I can't steal from work, even though I have my eye on a few cute little doggies~
I get such great discounts though, I wouldn't dream of stealing. Although, I know one or two former coworkers that have stolen and got fired...

The other 30% is probably how much it actually costs them, no point making it a cost to the business, and they can get some of your pay back too.

Wish we had bonuses like that. Where we're at, we gotta sell to get bonuses, but our customers aren't exactly into buying subscriptions.
Also helps the motivation to sell stuff isn't on the top of my list, though it's fair to say: I really wasn't born to be a salesman. =P

I get free meals at my work. SO that's pretty cool I guess. Sometimes all I eat all day is my meal I eat while on break and my free meal after work. I'd make a college joke here but actually it's just kinda sad : p

Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
I'd join in all your banter about theiving from the workplace, the bonuses and free meals and that, but I have experienced none of these things as I have been somewhat unemployed for the past...uh...how many years is it now since 2006? 8 years now? Holy moley how time flies.
Warning; Rant imminent.
The only paid job I ever had was one I got shortly after ending a year's term studying computer stuffs in college...(Which was a waste of time, by the way, coz it basically taught me stuff I already knew)
It only lasted less than a month from somewhere in the beginning of October and ending somewhere at the beginning of November.
They gave me the boot. The reason they gave me? I was too loud to the customers. The heck kinda reason is that? For starters I'm pretty sure I was talking at normal volumes.
I think the real reason was I was turning 18 at the time, and the manager didn't want to pay national minimum wage for 18 year olds.
Since then all I've had is unpaid work experience and voluntary positions...all the while I'm sending e-mails and letters, handing in my CV (Resumé to you Americans) to stores, filling in application forms for companies that prefer those...
...I very rarely get any form of reply...and even when I do it's an automated e-mail from certain companies that do those to say "we've received your application" and later "We regret to inform you we will not take your application any further"
I have had a handful of interviews over the years...but it's just that...a handful...pretty much all of them resulting in failiure.
The employers just don't want to know. Why? Because they're only interested in hiring the person who's gonna cost them the least amount of money, which is usually some immigrant from some third-world country who views even a simple, single British Pound Sterling coin as a vast wealth of money...or, if not an immigrant, some yokel with rather less-than-mediocre educational grades. In either case they've got themselves an employee very unlikely to ask for a raise or a promotion.
And people wonder why the economy is always on a knife-edge, plummiting into double-dip recesssions at the first sign of financial difficulties.
The Joke Shop (that's my personal term for The Jobcenter) has tried all sorts of schemes with me to get me into work. All of them complete failiures.
Well, maybe not complete failures...pretty recently, one of their schemes very nearly did work...it got me into a sort of induction programme at a pretty big supermarket chain that had a pretty good track record of hiring their inductees after about a couple of weeks.
Period of time passed before I got booted off the programme? Two days. TWO. PIGGING. DAYS.
One of the store's supervisors, who I'm not even sure had anything to do with the induction programme happening, suddenly approached me out of nowhere, took me to the office, and told me I was gone.
The reason he gave me? Well, the reason my ears picked up, anyway, was, in his words, "I've only seen you twice"
Why, on this blue and green marble we call earth, did I just sit there and take it with just a feeble "Okay..."?
Why, in all that is good and foxy, did I not go something like..."I'm sorry, WHAT was your reason for getting rid of me? Get Andy up here. I want to hear what he has to say on the matter."
(Andy being the guy supervising the induction programme the company was doing, and he DEFINITELY saw me doing at least SOME work around the place, and I'm sure the other supervisors I helped more directly will gimmie some shining reccomendations too.)
I just want to scream at all these prospective employers "Look, I can do the work, just give me a proper chance!" I got the experience, a beautiful CV according to various advisors...
I got everything an employer's supposed to look for...but what they're supposed to be looking for and what they actually are looking for is two different things, evidently.

I've heard that See's Candies lets their employees eats as much chocolate and sweets as they want. Pretty smart imo, because they usually get sick of the candies after a month or two and never eat much after that.

Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
To the court Fox! or, Some kind of government agency? I'm just a young kitten, I don't know how to help here... My best regard however. But I'm sure that there ought to be some law that prevents the employers from arbitrarily firing you.

And this is where I'm just going to give a friendly reminder that politics are not an appropriate topic on this forum. So delving into the political side of laws regarding hiring/firing of employees may not be the be smart unless you want a warning. (Discussing the basic laws are fine, but not "I'm sure some person bribed this politician" or the like.)
As for me, I just kinda work for my Dad and Uncle and sometimes get my own customers. It's nice when I get my own.

I hardly think that texascat's post is grounds for a warning or likely to cause controversy but who am I to argue?
In other news, I've recently started going to the gym. It makes me sore but it'll pay off in the end. What are your favourite ways to exercise and your favourite activities at the gym, if to the gym you are wont to go? Training tips are good too. I've been working with a personal trainer which is very helpful but it's nice to get other opinions and hear other viewpoints.

I think Jeff's post was more a preventitive warning, really, to stop this thread plummiting into a heated politics debate...it can be a very touchy subject. Not necessarily. In some cases, warnings are done publicly if the moderator making it feels it'd be advantageous for the community as a whole to know what's not acceptable.
But that's not what's going on here, so no worries.

My guess would be either an insulin pump or an external pacemaker or perhaps a hearing aid or cochlear implant but either way that's Kateleo007's personal medical information so we shouldn't pry or expect an answer to that.
I've never been a particularly strong swimmer and never really enjoyed it that much anyway. I don't mind having a splash around to cool off in the summer but I don't like swimming laps of the pool or anything like that.
I do enjoy hiking though. If you find a nice, steep hill then it can really get your pulse up.

Nah. It's okay. I've got a PICC line or a peripherally insterted central catheter. To spare you guys from a gory google search, it's basically a long term IV that allows medication to be carried almost straight to the heart. Explaining it makes it sound wayyy worse than it actually is.

I'm a pretty okay swimmer I think...though I've never been able to intentionally go underwater.
I haven't been swimming in ages...I've been menaing to take myself, but I always get sidetracked or I forget or something.
Hmm...now that the weather's getting a bit nicer, I really should look up the opening times of my local swimming pool, see when they next have it set up for folks to just have a general swim around.
