Housepets! (Un)official Size Chart

Yes! At long last, I've done it! Attached is the first long-requested size chart for the Housepets! characters. There is an important disclaimer I must make: Rick has aid that he cannot guarantee his characters' heights to remain constant, although he does try to draw them consistently.

The chart was made using the following observations from the comic: You'll notice that, save for June 16, 2010, all the other dates are prior to Christmas 2009. This is because I made this list as part of the argument in the comments section about whether King really was too short, or he was just sitting down.

There are two assumptions I've made that may discredit the chart entirely: Firstly, that the "vet orderly" and Mr. Sandwich are "average human"s. Secondly, that Gaspar/Pete is at least three inches taller than an average human.

And now, without further ado, the First Housepets! (Un)official Size Chart:

Fox looks awesomely cute with legs and feet in that position. Did you draw it by yourself, or did you cut it out of another comic?

It's a mix. The head and body is obviously from Where Do Lonely Hearts Go; the bottom of the right leg is his left leg from Something Is Missing. For the left leg I improvised looking at the other dogs in the chart. I also drew the upper part of the right leg and the elbow mainly out of gueswork.

Their heights changed when I did the art shift, so that cats tend to be shorter than dogs.

The characters look all off when put that way. It's probably the different art styles.

I don't think Tiger is that much shorter than Bino.

I guess that explains Gaspar/Pete. I'm 5'7", the perfect height to sympathize with short people, but still be able to see over their heads :)
rickgriffin wrote:Their heights changed when I did the art shift, so that cats tend to be shorter than dogs.
Okay, so that invalidates Grape's height. I checked the strips at the beginning of the "Imaginate Too!" arc and Grape's an inch+ shorter than Peanut. She's also tall enough that King reaches the bottom of her eyeballs (June 30, 2010). I fixed that in the attached chart.
Dubiousity wrote:I don't think Tiger is that much shorter than Bino.
The only time we've seen them together was on November 25, 2009. We'll be able to confirm this when I do Fido (November 16, 2009)
Shyanne wrote:I wish I was shorter..I guess I'm average, stuck right at 5'11'' lol
Yeeee... sort of. The average height is 5'10". I made a typo.

I've attached a chart in metrics. I have no further comment.

Well in that comic I believe Tiger is a bit further in the background, but just a little, which is why he seems shorter.

EDIT : I know this is prior to the art shift, but since it primarily affected the height of cats, this may help.

They're the same height.

Average Human = silhouette of the male on the Pioneer Plaque.

I think that might make Miles around 1.35 m (4'5") since he's about even with the neckline of humans:

while Peanut is only up to Miles's neck line:

Since we're dealing with sizes, here's a nifty converter for standard and metric: http://www.albireo.ch/bodyconverter/

Indagare, that'll be useful, especially to everyone else; I don't plan to do Miles until the very end.
Kitch wrote:Average Human = silhouette of the male on the Pioneer Plaque.
Yay! Somebody noticed!
Of course, the height is by modern standards; it's not the height on the Pioneer Plaque.
Dubiousity wrote:Well in that comic I believe Tiger is a bit further in the background, but just a little, which is why he seems shorter.
I want to settle this problem, so I made a chart with Fido. King is up to Fido's neck (July 2, 2010). Tiger is up to Fido's Mouth (November 11, 2010) and Bino is up to Fido's eyes (idem)

The only problem here is that Fox is supposed to be up to Fido's nose (July 27, 2010) and here he's nearly as tall as Fido, so I may not be settling anything after all :) (Of course, that could be attributed to him standing closer to us)

Read this strip, then the one immediately after, if you don't notice the art change then, I don't know what to say.

How is that remotely appropriate I don't even.

Observation: Cats are generally about a head-length shorter than dogs. I'm just sayin'.

I kind of do. I see it moreso in the later comics vs early ones, than that one to the next.

Well, Pete can make himself as big or small as he wants, and I believe he varies alot throughout the comic.
