Re: Are You A Furry?
I consider myself a furry, though I'd never be able to work up the courage to make that common knowledge (other than places like here, of course). How you guys can jump into a suit and chill in public is past me.
You have my respect.
...I'm a fox, by the way.

I am also curious. How/Where do guys get your fursuits? And how often do you wear it?

There are fursuit makers who can be contacted online or at conventions who can make one for you if you can afford it.

Okay, so my fursona hasn't come into fruition yet, but I do know that he'll be a rabbit.

Not everyone has put the same amount of detail into their fursona. "I'm a rabbit" is still having a fursona, albeit a not-very-detailed one.TinFoilHats wrote:Okay, so my fursona hasn't come into fruition yet, but I do know that he'll be a rabbit.

Kitsune yeh i got my idea for my fs when watchin the lion king... : so there's that, plus i love old cartoons (T&J, LT, Droopy, old Tex Avery) so i'm tryin to figure out how to incorporate all those art styles into my fs, as well as cool colors that are sittin in my head
Re: Are You A Furry?
I haven't really put that much thought as to what I'd look like, much less tried to gt a decent drawing of it, so my profile pic is just my favorite panel/face from the comic.Silly Zealot wrote:The one who says they're a german shepard shows a wolf picture.

Re: Are You A Furry?
I couldn't decide between a fox and a husky... so I went with both! Even though I lacked the cleverness and the cunning of a fox, and the awesomeness of a husky, I'm hoping that being half of both would mean... something.

Re: Are You A Furry?
yeah, but just the way my brother reacted (he said that furries are all about,... *ahem* weird stuff), i'm just afraid to say to anyone that i'm a furry, also i've been made fun of my whole life soooo,
but there may be hope, i just moved, and my neighbor, who i am friends with already, found out and is not making fun of me for it or anything like that; which gives me some faith in humanity. :/

Re: Are You A Furry?
People are generally more tolerant of furries when they realize how completely innocuous (and boring) being a furry actually is.
Also, yes, I dislike that phrase because it's disrespectful and it downplays the actual struggle of the people who are normally referred to as "in the closet."

Re: Are You A Furry?
Want to know how I do what I do?
1) Be genuine and honest in everything you do. Value and take pride in your integrity, meaning you won't do stuff you preach against even when alone where no one may be watching.
2) Furries have a bad reputation because of all the adult themed art and self-absorbing drama that seems to be common in mainstream furry culture. Have no part of it, EVER. It's a distracting sideshow for what can be a really, really fun hobby & fandom!
3) Don't bring up the bad stuff when practicing your furry interests - most people really don't know about it, and they don't have to, for they are now not part of your life. If someone else says "oh, that's a murrsuit and it's probably for sex." you can with HONESTY and clear conscience say "It makes me happy, and is simply a way for me to bring fun and whimsical happiness to kids, parents, and elderly of my community, nothing else." Just so long as what you say is true, the accusation will blow away in the wind.
If you are honest, and can say it with truth, and you feel it in your heart, it will embolden you, for you will have nothing to fear. You'll stand up to scrutiny so long as it's true. Only, you can't dabble in the adult stuff, even in secret for it to work. Secrets like that also come wrapped in shame, and that'll always be in your head, spoiling the joy you could otherwise have experienced.
Then, an amazing thing will magically happen: You'll go out, see people's eyes light up, have that one magic moment where a child falls in love with your character then follows you about the park; then some parent will come up to you and THANK you for coming to the park and setting their child's imagination on fire. Then, you will be "so hooked" on this hobby, so full of compassion that an unrestrained hug from a smiling elderly lady in a wheelchair will make you sob with emotion. After that, you will have no fear.

Why say "FS" instead of just "fursona?"
That would turn out with mass panic and probably quite a few deaths.ShadowLightning wrote:Yeah... Imagine a day where everyone who's a furry turns into their fursona for a whole week. I wonder how that'll turn out...

Re: Are You A Furry?
I agree with Silly. Native English speakers do love acronyms and abbreviations, particularly us Aussies. I like the sound of "fursona" better than "FS" too. I don't think it really matters which you use though since pretty much any furry would understand anyway.Silly Zealot wrote:For once, I agree with Sleet.Sleet wrote:Why say "FS" instead of just "fursona?"

Actually I just don't trust my own or autocorrects spelling of Fursona. The acronyms just make it easier.

I understand, but for those of us who are not that familiar with the acronym, it takes us a while to figure out what it stands for.
In any case, one can always look spelling up in Google. I do it all the time. : D
You know, within the furry fandom, I've witnessed all kind of things that, while technically decent, are so detached from reality that it boggled my mind! Ever seen things like that yourselves?
