Well, I have, several times, we have a few near here in local canals and ponds, majestic creatures, bigger than you think. I walked right past one once and it just watched me, must have come within meters of it.

Have you ever owned a record player....

No, never been to America :)

What's it like (the reservation), I would imagine the brief bits I've seen on TV don't really paint the whole picture so to speak.

Ever rode on a steam train?

Daunted

Gee, I thought you were American!  Anywho, the Rez is pretty tough, honestly. We get at least one guy dead everyday, a bunch of homelsss people, litter everywhere...

But that's only on the outskirts. The inner city looks fairly nice.

Yes, I've ridden on a steam-train. It was at a technology fair in Minnesota. Had a big train circling the fairgrounds.

Ever been on a cruise ship?

Yes, when I was a kid, more of a large ferry really, the one we were due to go on had a fire on board so we got transferred to another bigger one, we got upgraded to first class cabins, it was amazing. On the way back we hit a huge storm, the whole ship was rising and falling so much it felt like you were weightless for some of the time, I don't get seasick it turns out thankfully. Greta fun as a kid.

Easy mistake to make, most people here seem to be American so I can see that it would be an easy assumption, sorry to hear things are still hard on reservations, I remember reading Bury my Heart at Wounded knee a long while back, an interesting but quite bleak read. Thankfully deaths through unnatural causes are very rare round here (I am thankful I live in a place where violent crime is very rare), still get litter and homeless persons (the Pandemic has meant more people are on hard times). I guess these reservations are quite big, never thought about a City in a reservation.

I've ridden on the Mallard steam train (pretty well known).

Ever ridden a motorbike?

You lucky son of a gun! I'm a big fan of Mallard. I've only ever seen it sitting at the National Railway Museum in York, I've never seen it in action in real life, let alone had a ride!

Though I HAVE seen Flying Scotsman in action...if you count it pulling one dinky little coach "action"...of course I took a video.

DDeer wrote: Mon May 31, 2021 6:09 amEver ridden a motorbike?
No, but I'd like to learn how to one day and maybe own one of my own.

Ever seen a particularly rare animal in real life?

Nope.

HYE ran for four minutes straight?

Oh, yeah. In the Army, we ran two miles every day. I kept that up for many years as a health discipline, but eventually moved into gyms and treadmills out of fear of stumbling (a common preoccupation of us older folks).

Have you ever swam a mile?

Nope, this deer is rather unusually not a good swimmer, I do like to bodyboard though, being light I can go right into the shore to the point that the board is left high and dry and I just step off.

Have you ever built anything?

Seriously, though, it is something I'd like to learn someday.

Have you ever seen a wild mountain lion (or, to be fair to other continents, any other cat-that-is-big) just casually crossing the highway?

Commodore 64. Bought it for the kids. They hated it!

No. Almost did when I was little, but there was a storm and the gliders were ripped anyway.

Yes
I had a beautiful little leopard gecko during all my high-school years, as well as through most of university/college.

Have you ever spent some time getting to know or befriend a wild animal-- either at a zoo, or at a sanctuary/rescue, or just out in nature?
...sorry I couldn't think of anything more original...

Sorta.
When we moved to my childhood home, the neighborhood was pretty rustic. Mice and copperhead snake were a problem for us and for many of the neighbors - lots of logs and lumber scattered around that copperheads like to shelter in. Well, after our first year, a king snake moved under our porch.
She got rid of all the pests and became a permanent resident for many years, even had a couple of broods.

My mother, who was a bit of a nature girl, was very emphatic that I not bother the snake - as Mom put it, "We have a treaty with the snake - we give her shelter and she keeps out the mice and bad snakes." I often saw the King snake patrolling in the yards and gardens and, occasionally, let her crawl through my hands (Mom would NOT have been pleased!).

Back in North Carolina, there was an indigo snake who lived in our shrubbery for many years and a family of Cardinals as well.

So, have you ever, camped in a national park for two or three nights?

Naw. It is, again, something I'd like to do.
I have faint memories of a few camping trips when I was young -- I think it rained every time, but they're still good memories.

Ever gone back to an old, "finished" project (creative or otherwise) with some new tools and experience, and been amazed at how much better you can make it?

Yes. When I was stationed in South Korea back in my army days, I frequently had to travel to Japan. Never developd a taste for sushi, though.

Have you ever camped out in snowy weather?

Yup. Animal Farm was probably the first, but a fair number of others as well. I did that a lot as a kid on rainy days at the Ossipee Lake cabin.

When you were a kid, did you ever bicycle five miles or more in one day?
