No insight like you all,
...but I LOVED this strip! I'm doing pushups this morning just so I can share in the upcoming pain; It'll add to the dimensionality of the strip ;)

The 'Y' in gym <3

Also, methinks that Max did too god a job of appearing as a self-assured, rogue tomcat. Grape better be very forgiving with her beau :3

I love the Road Rovers reference!

Most likely the combination of zeal and subnormal intelligence will make Kevin a cruel task master in the gym.

Oh Max.

The only way you could get abs like Jata would be to go back in time and pick jaguars as your parents.

Just accept that you're cute and cuddly, not an ivory-clawed engine of destruction.

I have never heard of Road Rovers. Apparently Rick is taking the Homestar Runner approach to pop culture references.

I love how watching those cartoons from the 90s and watching them now, you notice certain things you never thought of while you were young. Now I look back and I'm like, "Wait, WHAT! They got away with that???" Animaniacs was another fave of mine which had sooooo many innuendos XD

Let's see -- in 1996 and '97 I was busy making Y2K safe for the World (we were wildly successful -- so the Media blamed us for leading them on). I guess I missed it.

I'm still bitter about that. I spent that New Years in our Y2K center, biting my nails waiting for our first customer site in Australia to roll over... when Australia made it into the new year without losing power we celebrated... with cokes.

Then they went on about how Russia hadn't bothered and nothing happened to them. Russia didn't have to worry about anything, most of their critical infrastructure was running Western European and US software. They got a free ride.

Rick could age the character models sufficiently enough to create Lawyer Friendly Cameos , and just refer to the show itself as "RR" or have a running joke of people being interrupted (or their speech balloons covered mid sentence) any time they mention the name of the show, much like he did on the poster here.
Now you inspired me into writing that scene! Happy?!

 Wow the last Panel really surprised me
Somehow it was clear something like this will come, but still....
I just LOVE Kevins Face, because it says so many things:

-"I'm the DOG!"
-"I know you would come"

Okay maybe not so much, but still it's just Awesome.
Thats one of the things I really adore in Housepets, the facial expressions are always fitting and they help the humor so much :D

I see Max is still in full on Angst Mode from last arc. ^^; I guess once it hits, it hits all at once.

Also, Kevin's face is the greatest. "Oh, yeah. I'm that awesome."

Ah, poor Max, you're taking all too much seriously, it's making you feel down. Grape looks sincere on what's saying, hopefully, so she really loves you... About gym training, it's not what you need; appareance it's not all, fortunately, show you best side to Grape.

I'm not liking all this recent desperation and depression put on Max, let's leave him a bit alone. :P

Well after that strip I think it will be a little bit like the Gallifrax Protocoll, we have two storys in one arc:
1.) The date with Jata, Sabrina and "Concord"

2.) Max getting trained/humiliated by Kevin

maybe the thing with the gym is a foreshadowing for a another Arc, but I don't really think so.
It could be we'll see Fido again in the next few strips.

At first I blamed the cheetah for being so muscular, but I have to say this is Grape's fault. She's the smart one, she should know that Max would do something crazy that will end in a comedic tragedy.
