It looks like the footprints end a little bit further ahead. Inspecting the bushes and howling for Echo might be the best decision.

So, Grape was probably told about Rufus's death, but chose not to believe it thinking it's just a prank.
Or she believed it and didn't expect Rufus to show up again, leading her to think it's all an elaborate ruse when he decided to join them.
