Re: Useless Information Thread
There are presently only two places on earth that are not claimed by any nation. One is a pretty large area of the Antarctic and the other is an abt. 2000 km² big piece of land between Egypt and Sudan, Bir Tawil.
You can see the claimed borders of both nations on the below picture. If you follow the outline, you'll see that both nations claim the Hala’ib-Triangle as their own territory and Bir Tawil as the territory of the other nation.
Nobody seems to like poor Bir Tawil, it must be the saddest place on (the populated) earth.

It would take 1 year, 7 months, 26 days, 20 hours, 26 minutes and 40 seconds to heat up your coffee via yelling (assuming your coffee cup is a perfect insulator, which it isn't. But, who cares? Most chemistry works with ideal conditions).

I feel like it would make sense to continue that really straight line of borders and let Egypt claim the triangle and let Sudan have Bir Tawil. I'm sure once it's actually a claimed territory folks will go there and try to improve it from whatever squalor of existence it currently keeps.Render wrote:There are presently only two places on earth that are not claimed by any nation. As long as the place seems to offer a total absence of natural resources, however, there really isn't much incentive to develop the land for anyone.

Yup.
We also have not just the top ten but the top ELEVEN most dangerous snakes in the world, in terms of the potency of their venom. Fortunately we have the wisdom not to get bitten too often and the means to treat the bites when they happen.
Have I already mentioned that?
Bagpipes play at 122db which is just 3db under the pain threshold and which is louder than a jack-hammer or a chainsaw.

Yup, but the word perambulator sounds so... Terminator-ish =w= Pram is more kid-friendly.
Ievan Polkka, a folk song popularized by Hatsune Miku and Loituma, is constantly misspelled as Levan Polkka because of how the capital I looks like the lowercase l in most video-hosting sites. And the title means Eva's Polka, apparently.

My favorite star is YV Canis Majoris. A red hyper giant in the constellation Canis Major.
His diameter is approximated around 1500 times the radius of our sun. Placed in the center of our solar system he would exceed Jupiter orbit.
Bigger fish takes an interesting new meaning when it gets to astronomy (and yes, I know they're discovered even bigger stars - SUMMON BIGGER FISH!)

Re: Useless Information Thread
In a survey done by TV Asahi, a Japanese TV network in the year 2005 for the top 100 animes of all time, Tom and Jerry ranked #85, then at #58 for the web version. It is the only non-Japanese animation in the list of 100.
Also, a Japanese OP was actually created for the Tom and Jerry series. Here is the OP, with the lyrics roughly translated as follows:
Tom and Jerry,
Getting along well and fighting,
Tom Tom Tom the meowing cat,
Jerry Jerry Jerry squeak,
The cat bit on the mouse,
The mouse hit back at the cat with a counter-attack,
After all, the mouse is a living thing,
After all, the cat is a living thing.
Tom and Jerry,
Getting along well and fighting,
Tom Tom Tom the meowing cat,
Jerry Jerry Jerry squeak,
At times, the annoyance made them want to cry!
With surges of anger and getting really mad!
After all, the mouse is a living thing,
After all, the cat is a living thing.
Tom and Jerry,
Getting along well and fighting.
.... rather weird lyrics, if you ask me.

Are you thinking of Latin?
"Malum" in Latin means both "evil" and "apple".
I wonder if that was me mentioning it in the Chat Thread that you're thinking of?
