I get the feeling that only pertains to the dog community. Lets face it, their not the crunchiest of treats in the cookie jar (terrible word play), and frankly the cats seem smarter than they and perhaps are more tolerant as well on the inter-species dating deal. Of course, these is just speculation, but so far the only group I've seen be resistive on the matter are the dogs.
Who says that only cats visit the cafe? How could I miss this reply earlier >.<?

So what, now you're gonna assume that they're gay? Rick was right, it is fun listening to these speculations....

Anyway, I'm sure he hasn't answered yet because he plans to reveal it in the near future in a comic. All we can do is wait then....
Who ever said I thought anyone was gay? All I said was that cats might be more tolerant on dog/cat relationships because I assumed that they were more opened minded about it, where actually did I mention anything about gay couples? I'm confused :|

Nah, it's my fault. If I originally wrote the reply like it's now, or if I saw your post later, it wouldn't happen. But who cares anyway >_>?

I won't reply to that, since I want this gay talk to end...... (No, I'm not homophobic).

Also, for you, who shamelessly called Peanut emo:

Seems like gender confusion is becoming a running joke here.

With the cats at the moment. Only exception with the dogs so far was Fox in the earlier strips.

But you know? I'm starting to think this actually reflects pretty much what happens to cats most of the time in real-life now that i think about it. it's so easy to assume their gender by their fur unlike dogs. It's like looking at a white cat. most people from my neighbourhood usually assume it's female.

Judging by the nature of anon

Before I had just imagined Grape's lines being spoken in Dr. Girlfriend's voice. I suppose it works just as well for Mr. Bigglesworth(s).

You can't unhear it, Rick

That is so true, on of the features I always point out about cats it's that their gender is very difficult to know withous some close examination...
Pretty cool that Rick made this also a way to get some laughs outta me

That was more to start different, unrelated train crashes that I could watch and not be directly involved in.

Tell me about it; I could feel the awkwardness through the screen.

How can you tell? The one on the left in the newest comic looked like a female to me, but then it turned out he's male. Everybody thought Grape was male until she said she's a girl...... so yeah, you can never know.

It's actually just as funny if you imagine it only for the one on the left

And then it suddenly follows up with the right cat speaking in a "Chip The Chipmunk" voice.

I literally had to read this page about eight or nine times before I could even start wrapping my head around the implications of this.

I sort of wonder if there's a slight degree of self-parody in the whole gender-confusion thing. Is Rick making fun of the fact that he naturally draws his characters fairly androgynous? Or was that an intentional joke from the beginning?

It's "Heathcliff's"! If I remember correctly, Heathcliff's idea of a fancy dinner was fishbones on a tin plate.

I love to put secret messages about something that already exist. :1

With the flying bubbles of text, is hard to know who's a girl and a boy.

Hey, the white text is MY thing. DON'T YOU BE STEALING IT!

Hmm...I've actually never heard of Heathcliff.

To dispel, it sounds like they are both guys. The one on the left thought the one on the right was a girl, and vise versa.

You see, the one on the right asks the one on the left if he's a girl, and the one of the left doesn't respond, which can only mean that the one on the left is a guy, leading to the awkward silence.

I think, just maybe after all of this, that Grape might think that dogs aren't so bad after all. Or at least not any weirder.
