Guys keep in mind that Anthro Art is VERY controversal and that openly supporting it could get you a couple funny looks. Just be careful with who you talk to about it.

Re: Promoting the comic
That's a bit of an exaggeration. Anthropomorphic art is everywhere. It's only when it screams "INTERNET SUBCULTURE" that it becomes "controversial." Though most would use the lighter term, "weird."

Google trend on the word: "housepets"
I'm also seeing a lot of tweets going out to housepets all the sudden.

Re: Promoting the comic
Is that with or without the exclamation point? It's kind of hard Googling names that are also common words. That also conveniently makes it hard to find posts by someone with a screen name like "Sleet." Technically, "housepets" is not a word, but I'm sure there are still plenty of searches for it by people who don't know that there's supposed to be a space. But if anything, that's a good thing; the fact that this comic can cause a noticeable increase in searches for something that commonplace shows that it's get pretty solid exposure.

Re: Promoting the comic
Plush and Blood is a good comic that has ad banner space!
Appeal some funny t-shirts/novelties to hot topic.
Rally the troops! You have a HUGE following! Tell them to spread the word, either through the forum, or better yet, a joke aimed directly at the reader concealed in a comic!
Starting work on a book is a good one too. I'm sure that if you got Housepets! in a compilation book, or on a comic of the day calendar, views would SKYROCKET!
- EDIT -
I just came up wit a great idea! Why not find an area that is either near your average reader, or in a big place, and have a big scheduled event promoting the comic!
At a mall, usually the Mall of America, everybody who comes gets an HP t-shirt, and at noon, they all go around with the shirts, provoking mass intrigue! That's an easy, common thing that many people do to promote stuff.

Re: Promoting the comic
I'm not sure the dedicated fanbase is quite large enough for a stunt like that. Heck, there aren't even that many people on the forum to begin with. Plus, tons of the members are from Europe.
I would say more merchandise would help, but I'm not sure the comic is quite big enough for that to be lucrative yet. Plus the Housepets! fandom seems a bit timid, no offense. I know I for one wouldn't wear a shirt from here, as much as I'd like to.

Actually, Rick, you should consider an April 1st strip, drawing something for Tymoon and vice versa.

I'm sure it's a coincidence.I noticed in Foxfire Chronicles that Luke has his hair and clothing in the first page change later.

Re: Promoting the comic
I'm going to have to go ahead and say paid advertising (I think it's been suggested earlier in the topic i'm just lazy), especially since it's worked before. That's probably the absolute best method to reach a larger audience, but then again it costs money and money is nice to have and not nice to not have.
i mean jeez, remember the original hordes of twokinds fans?

Re: Promoting the comic
that depends.
Say, if everyone here contributed his/her share via a paypal account... I mean, we're not talking the hundreds and hundreds dollar fee, right?

Re: Promoting the comic
there is one other option.
and that is getting to the frontage of digg.com / redit
that's bassicly how XKCD got known.
this can ether be achieved with a geek joke, or referencing something of digg in your comic.
but even then it's not a sure bet it will get the front page, because a power digg user has to pick it up.
(unless the new version of digg comes out, witch will counter that)

You should do that. I could do my Stencil thing too... (though, everyone would think it was a hardcore band named "Housepets!"...) You could also buy one... lolZander wrote:I could make... one... My mom owns a sign store...
