Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Oh dear, I hop the Three Stooges didn't hear Pinch and Gulley calling Tackle Tackle. Things could get awkward otherwise.
Earthquake or eruption anyone? The Caribbean is seismically active after all.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Wait, 5th wall? How many walls are there?
Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
There's actually 8 walls. But we only talk about 4 because the other walls act as buffers so the experience is completely surrounded.

You know I wouldn't be surprised to run into Cinnamon on the Impudence with the way this is going.Argent wrote:Also, there's no magic in this neighborhood (other than talking birds of course).
And ther are two possibel species for the Giant Rats, the Coypu which can weigh up to 9kg and grow to 60cm long (not counting the tail) and the Wooly Giant Rat which can grow to 30cm long with a tail 16cm long. Of the two, the Wooly Giant Rat is the only true rat, however I think the Coypu (also called river rat) is the most likely species which they have encountered. They also have orange teeth, oddly enough.

Also agouti, pacas, and acouchi. South America is lousy with giant rodents.

So which did the Stooges meet?
Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
agouti are the only ones I found with a native range including the Caribbean islands.

I guess they were agouti then. Assuming the Stooges saw them at all.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Well the Caribbean is apparently seismically active. Ito wouldn't be unheard of for there to be a volcano on a random island.
Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Just to avoid confusion: The smoke on the island was from the castaway's camp. There's been no indication of a volcano. The cliffs are likely to have lots of lovely sea caves though.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
I know. I was thinking the cliffs sloping up to a volcano or somesuch.
An eruption followed by a mad dash to the boats could be a lot of fun.
According to wikipedia there are 24 volcanoes in the Caribbean. I think we can take a bit of poetic licence and have one or two more.
It's up to you though, Argent. We can ditch the volcano if you like.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Almost all the volcanoes in the Caribbean are in the Lesser Antilles, which are basically the edge of the plate.
And most islands with active volcanoes *and* thick forest on them are pretty darn big.

And is this island that we're on very sizeable? And are we near the Antilles at all?
Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
No, it's a small island, and it's just off the coast.

We can always make one up. We don't have to follow history exactly.

And here I am checking on the reigns of the kings of Spain so I can be sure Eduardo's was claiming the island for the historically accurate monarch.
Oh, the jungle is full of small animals, rat-sized and smaller, as well as lizards, birds, snakes... all of which are terrified of Blacks, who's the biggest scariest thing that's been in this part of the jungle in decades.

From tomorrow to Wednesday I'll be off with minimal to no chance for connection to internet. I would like to ask Hotep the psychic to take command of Patrick once more for that time.
I am The Moon Howler - the being with no exact form. I serve the Moon Goddess and in return, she gives me my muse and my shape.

Yummy.
Just post when you can, Hotep. GOod luck with the new job!
OK, I know it's cliched and historically inaccurate but what piratical adventure would be complete without a chest of treasure guarded by a skeleton?

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Guys, rats are small animals, they don't make a lot of noise, there's no way someone at the beach or in the jungle could hear a rat squeaking or screaming at the cliffs. Heck, it would be hard to hear a rat at the edge of the jungle if you were at the edge of the water.
I promised a better description of the island yesterday, I didn't get it done, sorry, I've been busy.
The island is basically peanut shaped, with a ridge of rock that you wouldn't quite call mountains running down the length of the island, extending into cliffs at both ends. The southeast end of the ridge curves around, forming a cove with a long beach that extends all the way around the middle of the peanut. There are little streams and rivers all along the south side of the island, forming breaks in the beach, but they're fairly shallow as they cross the sand and won't stop a determined rat.
The ship is moored off the cliffs, about half a mile as I recall. The pirates landing spot is about half a mile (or half an hour for a rat) along the beach from the cliffs, on the bulgy part of the south-eastern "nut" of the peanut. The castaway's camp where Dune and Christopher were living is halfway up a shallow section of the ridge. The ruins are deep in a valley nearby.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
The sea caves:
The only people who know there are actually sea caves at the base of the cliffs, as opposed to speculating about it, are the four rats who got lost, and *maybe* Dune and Christopher if they explored around that end of the beach.
All the speculation about coves and volcanoes and caves and whatever else, earlier on, was just speculation. There's no cove. There's no volcano. And characters only know about things they've actually seen.
Gulley doesn't know about the caves.
Cedric doesn't know about the caves.
Pinch doesn't know about the caves.
Blacks doesn't know about the caves.
Patrick doesn't know about the caves.
Jin doesn't know about the caves.
Rhyme doesn't know about the caves.
James and Eduardo and the captain and their hearty sailors and bully boys don't know about the caves.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Also, snake scales are not like fish scales. You can't yank them off because they form a smooth skin. The only way to get them off would be to completely skin the snake or to wait for it to shed.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
remember were in tropics, snakes in the tropics or even in south America and Africa have some species where its a different skin due to heat, for this scales can be ripped off like fish, against its direction for separation, this allows some snakes to easily shed skin once the heat has basically caused sunburn over certain areas, a good species that does this would be the mamba or some species of cobra.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Well I'm in the tropics in Northern Australia and I've never heard of that before. If they do come off it's not going to be like fish scales anyway, it'll be like strips of skin. I've seen snakes with messy sheds before. You're unlikely to get individual scales coming off, even in the worst of them.
