Re: 2014/10/03 - Meanwhile In Heaven
Many things have gotten some type of reaction from me in this comic. It may be "oh, that's interesting," "that's pretty cool," "neat twist," or just "wow." Rick, this is the first time I was literally slack-jawed at how the story went. Now that is quite the a...

Well I wasn't expecting THAT to happen. O.o
What the heck is going on? O.O
Why do I have a feeling that there's going to be unforseen consequences to all of this then we first anticipated? O.O

See also, the later "Heechee" novels by Pohl (with one unfortunate virtual clone of an anti-AI military officer who spends his time in VR getting virtually drunk because he knows his original will never let him rejoin his conscience but will shut him down instead), about 80% of Greg Egan'...

Re: 2014/09/15 - . . . Fuzzy
Besides, I always can't understand why make them amnesia. If they don't have any self-awareness, how can it be a punish for them? Yeh, that bit seems creepy. Think of what it's like for the mortal they spend their life as, they show up at the pearly gates and Cerberus is all "Oh, sorry, you do...

Re: 2014/09/15 - . . . Fuzzy
Interesting idea: Tarot IS Dragon. Time is objective in Heaven, so it's possible Dragon and Pete might not be incarnated in the present timeframe. That opens up the possibility that Dragon could've been incarnated as Tarot, which would explain Tarot's latent powers. I've had this sort of theory bef...

Re: End of an Era
Glad it had a happy ending. Though I'm still both excited and nervous about how Pete and Dragon will be handled. (Or in the worst case scenario NOT handled.)
And the gods in general.
I REALLY hope this isn't Pete's, Dragons, Kitsune's and Cerberus's last appearance.

Re: 2014/09/15 - . . . Fuzzy
Glad to see King chose to stay a Dog. A great ending, but dissapointed we don't get to see Dragon and Pete for this last bit. Though maybe Wednesday we'll get to see them. Who knows.
Here's hoping they don't get mindwiped and the gods in general continue to be characters in the story.

Yeaaaaah. This is a Test. Kitsune is testing King/Joel's values and beliefs. Joel has from the VERY BEGINNING. Raged against the gods regarding their treatment and interfering in mortal affairs and lives...When it was negatively affected King/Joel's life. Picking to be human see's the gods actively ...

Wirewolf, you just made me appreciate poetry even more. Well done. :) Monsieur Jean de La Fontaine is a favorite of mine. ^.^; 17th Century writer most famous for his book of Fables. The ending verse was added by Charles Dennis back in 1754 and for me it's worthy of inclusion with Fontaine's origin...

Re: 2014/09/10 - Consultation Prize
On the converse side the huge amount of focus on King and the cosmic nerds that really took off during Dog Days Of Summer made a lot of people feel like he changed a comic that was slice-of-life with a moderate amount of supernatural events into a completely different comic where everything was foc...

Then it's not Pete and Dragon.Dissension wrote:Also, the not-remembering comes during their mortal period, not after.
This goes back to the fact that who we are is completely predicated on our memories and experiences. Without those we're not who we are.

Re: 2014/09/10 - Consultation Prize
YES! I would love to see them dumped in the gardens with the other pets. That would be a great plot point and would make the story far more interesting. I guess it depends on what is in those boxes. I also am not the kind of person to say stuff like, "I HAVE WAITED FOR YEARS FOR THIS!" Wh...

Re: 2014/09/10 - Consultation Prize
We've spent years following Pete and Dragon and parsing out their personalities, foibles, sin's, pain and flaws. How I wish that was true for me. I have spent 1 month following them. It is kind of good to have though. All these people saying 'I HAVE WAITED YEARS FOR THIS!' and I say 'I HAVE WAITED ...

I like to think of that too, but maybe that attitude is just in the nature of foxes. They play with mind tricks. :P Fox's have been quintessential tricksters in a lot of human storytelling and mythology. Reynard the Fox being a really good European example. Let's see, what loose ends do we have: Ta...

Re: 2014/09/10 - Consultation Prize
Mmmmm. I'm now sorta worried that Rick's going to completely drop the whole supernatural angle. Which would really suck. Cerberus, Great Kitsune, Dragon and Pete....They're all fascinating characters and really helped set this comic apart from a lot of other ones. Hell it was the 'Great Game' that i...

Re: 2014/09/10 - Consultation Prize
You assume they're going to be human? :p Animals in HP! only live about 40 years. But the jerk move doesn't change if they're just unusually long-lived animals. The terms of the contract could be 'Sixty Years equivalent in pet years' not sixty human years. Honestly? I'd be INCREDIBLY surprised if K...

Re: 2014/09/10 - Consultation Prize
Definitely not happy about the whole "they won't remember" thing though. What's the point of even doing it then? I think it means they won't remember, as humans, that they used to be gods. Which is still kind of a jerk move. You live your life as a mortal and die and instead of getting yo...

Pete may be back much sooner than one thinks: after all, Keene needs his 'divine employee' for his plans. And Keene is currently the only mortal who detains an active mana egg imbued with Pete's power. And there is STILL the question of the giant blue griffin feather: Who knows? Grape could write d...

Re: 2014/09/10 - Consultation Prize
More than likely the Mortal thems won't recall being higher beings. After their time is done they'll return to the higher state and - probably - remember their mortal lives. Which is problematic because it more or less erases Pete and Dragon from the story for the foreseeable future. Whatever morta...

Re: 2014/09/10 - Consultation Prize
Everyone is ignoring another possibility. Maybe Pete and Dragon will simply have the terms of the Contract Retgonned from their minds. Read what Kitsune said. "Which will last a minimum of 60 years--Though they won't remember." It sort of defeats the purpose of being made mortal when you k...
