Every thread has its time. This one has been inactive for months, but as he said, as long as people care to share, this thread will always be here, might not be active all the time. Sorry if this is off topic, just best to explain it here.

Unknown? Would be pretty sad if you do not know your own gender, though dun see much of a point in such an option, seeing as it will stay at one vote. ^^;

I'd like to make a point here, since the guys have been discussing the internet habits of females without any female input.

There are two reasons why girls don't stray far from social networking sites:
1. Most girls aren't into video games or other "nerdy" hobbies. Why would you participate in something that you're not passionate about? There's not many girls that are interested in video games, computers, or the furry fandom. It's nothing personal against any of you guys, but most of you don't like flowers and dresses and unicorns, now do you? Many girls hold accounts for music websites and such like that, though.
2. The standards for privacy are different for females than males. If a girl can't walk around late at night by herself, why is the internet any different? Internet forums are full of people you will most likely never meet in real life, and henceforth there is a different set of "rules" for us. When I first joined this website, I was very, very hesitant about even telling people what state I live in. Sort of a collolary to Rule 29, people; not everyone on the internet is who they say they are, and certain groups need to be extra careful.

Secondly, I am rather offended by the "Girls stick to MyYearbook, Twitter, and Facebook" comment. MyYearbook is often full of people you would NEVER bring home for your parents to meet, and I have never actually met any girl who actually uses a Twitter account as a communication tool. Facebook is a website for both genders, and it is much more open as a communcation tool, and henceforth many people use the site. And for anyone's information, I talk to the HP forumites/spend more time here than than I use my Facebook.

And thank you, Rollofthedice. That statement was very gentlemanly of you. =)

And ooh, a poll.

I actually came into this topic and was legitimately surprised there was no poll.

But I didn't actually care enough to say anything. lol

A poll?! What? Don't want me to count every time I forget. There was somewhere around 92/6 Male/Female

Wrong. :)

Edit: Also, on the only other forum I visit on a regular basis, the majority of people are female. Sooooo yeah.

It was started before I became a moderator and I kind of forgot about it; that's why there's no poll.

X3

Well that defeats the stereotype then! Joining a forum is purely a matter of who you are as to what you're interested in, not because of your gender. And if clusters happen, then they happen.

They're like horses with a spear attached to their heads! Even I, a nonbrony, find this amazing. Totally prefer a my nice pale horse over a unicorn, though. We got history and quite the plans for the future. Just waiting on three of my friends.

I know, this is shocking, but stay calm. I'm a male... I once saw a picture of a unicorn stabbing a little goblin through the chest..

I try, and it turns out Death is a man! Then again, I am of the Horsemen. I do apologize to any female applicants, we were ignorant before. We will begin the hiring process again at the end of humankind, and if any of you would like to apply, feel free! (Some tasteless humor)

I always thought Sleet was a woman, or is that wishful thinking! :lol:

(That was a joke, by the way, the ability to laugh at myself was something I developed too late in life)

I always found it odd why there aren't more women in the furry fandom. What is it about this subculture that attracts men but not women?

Maybe this is part of the reason I like this place so much? No offense or I hope that did not come out wrong, just never had much of a good history with befriending females. ^^;
To keep more on topic, a lot of the people here do act a bit feminine, which is great because that tends to mean they are much more considerate. ^^
There has been 3 people that I have thought were Female for the longest time until they told me otherwise.

I dunno, my logic just tells me that if you do not want to state your gender, than no reason to click one of the options in the first place. ^^; In any case, it will make the percentages a bit less accurate.

It won't change the ratio of male to female at least.

I thought I had posted here, but turns out I didn't. So, I'm male, though it's not like you couldn't have figured that out.

I think part of the "no girls on the internet thing" is a vicious cycle. When a girl shows up someplace on the internet she isn't expected, people immediately act surprised, or at least mention that they weren't expecting girls. Considering most people don't like to feel like they're being observed as an alien, they stay away from places where they think being a girl will make them strange. If I showed up someplace and people first reactions were consistently "Wow, a boy? Here? In this place?", I'd get annoyed and embarrassed and not come back. I'm no sociologist, but that's just my two cents, which can be summarized as "the fact persists partially because the idea persists".
