Re: When I was young(er)...
When I was younger, I didn't yet understand that the temperature everybody called minus 20 was really below minus 40. And when that first one's in Celsius, it's the sort of difference that can cause you to lose a few extremities! Also hadn’t learned yet that the best way to prevent frostbite was to ...

Well when I went to the Prague philharmonic a few years ago, the conductor there was literally leaping all over the stage, you could really tell how much he loved the music that was being played. Lots, but, "Startide Rising" by David Brin, probably beats out all the others. I love how in-depth it gets about the dolphin characters' culture and thinking, without ever seeming to slow the plot down.

From a little bit of worldbuilding I'm doing... "...for the most part, windriding can be thought of as analogous to driving a car, if you were driving naked, and the car was intangible, and it would explode whenever you so much as thought about stopping." Seems a little disingenuous, yeah,...

Oooh, an American pine marten or a yellow-throated marten.
I think the pine martens are prettier, but I knew a very friendly yellow-throated marten at a zoo near here for several years.

Not much of a rodent person, but I think rats deserve more respect than they get, especially in fiction. They’re smart, and sociable, and a lot cleaner than they're given credit for. My least-favourite rodent is a lot easier. It's squirrels. Because they hate me. To be fair, I think they hate everyo...

TUAM's username derives from acceleration due to gravity, but doesn't specify how many g's they are experiencing or why this is important. (suspicious, sez I...) The only thing that would make it important, is if the g-force they experience is different from the rest of us, and the only way that wou...
