Re: The 2000 Post Club
I have nothing against the RP at all. They deserve their post count. It reminds me about what someone said when the games forums did not count. It did not deserve it because it was short posts and not thought out speeches like the RP.

heeheehee, my standard is by how much it contributes to an actual community atmosphere as per getting to know people, discuss things, etc.
roleplaying doesn't tend to do that, even the 'thought out speeches' are in-character. unless someone is living through their characters (probably a bad idea), that doesn't really give any insight into who they are, etc.
anyway forum games do that even less and i'm happy with how the forums are set out right now. :P

I always believe post count/rank to be the root of all evil on forums.
It encourages short, less thought-out posts and creates a hierarchy based around a simple number.
I'm sorry, though you may intend this in good fun, I can't help but view it as snobby.
Then again, I suppose post count is there to keep people posting and the forum alive...
Touché.

There is no exclusivity and no actual ranking involved beyond "member, local moderator, global moderator, administrator". I don't see the issue here. Were not stopping you from posting here. Given, I don't see the point of the topic and think it is silly, but I think saying it shouldn't be a topic in the first place is just as silly. :P

Not really sure of what you mean by "a point to myself" Ebly.
I never said any of the stuff below that either o_O.
However, I do believe the post count does have an impact amongst members.
We tend to add more weight to the posts and opinions of those with a higher post count.
This is the case in every forum I've ever participated in.
I am certainly guilty of this whenever I join a forum as a new member.
I don't mean to be disrespectful, just stating my opinion on a matter pertaining to the topic.
Feels like I'm writing a book on it though .

Re: The 2000 Post Club
What I said was more in reference to seeing it as 'snobby' - i can't really think of any reason why it is snobby. If it were snobby it would probably be best removed, too. So yes, all of what I was talking about was me extrapolating from what you said, and not things you directly said. :P
Anyway, I'll say that people do work that way, but it is only until they get to know people more personally. Once that happens, they tend to distinguish on a more case-by-case basis. As an example of what I mean: I doubt you give Jack and Buck the same value in their posts, even though they both have absurdly high post counts.

Come on guys, let's sit at the cool kid table!
One of the problems with this thread is that, basically, we have a moderator saying that people who haven't made an arbitrary number of posts are less valuable to this community than those who have. When you have one mod saying "we're the cool kids 'cause we post more frequently than most people eat," it kind of implies exclusivity.Ebly wrote:There is no exclusivity and no actual ranking involved beyond "member, local moderator, global moderator, administrator". By the standard this thread establishes, Kyderra, Sinder, and myself are just three examples of people who don't contribute to the forums. Even Rick would be excluded if the original post didn't specifcally exempt him.

I just take this thread as a joke like everyone else, it is the post count thread, not a club. I mean look at all the people who post here. Almost none of us are 2000 and yet we post without oppression. So a joke it is......I think.
