I'm with the whole mindset of, "it's your comic, do what you want with it." You'll have fans no matter which direction you go, so it's just a matter of deciding for yourself how you want to take it.

If you look at Grape, she has whiskers, and a long, fluffy tail. The dogs have short, relatively thin tales.

I love cats, but I think I have to go with Peanut on this one. There's just something so OMGROFL about his youthfulness, naivety, lack of common sense, etc...it's just charming and endearing, and is great for laughing at his expense.
