Housepets Chinese P.R.C. Translation

Post by Agent Sandwich »

In China P.R.C., people write in Simplified Chinese and read from top to bottom and left to right. Since Chinese is my second language, any correction in grammar and phrasing would be greatly appreciated! Otherwise I am open to any other forms of criticism such as formatting etc.

I intend on doing a few more when I have time!

Yay finally! I commented on another thread also with Chinese translation(no offense , but that one is not very good) and it seems that that thread is pretty much dead :\

Chinese is your second language? Cool, I wasn't sure where you are from(if you're a westerner, that's even more awesome!)
but if needed maybe I can help, Chinese is my first language.

Sincerely,
-Law

You must be from Hong Kong! I can tell by your surname! I'm Chinese (or Taiwanese cough cough) Australian and my ancestors come from Shandong. I grew up in Australia but I am currently an expat in Beijing, studying in an International School which explains why English is my strongest language. Please feel free to comment on my work for further improvement.

Hmm cool, a Taiwanese. But sadly I'm not from Hong Kong and my surname is quite common among Chinese. Keep guessing, hint: my location under my profile.

Heh both Chinese and English aren't even my country main language.

I think it's okay, the translation's fine, only some part if I was to be picky ( in terms of tone and such, but that's a different story entirely, and maybe some typo ), others look good though, keep it up.

You can asked me for help though, I would probably be of good use. :P

Sincerely,
-Law

Alright, it's Malaysia, well maybe not so well known when compared to Singapore and Singapore is not on a continent, it is an island :P

And Malaysia national language is neither Chinese nor English :\
Yeah Malaysia is just above Singapore if you're wondering.
Maybe it is just the fact that there are more Chinese in terms of ratio with its total population in Singapore compared to Malaysia.

Ahaha, if I was in Singapore I would put some other stuff under my location.

So, still working on more strips? :P

Btw, it seems that not much people here reads Chinese >.>, the whole thread consists of only two people talking :\ (except for one earlier) Though I would really like to see some positive results... :c

I'm currently taking Japanese, so I don't understand it (looks weird without any hiragana breaking things up  )
I recognize some of the characters: 花 - flower, 生 - life
But I don't know what they mean in conjunction and can't read it at all :D
Still, it's exciting to see, and Chinese is high on my list of languages to learn, so one day I hope to figure out what's going on there ;)

Typo time~ :P

散布-〉散步
跟中-〉跟踪 (跟着 is in fact a better choice of word)
哪-〉那
座-〉坐 (but sorry I wasn't really sure what "scoot over" means :S and I'm now busy to check it)
相-〉像

Other things like tone and such I think it's all right, but I'll point it out if only I got the time, for now, fix the typo first,
I can understand why you feel this one is harder :P

Hmm whatever, seems like I act like a teacher right now :S no hard feeling eh?

P/S: Hmm next time I might PM it straight away to you. Doesn't want to clog the page...

First, sorry for my poor english. ^^|||

It's nice to see someone translated this comics in to chinese ^^
(though I write traditional chinese)

I like this comics,so sometime I think maybe I could transled some panel in
chinese(traditional chinese)

But I have some problem;
First,I'm so lazy = =
Second,I'm not good at english.this is a big problem,I read housepets for an year, but I still can't understand some panel's meaning in the comics.

I think you may change some small mistake in your sec. translated

1.nitro....I think is meaning nitro-powder.
硝基(Nitro group,NO2)is use in chemical
so i think maybe should translated this word into
火藥味 or 煙硝味

2.scoot over.....after seeing CY_Law's Typo time,I look for the dictionary.
I think this chuk may translated into 坐過去一點

Hey nice to see this thread come alive again(hopefully), hmmm kryote I see that you're from Taiwan huh? :P

Ok so now back to the topic, for me as I translated, I want to keep the original meaning and tone as close as possible.

So, like example, the nitro would be more suitable to be translated into "火藥味", this "nitro" is used not in terms of complicated chemistry, for your information, most nitro compounds (based on nitrogen of course) are explosives, but then if you put in a specific chemical name, it'll lose the original tone of the sentence, then if you simply put in "gunpowder", it would look plain.

I hope you know what I mean. This kind of translation can be hard, but it is necessary if you want to keep the content the same as the original comic.

Ah and yes, I just checked, scoot over can mean "坐過去一點", while not being nit-picking, I would prefer something like "靠去一边" or "靠过去" and such as it still carries the same meaning without losing its "informality", not that "坐過去一點" is wrong (it's right, yes) but then the "一点" might sound "too informal" as suggested in some slang used by Chinese, and some people find it funny.

So I guess I say too much now. :S Hmm now to decide to make it into Traditional? or Modern? (I'll choose modern by the way :P )

No offense though, just my opinion. (I guess I'm some kind of "bridge" between English and Chinese language for this thread now :S)

Yes, I'm taiwanese.
You're right, translated ia a hard things to do.Translated should keep the original meaning and tone as close as possible.

My opinion is, language is still evolution, different country(even location)
have different dialect, and this affect our select words in transcription.

For me ,一點 is a particle usually put at the end of the sentence,so if I don't this at the end of the sentence, I will feel strange.I think in the comic,King is in a bad mood, so I would like to use informal word.

Please look this translated as an joke, if I should translated scoot over formal
and informality,I may say.....略移尊臀(What silly I am....XD)

I learning biology now,but I was learn chinese when I was in my first year of university, look back my old composition, I find out that my write abilite become worst and worst. So I am not sure I can translating this comics very well,my teacher said I usually think things too much, but this is my personality.

If I translated, I would select traditional chinese, that mean, maybe I should open a new topic to put my transcription. The reason is
1.Agent Sandwich still translated this comics in simplified Chinese
2.P.R.C. don't use traditional chinese.
That will make the compose don't fit the topic.(But I am so lazy,I do not know if this things will happen..^^|||)

Hi Kryote! 很高興見到從台灣來的朋友!如果你不會打簡體中文,你可以上http://translate.google.com把你寫的繁體中文轉換成簡體中文。我是出生在臺北市的。可是我後來搬到北京才學會寫中文,所以我不太會寫繁體字!

I'm still stuck on my iPod because my computer screwed up after the upgrade! Looks like I'm gonna have to delay my translation project again! :x

I've decided to translate the first comic that Rick drew like everyone else! I had to change the pun in the 3rd strip because it wouldn't make sense in Chinese!

Translation from the 3rd panel:

Grape: My name is Emperor Qin, one of the most powerful emperors in Chinese history!
Peanut: All hail DEMOCRACY!

Something I don't translation
1.names,a place name...etc
2.some of the word-like sound
3.a pun

用中文表達比較容易.....

關於翻譯的部分,我的習慣是地名、人名不翻,有些狀聲詞可能不翻,
雙關語也可能不翻(或許用註釋的方式來翻...不過我會盡量跳過這些章節....XD)
剩下的...可能要等下禮拜再說了.....這禮拜開始要忙了...= =
