I think that it's a testimonial to Rick's storytelling skills that he can get people speculating on an imaginary series of books introduced in his own comic.

What can be included?

Post by Anthroguy101 »

Since the story has yet to be written (yet I do know some of you fans are willing enough to write it), we should discuss what should go into the story. Do the animals in Pridelands walk upright? Do they use weapons, and if so, what weapons? I think it would be interesting to see them carrying firearms and bazookas, simply because of the awesomeness, if that is at all possible.

Also, let's not forget of the hierarchy system: the lions and lionesses, and who leads the lions. If there's one thing you shouldn't forget, it's that Hyenas are the polar opposite of most mammals: females lead males, are more masculine and thus would operate commands. Males, however, are more feminine and are inferior to females. Remember how Shenzi was in control during The Lion King? Look here if you want proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotted_Hyena.

Don't forget that, if any of you are going to dedicate your time to writing a piece of fiction based on a piece of fiction in a piece of fiction and attempt to publish it, give credit to Rick and the Housepets! universe. Not only is that required by law, it's also a way to promote the comic. Just think: MOAR VISITORZ!!

Hey, quick question Cobra. Is there any way to include the species of the characters?

I wouldn't mind, to be honest. i originally abandoned the idea thinking the series was all about lions, but at the current moment if i recall there's about at least three concrete species in the series and one hypothetical: Dragons.

Sure, i'll go ahead and do that tomorrow with my topic update. =3

EDIT: Updated the topic characters, Tribes and events listing. also included the species as was suggested just incase, you never know, the evil Giraffe people and their Zebra cousins will come steal the Pridelands!

I have to admit though, i'm not convinced that EVERY group that's introduced in the series is a Tribe, but for now, i will leave it like that.

It surely sticks out sometimes as a sore thumb towards Lion King. afterall, Lions and Hyenas appear to be the main factors in this story, but moreso human.

But with the talk of prophecies, cults, tribes and the like, the series is more close to a combination of every medievil kind of story as Ebly pointed out such as Lord of the rings, Warcraft, Warhammer and the like. stuff with basically different types of "humans", but each with their own style of living, pretty much.

I reupdated the page to add the Queen. other than the Queen seems to be a important character that Max recommended Grape to play, one thing that i wondered is if the Queen runs her own separate tribe or rules it beside another? Although i'm guessing also that the Queen is more than likely just a attractive wife of another major character, it would be funny to see if roleplaying the queen meant Grape would have her own personal army =P

Gonna bump this. i updated Illaya into the cast page, and figured into the future i add a section for character titles such as Lords, Kings and Queens.

Also, i'm gonna do a major update soon. i'm gonna link the characters, the tribes and the rest of their first appearances into their names for anyone that's either lost or curious.

EDIT: More updates! And just food for thought: i'm wondering if the races now that i think about it act like a descendant bloodline. Lions and Hyenas are normal people, Cheetahs are royalty while the DRagon council, whether there's real dragons or not in it, act like gods of the Pridelands?

EDIT#2: Had to bump this topic. it was way down on the list and feared it being lost.

For some reason, the latest comic gives me the impression that Pridelands is supposed to be a Twilight parody.

Or a parody of YA book series with overly fervent fans in general.

Yeah, I was just about to say that Miss Auburn isn't a character.
But also, The Illuminati is not a tribe or even (so far as we know) in this series at all.
In that strip Grape was stating that she hoped Miss Auburn wouldn't fall victim to the Illuminati problem, but that's talking about the storytelling rather than the actual story. ;)

When i was reading about the Illuminati problem though, i was assuming there was a Illuminati cult though, or something similar. Whether they were talking about a piece of storytelling or not was hard for me to tell the difference =P

I gotta update this soon too though.

Here's a thought. What kind of story is Pridelands? I mentally filed it as "Harry Potter, but for pets" for all these years.

But considering the story sounds darker and grander, I've come to think of it as the pets version of A Song of Ice and Fire.

I tended to picture it more as Lion King only not Disney, Mashed up with Gladiator (the Russel Crowe movie) and on Lord of The Rings scale but few of it's other elements, with bits of a half dozen other things thrown in for flavor.

you know, the kind of mashup you would see over on AO3.

Yeah it's probably "it's own thing", though similar to things we're familiar with. I don't think it's as dark as Song of Fire & Ice as it seems to be a Young Adult book series, going by what we've seen of the target audience.

If the story involved Lions,Hyenas & Cheetahs warring against each other, i would've drawn similarities to Romance of the Three Kingdoms. However, with the inclusion of tribes, syndicates and magic, this throws in some similarities i find with Harry Potter (Mystery and Magic) and Lion King. (Lions vs. Hyenas with Cheetahs thrown into the mix)
