Wait, why were they banned, what does a bot mean?

A bot is an artificial intelligence that is programmed to post things on forums. They can do any number of things, but are not generally allowed here.

How did we know it was a bot?

There are a couple of ways to tell. Their posts are either nonsensical or are just copies of other people's posts put through a thesaurus or are just advertising something. They'll often have a link in their signature to a site completely unrelated to the forums and the url can look spammy. Often the name of the site they're linking to will also be their username. Or the username will be either a random string of characters or something "normal" like Paul or Alison instead of a typical username. They'll also often work the same url into their posts. They usually won't have a profile pic or if they do it'll be a picture of a model to try to make them look like a real person. We can also check the IP address they're posting from. If they posting from somewhere like Kyrgyzstan then you know they're probably using an IP randomiser and aren't a real person.

So yeah, lots of little signs that on their own may not mean anything but together scream "BOT!".
