to be a short arc disconnected from that story. We shall see...

Res making an appearance for the first time in 2 years! I've always liked that character, glad to see more of him.

Res last showed up in early 2018, and was present for the entirety of 2017. Prior to that, the last appearance was 2012. Interestingly, he made a return from his last 2012 appearance 5 years later in 2017, also with a page titled "Meanwhile in Canada". If it's anything like last time, we can expect to see a lot of Res in the coming year.

It’s quite true, as a writer says,
the hero is made to be hurt.
You wouldn’t care if nothing was there;
turning pages at quite a spurt.
Meltzer once claimed ‘nothing serious
happens to a main character’*
but it happens all around them ;
they are merely pain’s contractor.
Rick...Res is a lovely guy
but a writer MUST hurt his kids.
It means nothing to rise above
if you don’t also hit the skids.

I can (kinda?) relate, Res. I have a tendency to make my characters suffer WAY too much (one of the reasons I would hesitate to publish my original stories in Media Meridian; they tend to be quite "graphic".) I wonder sometimes if my stories are subconsciously based around my own issues... :?

I was literally thinking about him, when writing my previous comment in previous strip thread, haha. I am so glad, because I love him and I always welcome more Res :D

Also I pretty agree with what he says. I mean, that's not a secret that for people to feel sympathy to the character, something has to be done to them. I only hates when author kills the character. Or don't make them hard, but just laugh at them. When writing the latter I thought about Yamcha, who wasn't bad, who had his flaws, but so did Vegeta, but them both was pretty much losing all their battles, both by cockiness, but Yamcha cared about people, while Vegeta didn't, but it's Yamcha that everyone laughs at, because Toriyama hated him. But no more offtopic.
It's okay to make character suffer. But laughing at them is cruel :( Even worse than killing.

Nice to see our nervous Canadian tabby! Res, a little advice don’t call on the ones in the back, they’re usually trouble. I say that as a person who sat in the back. I’m thinking that, as the alt-text implies, we might see Rick vent a little through Res, (No problem with that, he’s certainly given us enough quality stories and he he wants to vent in a fun way, who am I to complain?) or, we might catch up with our Canadian cat. Alternatively, he could flee to Babylon Gardens again, but not end up with our main characters either helping in the battle or becoming imperiled and someone, perhaps the Sandwich group, finds out (Max, Peanut, Grape and Tarot) and they leave heaven to help him.

Nice to see Res, and his facial expressions make this an enjoyable page all by themselves. I wonder how Grape will feel about missing this event, when it is in Canada, she is in paradise and she is personal friends with the author.

I came to the thread to make a fridge logic comment about how Res's comment is actually Rick... and then I noticed the title text in the first post. (lol at myself on Android.)

I can empathize with Rick venting a bit, and this seems like a good way to do it.

Poor Res. Can't even receive credit for his own work, lives MILES away from any of his friends, had to fight a giant lava monster (by himself) and now had to deal with... his fans.

So, Res has a maple leaf on his collar. Maple leafs are red and leaves turn red in fall. His insignia is gold, but leaves also turn gold in fall. We first see Res in a coffee shop eating a punkin latte burrito. Pumpkin lattes are associated with fall. Res is Autumn.

To be fair, the Res that we first meet didn't want the credit. He couldn't deal with that kind of stress. He was far more comfortable giving Miss Auburn the credit while he ghost wrote the story.

And given his interactuin with his fans... seems to have been a good choice. :-)

my mind just entered the fourth dimension for a minute, would it really be res, as he's a cat? i can see some similarity in the top of head furstyles with fox, spring, summer, and res along with some body similarities, but would it really be res over mungo? he's a strong contender, but i'm gonna hold out(even though i'm probably wrong now lol).

Nice little intermission with Res to know what he's doing, has been a while. ;) You mean to have completed all the stories of Pridelands, Res? Sounds great. :) Eh, it's not always good to listen at your fans, right because of that... There's always someone who's not happy with a choice done by the writer. You have a point there, Res, but maybe in this case the fan liked that character from the beginning. :P

Allow me to clarify, I don't Res is Autumn, at least no more than anyone could be this point. It was a joke about fan theories and the moon logic that can go into them, and I happened to remember he first appeared in a coffee shop and I was just going to go with that and make the second leap to pumpkin lattes but when I checked it happened he did have a pumpkin latte burrito. My actual theory is just we/Fox haven't meet them yet.

Looks like Rick had picked up on the fact that some of the fans were revolting at him because of what he was doing to Fox and began to trash him. If I was Rick, I would do a lot worser than use Res to voice my frustrations with people. He truly has the patience of a saint.

Story consultant, no she does the editing,
But as long as Res still gets some crediting-
The opus is done, time to see fans,
But they're critics who don't like your plans.

Fans, Res doesn't hate them, no,
Except for when they clearly show
That he's out to cause his characters pain
Despite what you just heard him calmly explain.

He isn't psycho, not one sliver,
But their ignorance makes Res quiver
But since he really doesn't care in the first place,
He'll grimace- and answer with grace.
You're a wonderful person! You can do this! Yes, you, person reading this!
