Yes, there was nothing else you could have chosen.
Today is July 30th, and I ask for a person. Here is an unrelated picture:

Well if it's unrelated it kind of makes it impossible to answer your question.

Re: What's today?
It's only so far unrelated that the picture has nothing to do with the person directly and is only a hint to the person or a part of the person or part of the person's life.
Just like this new one is:Here's another hint:
And Hint no 3:

AHA!
Arnold Schwarzenegger, born July 30, 1947, governor of California, played "Hercules" in a movie many years ago and winner of Mr. Universe hence the other space picture.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is correct.Hlaoroo wrote:AHA!

- he was Mr. Universe 1967 (amateur), 1968, 1969, 1970 (pro)
- Hercules in New York was his first movie 1970
- Born in Thal, Austria 1947
- was govenor of California 2003-2011

Would you maybe have a hint for us? We cannot find that supernova / nebula and that you didn't specify the date doesn't help as well.

Re: What's today?
The date will probably give it away. but the year was 1181. and it was a supernova, one of the few ever observable to the human eyeRender wrote:Would you maybe have a hint for us? We cannot find that supernova / nebula and that you didn't specify the date doesn't help as well.

Re: What's today?
Oh, that is much information, I would say too much. I had that supernova on my list, but somehow "its a "First" in astronomy" did tell me that it isn't this one as i thought that there have been observations earlier...
But I say that it's anyhow the observation of SN1181 on August 6th by Chinese and Japanese astronomers in the year 1181.

That's right congratulations, VEB! Your turn again.
Just to explain:
1st picture: 36 US cents have been the lowest amount ever charged for a passage. 1928 Richard Halliburton swam through the canal and had to pay that fee.
2nd picture: The man is Ferdinand de Lesseps, who build the Suez Canal before and has performed the first attempt to build the Panama Canal.
3rd picture: The layout of the canal.

On December 1, 1990, the two teams digging the Channel Tunnel, one from England to France and one from France to England met in the middle with the media watching. They were only off by a couple of inches.
