The humanoid drone spoke up. "The same way I keep all 20,000,000 cubic miles of this ship from folding in on itself when it accelerates. The same way I keep the passengers from suddenly getting thrown around the ship when it suddenly makes a warp jump."

The robot dragon surfaced. "Unfortunately that technology is so much more advanced than anything in the known universe, so it's difficult to tell what it could be used for. As such it's classified. Now are you going to follow me into the water or not?"

-----------------------

The vixen dropped to the floor. She was completely immobile and the only thing giving away her thoughts was the look of absolute horror in her eyes. Horror as she experienced the waking nightmare brought about by the slightest amount of venom. Horror as she experienced her worst fear, the fear of being her own prey. Horror as in vivid detail she saw herself as the living meat she so often consumed. Horror, as she relived the last moments every living thing she hunted experienced, and though she tried and tried, she couldn't even scream.

The Lycan wobbled in place slightly. Her fear smelled good. It kind of made him hungry. His hunger stimulated the production of more venom, which he spit out onto the ground. He wandered over to the civilian the vixen had knocked out. Why, he wondered, was the floor moving?

He took a bad step and The Lycan went down, an improvised throwing needle sticking out of his hip. Morgan dove to catch him and helped him to his feet. "Randy! Are you alright!"

"JuUuUussSst fiiiiiiiine...@ OoOoHh..." He giggled, acting loopy from the anesthetic. His size and his metabolism were the only reason he was still even remotely standing up straight.

"Hivemind, we are being engaged by an unknown number of hostiles wielding improvised weapons! Randy is down! How soon can you get that ordinance to us?!"

Hivemind responded on her comms. "One express delivery, coming up! ETA Thirty seconds!"

-----------------------

Golta noticed Jaken run behind his target. "Kid! Get out of there!" he yelled as he tried to suppress the assassin by rapidly firing of shots at the cover around him. Pretty soon Jaken was clear, but now Kol was trying to deal with the IED. "What do you see?!" He called out to her as he continued to fire suppression shots at his target.

He only paused a moment when he heard a massive boom from above and a bright flash of light.

-----------------------

meanwhile, two hundred thousand miles (321,869 km) above the surface of the earth, The Beacon of Hope orbited. Three pods, each one ten meters tall (or 33 feet) hung from the Beacon above the Earth. The three pods were released, and they propelled themselves away from the ship. Once they were safely away from the Beacon and moving at a sufficient velocity, three portals opened up, one for each of them. They flew through them and met the earth's atmosphere on the other side.

Up in the sky, far above the resort, three brilliant flashes of light lit up the already sunny sky as the three pods burst into flame on their descent. Each pod activated it's air breaks and thrusters to slow their descent until they were going slow enough that their landing wouldn't cause mass collateral damage. Midair, one of the pods exploded, the pieces disintegrating as they flew apart from each other and the plume of smoke shooting down for a moment before it's buoyancy lifted it back up. It appeared as if nothing was in that pod. The other two pods landed in open areas, or at least relatively open ones seeing as the first one smashed several tables in front of the diner. The second landed in the empty pool Tempest had gotten the water from.

The two pods opened up, the front and sides falling away. Within the pods were two three story tall war droids. The first one, dubbed Warlord, stepped forward. It reached to it's back and pulled out Regicide, a truly colossal twenty foot long warhammer equipped with a singularity core. Space itself seemed to distort in it's wake as Warlord swung it through the air and into it's hands. Warlord itself was heavily armored, being almost two thirds as wide as it was tall simply from it's armor. On it's front was a portrait of a king wielding a warhammer and standing atop a mound of skulls. In the place of it's head was the central core of the iconic hive symbol, with six other sensors surrounding it in a hexagon.

The second one, Lumberjack, climbed out of the deep end of the pool with a single step, pulling it's gun, Sawmill, off of it's back and swinging it around front. Calling Sawmill a minigun would be a horrible understatement. It was more like a rotary cannon with twelve barrels, each one as big around as a typical heavy tank's main gun. Beneath the main part of the gun was a bayonet made of an arc saw (basically an energy chainsaw). Lumberjack itself was not as wide, heavy, or heavily armored as Warlord, but it wasn't short on armor either. It was also considerably more mobile, it's movements seemingly unaffected by the weight of Sawmill.

The two titanic machines announced in unison to the assassins as every civilian left in the area shrieked and ran as far away as possible. "ASSASSINS SURRENDER IMMEDIATELY OR BE ELIMINATED."

"Well, most of it's a big cylinder labeled 'Propane 40lb' there's a brass valve on one end that's been partially broken off and has stuff attached to it. It's hissing." Kol examines the hodge podge improvised igniter before adding. "It looks similar to one of those rectangular communicators all the humans were carrying, but there's no shell, just a munch of metal bits, the colorful glass bit, and this green flat thing with copper lines all over it, hastily combined with a little block with one-two-vee on it, and a bunch of metal strands that are almost touching but not quite. and everything is covered in shiny gray adhesive strips." Kol explains, her complete unfamiliarity with anything more complex than a bicycle wheel once again showing through.

Why couldn't it just be a straight forward binary chemical like back home? Those are easy, you just get the smaller of the two packets wet and it wont work... why does EVERYTHING here involve machines and weird materials?

Nothing makes assassins melt away into crowds faster than overwhelming firepower and, within a minute, the scene was clear of attackers and bystanders alike as Police sirens sounded around the entrance to the park. The only one still remaining was the elderly vixen who was currently trying to fight her own nightmares as Jenny checked on the stunned local in the cafe. "Just knocked out, she announced, running facial recognition on the Vixen whilst she talked. "I understand at least one of the others was an elderly too." She shook her head, knowing Morgan was more interested in Randy than anything else right now. She stepped back over to the vixen and, against the protestations of a clenched jawline, opened the mouth to retrieve the poison tooth. "The age, the specialisations, the improvised weapons... I never thought I'd end up fighting a RED squad." Her wrist computer beeped. "Hannabell Presana," she read. "suspected of being a hitter called Death Vixen. Known for sure to be a Coslympia hunting runner up twice... over forty years ago."

Inside the dome, Jaken heard the talk of lack of air and opened a portal close to the roof that linked to a sky facing portal some fifty feet up. He kept it open but it became clear it was taking a strain after a moment or two. "That is... way hot," he said as he saw the part of a mech through the hole.

As Kolt waited for the bomb outside to be disarmed, his mind starting considering the potential consequences of what just happened. ”So, I’ll admit to not knowing exactly what’s going on, but does this mean the Celicanian government just declared war on the Champions?” He asked the others inside the dome. ”Because they just tried to assassinate Rika just because she’d gotten close with a kid they didn’t like. On my planet, that sorta thing tends to result in the offending party getting practically, sometimes literally, getting nuked from orbit.” He got distracted when Jaken called something he saw through his portal “hot,” and swam over to take a look. He raised an eyebrow when he saw the robots Hivemind had deployed, but he didn’t seem all that shocked by the mechs size. In fact, he almost looked nostalgic. ”Cool. Kinda looks like something this hero back home called Wyvern would make. Odd how two completely different AI would have such similar mech designs.”

"Cool," Jaken repeated, working out where he got the saying wrong.

"Nah," Jenny told Kolt over the comm, "there'll be all sorts of deniability between this lot and the hiring agents." She looked the old vixen in the eye. "Kind that hires you doesn't leave traces easily, do they?" She frowned slightly. "She might be paralysed but she looks REALLY peeved..."

Tatiana just stared at the two droids that rained from the sky, relieved that nothing seemed to really go down, but annoyed that she didn't do anything. She was even more annoyed that the two robots were called down for a handful of assassins and not a giant mech, though she wondered the threat ratio of one giant mech vs an unknown amount of assassins. She, got a little lost to the whole situation, coming in fast with so much going on only for it to suddenly end, so she wandered until she saw Tempest and Jenny standing over one of the assassins.

"So, ya managed to get one? Pretty bad assassins if they didn't even hit anything."

The amphibious dragon led Talya and Kobor down deep through the expansive underwater city until they got to the store where June was browsing the shop with the second amphibious robot dragon. "June and I are inside. Go on ahead. I don't think the shop keeper will appreciate two large robot dragons around his fragile merch."

-------------------

Warlord turned and looked around at the sudden lack of enemies before stowing away it's warhammer. Lumberjack, on the other hand hurried over to the ice dome. It spun up it's cannon. Once it was up to speed, energy bayonets appeared at the end of each barrel. Lumberjack pressed the spinning energy blades against the ice structure, drilling a large hole in it big enough for even Kolt to walk right through without even needing to duck. Once the hole was drilled, Lumberjack turned and approached Kol. "KOL. PLEASE STAND BACK. LET THE GIANT INVULNERABLE METAL MONSTERS HANDLE THE DANGEROUS EXPLOSIVE DEVICE." It's eye cores shifted upward. "THAT PROBABLY COULD HAVE BEEN WORDED BETTER."

Warlord got down on one knee and peered into the cafe where Jenny, Randy, and Morgan were. "RED, HUH? RETIRED MAYBE, BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TOO EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO ME." It's joke would have been apparent, if the magnified robotic voice didn't make it difficult to tell. "YOU ARE RIGHT. THE CELICAN GOVERNMENT CAN EASILY DENY ANY WRONGDOING. WE CANNOT PUNISH THEM WITHOUT PROOF. HOWEVER, THIS DOES WARRANT MOVING OUR TRIP TO CELICA TO TOMORROW IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE." It scanned Morgan and Randy, getting their stats. It noticed Morgan was breathing fast as she held the incapacitated Randy in her arms. Randy on the other hand, had high levels of the anesthetic in his bloodstream, but given his mass and metabolism, it was not dangerous. "DO NOT WORRY, MORGAN. HE WILL BE FINE IN A FEW HOURS. HE JUST NEEDS TO REST. I WOULD ALSO HAVE HIM DRINK PLENTY OF WATER."

Warlord stood up again and walked over to join Lumberjack. It turned to Ulrich. "ULRICH, PLEASE PLACE THAT SHIELD BETWEEN THE BOMB AND KOL."

-------------------

Morgan sniffed and helped Randy to one of the cafe booths. She pulled off her helmet. She looked very concerned, and like she was crying. "How are you feeling, hon?"

The Lycan had his face against the table. "OoOooh... Queeeezyyyy... Tiiiirrrred."

Morgan placed a hand on his shoulder before getting up to get him something to drink. When she got back, she corrected Jenny. "It wasn't her. It was that assassin with the improvised darts. She wasted her shots on me." She said, giving the water to Randy.

-------------------

Golta stepped out of cover when the fighting stopped abruptly. He looked at the giants, jaw hanging open. He knew about the Champions, but had never seen anything remotely like this. What kind of people have the resources to drop high power war mechs in such short notice? He put away his secondary weapon and walked over to the cafe where Jenny was. "Jenny Miles, right? Care to introduce me to our friends here?"

when a giant robot tells you to get away from the thing that could explode any second, you listen.

none too soon either, the screen just lit up with the words 'unknown number calling' and is about to ring...

Lumberjack reached out and scooped up the bomb, tossing it to Warlord. Warlord caught it and trapped it between it's massive gauntlets until a muffled BAMF! indicated the bomb had gone off. Warlord opened it's hands and shook the soot and debris out.

"Of course, sir," Jenny replied, suddenly feeling she was living the 'turn up for work naked' nightmare, "and I apologise for being out of uniform. These are Tempest and Lycan of the Champions. The over the top giant mech was Hivemind. Who needs to remember to turn the vocals down," she added, calling it loudly for Hiveminds' benefit. "In the igloo down there are Doctor Rika and a certain little chap you're probably looking for. Lycan, Tempest, Harden Golta, Celica City lead agent."

Kolt, while surprised by the drill suddenly appearing on the shallow side of the dome, took it in stride and calmly walked out of the giant ice dome. Stepping out of the way of anyone exiting the dome behind him, he looked over the two mechs and gave a slow nod of approval. ”Very nice. Excellent design. Definitely looks like something Wyvern would make. Which reminds me, did you get a chance to talk to her while you were on Concertia for the negotiations? Cause she’s always mentioned wanting to meet another AI like herself, so if you were there, and she didn’t get a chance to talk to you, she’s probably kicking herself in the code right now.” He said, not realizing that Hivemind wasn’t an AI, just a really powerful technopath. ”Also, we DEFINITELY need to get that kid onto the ship. There’s more likely than not still some assassins out there, so he’s going to be in constant danger until we can get him out of their reach.”

Ulrich moved his shield between Kol and the bomb, letting it drop as soon as the mech picked up the bomb. Carefully he stepped out to go join the rest of the crew around behind the ice dome.

Jolty stared in shock at everything that had just happened, and promptly decided the sit down, and tend to his wounds before doing anything stupid. Watching the indescribable madness unfold, he pulled up his sweater, and began to wrap his bullet graze in gauze. After properly attending to his wounds, he stood next to the others, watching. "I passed out for roughly 3 minutes....what did I miss?"

"Ah, good. Delightful. I figured in my travels I would be used to this, and in a way, I am. But...." He gestures to the giant robots. "This? I have never seen 3 giant attacking robots demolishing in cities! That sounds like the plot of a cheesy action movie, or a science fiction fantasy roleplaying session."

When Kolt mentioned getting Jolty onto the ship, Lumberjack agreed. "THAT WOULD LIKELY BE A GOOD IDEA. HOWEVER, KNOWING CELICAN HUNTERS, THEY LIKELY ALREADY HAVE ONE OR TWO ON BOARD. WHILE I AM HERE IN THE WARLORD, LUMBERJACK, AND PREDATOR BODIES, THEY WILL NOT MAKE AN ATTEMPT AGAIN. IT MIGHT BE BEST TO KEEP HIM WITH THE GROUP UNTIL WE LEAVE TOMORROW." Lumberjack turned to Jaken. YOU CAN CALL IT WARLORD. I HAVE A THIRD BODY IN THE AREA CALLED PREDATOR, BUT YOU WOULDN'T HAVE SEEN IT YET."

Kolt seemed confused and more than a bit worried about the possibility of there being assassins on the Beacon. ”Wait, aren’t you supposed to have eyes and ears of every square inch of that ship? How do you not already know where any potential stowaways are?” He shook his head. ”Whatever. Let’s just make sure Jaken always has two of us with him until we leave. On an unrelated note, do you have any idea on how to quickly get rid of that ice dome Tempest made? Because I don’t think the resort is going to like having that thing in one of their pools.”

"Oh, but they're all the way over there," Jenny mock complained. "OK, I don't know the cat but the armoured sleekness is Tatiana, former Bounty Hunter. The Armoured Concertian - almost a Celican - is Kolt, The, uh, human Celican is Rika, our Doctor and the Human monolith is Ulrich. Add Kol - and you need to see Kol to believe her - and a few others and you have an iteration of the Champions."

"I can stay with Miss Rika," Jaken queried before adding, with a little thought, "Or Iron Tail," with a nod toward Kolt.

Ulrich gave a small wave to Jaken, "Hello!
I am sorry I was late to the party, how is everyone doing?"
He asked, surveying everyone else, "Good to see that it was not as bad as it could have been, yes?"

"Hello." she says, waving with one of the arms on her back, as she's using the front two to pick up her staff as she walks over, having dropped it as she rushed to help with, then away from, the bomb earlier.

Legotron123 wrote:Kolt seemed confused and more than a bit worried about the possibility of there being assassins on the Beacon.
Lumberjack made a full bodied gesture that seemed like it was supposed to be a nod. "I DO HAVE EYES AND EARS EVERYWHERE ON THE BEACON. HOWEVER, I CANNOT READ MINDS AND I CANNOT DETECT IMPROVISED EQUIPMENT SUCH AS WHAT WAS USED HERE UNTIL IT HAS BEEN MADE. SHOULD THEY BRING WEAPONS ONTO THE BEACON OF HOPE, I WILL KNOW THEIR EVERY MOVEMENTS."

Warlord walked over to the ice dome in the middle of the pool. It pulled out it's giant hammer. "THE EASY WAY WOULD BE TO ASK TEMPEST TO MELT IT. THE FUN WAY THOUGH..." Once everyone was clear, Warlord lifted the hammer up high and swung it down onto the dome which shattered with a mighty crash into countless pieces. Instead of falling however, the pieces lifted up into the air and hovered there for a moment as the gravitational wake of the hammer passed through it. After a few seconds, the ice came crashing down into the pool. "IS TO DO THAT." Warlord stowed away the weapon.

Once that excitement was over, Lumberjack turned to Jaken, Kolt, and Rika. "I THINK IT'S BEST IF THE WHOLE GROUP STICKS TOGETHER FOR NOW. I ALSO WANT YOU TO REMAIN IN VISUAL RANGE OF AT LEAST ONE OF THE THREE WARRIORS. PREDATOR IS ALMOST HERE, AND IS IN PURSUIT OF ONE OF THE FLEEING ASSASSINS. IN FACT..."

Someone ran out from behind a building like the devil was after him. A mixed look of fury and fear was on the Celican's face as he ran. It was the assassin that had planted the IED next to the ice dome. He seemed to ignore the champions as his attention was on whatever was chasing him. He looked behind him, drawing his pistol, scanning for any signs of his pursuer. He spun and shot at some palm trees when they suddenly buckled for a split second as if some force pushed them. He turned and fired again as he felt a breeze from his right. Pretty soon he was firing haphazardly in the air until suddenly one of his shots hit an unseen something and bounced off with a ping! He readied a second shot and took aim at the same location, but his pistol suddenly threw itself from his hand. He turned to run, but as he took his first steps to cover, he suddenly flew back and seemed to be suspended in midair. He screamed with anger, but it was cut short as he suddenly vanished.

"PREDATOR HAS ACQUIRED A TARGET FOR LATER INTERROGATION." Lumberjack said.

"Easy." the hive dragon stated. It pulled out two cards, one with Talya's name and the other with Kobor's name. "These are your champion cards. They have your ID, your keys, your money, basically everything you need. I have already transferred the five million credit reward for today's actions into your account."

Golta looked up at Kol, as he had to in order to see the giant. He had seen her before, but never this close. His jaw hung open slightly. "Uh... hello." was all he could find himself saying.

His attention was soon pulled from Kol as the assassin ran into view. He pulled his pistol out, but before he could do anything the man seemingly vanished from existence. This, combined with everything else, was way too much. He'd handled crazy and unbelievable before, but this was something else. He walked over to a nearby bench and sat down, a look in his eye saying he was still trying to process what all had just happened.

Kolt watched as the countless tiny pieces of ice quickly melted in the warm water of the pool, oddly fascinated by the physics in action. He looked up just in time to see some invisible being take out another one of the assassins, pulling him into what was likely a hammerspace prison cell. He gave a tiny little “oooo” of entertainment. ”That’s certainly a neat trick. I’m guessing this one isn’t as big as the others, since invisibility only goes so far if your mech is creating craters with every step.” He observed, before turning to look at the other two mechs directly. ”Soooo, what now? I’m not exactly going to be able to enjoy my time off when there’s still more hitmen out there waiting to take another shot at us.”

"Ah!" On hearing that 'it was behind him', Jaken spun around, looking anxiously for any missing assassin about to strike. He breathed again as he reasoned it had something to do with Hivemind possibly having fun and he slipped the gloves off, back into his pockets as Hivemind spoke. "Will have to get used to the moral of the story being given by two hundred and forty gleen (feet) mechanical that can be heard in next city, yeah? Can't ignore the lesson!"

”I’ve been a superhero since I was fifteen years old.” Kolt said like it was no big deal. ”This sorta thing doesn’t really happen often back home. Whenever it does, whenever some nimrod or scumbag gets the idea to go after a rival in their civilian life, they get crushed. It doesn’t matter who they are, it doesn’t matter what side they’re on, if they cross that line, they’re gone. And I’ve done living in fear before, I’ve already told you about Allsight. I was terrible at dealing with it then, and I’m terrible at dealing with it now.”

In the cabin, there were definite signs of life in the old Vixen. Her handpaws curled and uncurled tightly as her entire frame shook with each breath coming in and her lip curled into an undoubted snarl as she used emotion to carry her through the last of the paralysis in something of an outburst that had people looking at her. "Rat-brained, Rabbit-willed, no honour, kitten hunting, loudmouth ********* ***** ****** ****HATS!" she shouted into the air. "Set me to kidnap a kid and don't tell me the ******* CHAMPIONS are guarding him?" She glowered. "I'm going to find someone to pay for this..." She looked around. "Oh, not you, dear," she said in a suddenly pleasant voice to Jenny. "And any telepath in the world will see I would only have wounded your friend out there." She steelped her fingers and allowed a glint from her eye. "I'm not really in this anymore," she claimed, "but this is a special case."

Tatiana shrugged as Jenny took the Vixen over towards Tempest and Lycan, "Improvised or not, you'd think they'd have some sort of plan or at least decent info about the mission." Tatiana turned at the old vixen's yells of apparent anger towards those who hired her, "Bad employers huh? That would do it. You have my sympathy. As an ex merc those types are the worst."

"It sounds like you are playing superhero on your world instead of being a superhero. Maybe it was that way on your world and the surrounding world's, but this seems like it is far more of a job than a fun hobby. Though that is interesting. Did the villains just attack civilians to start a new fight or did they steal something or try to take over the world through less deadly ways?" Ulrich looked at Kolt as the Vixens venom wore off. He turned back to the vixen and listened to her talk about her job gone wrong, "Ah, you are just trying to do a job. I am sorry that you were employed to take someone from us."

"Mmmmfff fffnnnnnn. nnnnnngh..." The Lycan responded to Jenny asking about his health, his face firmly planted on the table muffling his voice.

"He'll get better. That was a concentrated dose of anesthetic." Morgan clarified.

When the vixen broke out of her paralysis, Morgan got up. Fury in her eyes, she shot some water out of her gauntlet, freezing it into a rather large and alarming spike of ice. "Just a job. A special case..." She swung her arm up and stuck the spike in the vixen's face, pointing it at her eye. "A job that got my husband hurt." There was murder in her voice. A calm fury that told she was not messing around. "This makes me angry. I'm going to take it out on someone, so tell me EVERYTHING. Tell me who hired you and who you were with or I'll TAKE OUT YOUR EYES and FEED YOU TO PREDATOR!" She snarled even more viciously than the vixen did.

"Mmmgnn..."

---------------------

"Sounds like you need a new... HEY!" Golta started, but was interrupted when Morgan barged in front of him. When she made her threat and shoved an ice spike in the Vixen's face, he was alarmed and almost drew his gun, but thought that wouldn't be a good idea.

"YOUR EXPERIENCE IS LACKING AND YOUR FEARS SO FAR HAVE BEEN PETTY. YOU HAVE NOT HAD TO STARE DOWN THE THREAT OF DEATH, UNYIELDING, BECAUSE YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE BETWEEN THE ATTACKER AND THE DEATH OF A WORLD. YOU HAVE NOT HAD THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL LIFE BEING IN YOUR HANDS BEFORE. YOUR WORST EXPERIENCE WAS WHEN A SORRY CHILD DECIDED TO USE HIS POWERS TO BE A SCHOOLYARD BULLY, AND WHAT WAS YOUR RESPONSE TO THAT? CHAMPIONS FACE DOWN DEMIGODS, DEMONS, DEATH AND DESTRUCTION ITSELF. WE NEED TO BE BETTER. WE NEED TO BE EXAMPLES. WE NEED TO HANDLE THAT WEIGHT. WE CAN'T JUST MAKE ANYONE WHO CROSSES US 'GONE' OR WE ARE THE GREATEST THREAT TO LIFE THE UNIVERSE WILL HAVE EVER SEEN. IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THAT WEIGHT, THEN WHY DID I HIRE YOU?" It must really be odd to be lectured on morals by a giant war robot with a king standing over skulls painted on it's front.

Ulrich moved a hand and a shield appeared in front of the vixen, though it was small and hovered directly in front of Tempest's ice shiv. He gave Tempest the look of a rather very disappointed parent, "I do not think threatening someone with death is the way to go about this.
Perhaps save it for later."

Morgan shot Ulrich a deadly glare, her breathing heavy and fast. She calmed down fairly quickly though and the ice spike liquefied, the water pulling back into the gauntlet. she walked over to Ulrich, her armored boots audibly stomping against the tile as she went. "I wasn't actually going to do it, Ulrich." She said, too low for the vixen to hear. "Like I'd actually stab an old lady while she's half paralyzed and handcuffed to a chair. We need information, and I need to yell at something and find out who that rotten ****** was that attacked Randy so I can make sure they... don't get away." Her voice was escalating, but she checked her temper and calmed the storm in her mind. Good thing too, as the previously sunny skies temporarily filled with dark swirling storm clouds before clearing again.

She turned back to the old Celican. "Fine then. I'll play nice. All my old questions still stand, and I'll add on another. If you 'don't do this anymore' then what made this case special? Why is a RED team getting involved with this?"

”First off, the rules against going after someone in their civilian life aren’t about “making whoever crosses us ‘gone,’” they’re about preventing an endless cycle of eye for an eye retaliation that only ends when everyone’s dead. Maybe it’s different here, but where I’m from, people like to keep their Cape lives and civilians lives separate, and going after someone while they’re in the latter means they lose whatever emotional protection that separation grants them. Their friends leave them to avoid getting hurt or killed, any romantic relationship they have is dead, and their family either disowns them or spends the rest of their lives worried about being killed by some vengeful rival. All of that combines to make someone in a very bad headspace, with absolutely nothing to lose from going nuts on everyone who’s wronged them.” Kolt said quietly, the fire in his eyes betraying his calm exterior. It seems something Hivemind said rather upset him. ”Second, I’m not sure about other species, but Concertians are very social creatures. We need a healthy social life to properly function. Allsight made it so that nobody on my team had that. Everyone hated each because we couldn’t be sure who was the mole, our friends didn’t want anything to do with us, and for some of us, even our own parents were suspicious of us! Allsight wasn’t just some school yard bully, he was an emotional manipulative scumbag who used every trick he could to turn our lives to ruin, and make it so that he was the only one we trusted!” His voice was rising now, and his tone got angrier the longer he talked. ”And yeah, I haven’t exactly saved the world with nothing but my bare hands and the power of determination. But I’ve stared down death several times, and I’ve lost friends, mentors, and students in the heat of battle more times than I’d care to admit. But I’m not going to let their deaths turn me into a paranoid nutcase who couldn’t relax unless he was the only living thing on the planet!!!!” He yelled, taking a few deep breaths before floating up to stare the mech straight in it’s glowing eye. ”You’re wondering why you hired me? Well now I’m wondering why I joined.” As soon as he finished saying those words, he flew off, heading west towards the harbor. He was going to find some place to cool down before he said something else he’d regret later.

Ulrich lowered his own voice, "I did say "threatening with death." I think it is common knowledge that the Champions do not kill. But, I did not hear anything in the main rules about causing non-fatal bodily harm. And with such a good medic as Rika, it is not like they would die unless they died immediately. No threat is really a good threat if you can not back it up." He took a step back and gave Tempest a small half-smile accompanied by an equally small shrug.

"A small tip, young lady," the old Vixen started, her voice still tense and her eyes wide, "A death threat is never a very good way to begin an interrogation. All I have to say is 'kill me' and the interrogation either ends or the one threatening loses face. We're not a RED squad, although I can understand the mistake. Four retired Hunters on a cruise ship when a hunt comes in. Retrieve a Child and deliver him to Celica. Use your own judgement on collateral." Now she looked serious. "I minimise collateral. Some of these others regard them as plus points. Such as the one got him. The Medicant. Carrus Brakwall." She spat the name. "You should get him," she indicated Randy, "to your Medical types. Doctors. Whatever. There'll be an infection, sure. Easy to spot. Easy to deal with. Run the scans deeper, though, and you'll find the killer infection. A slow burner that won't bloom for several days. By which time he's somewhere else in the galaxy and it's too late. If there was a contract on him, I could legally kill him and the universe would be better off. Oh, as for why this one? About an hour before landing I got the mail including the mission specifics and the payment to be made to my grandcubs accounts along with the details of the branch."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jenny sighed as Kolt made his rather abrupt departure. "Mind if I go get dressed," she asked the room.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"But... But..." Jaken looked astonished at what had just happened. "Heroes are not supposed to argue like that," he yelled, squeezing Rikas' hand.
