My name's Rico and I'm a furry.

Actually, could I go into the semi-furry subgroup with Brent?

Cool quiz zero. I'm a bit suprised though as my results were higher than expected, but not far from the peer average.

My results were pretty similar to Brent. But some of the questions didn't have answers that were the right choices for me. I just kinda had to pick the closest I could.

Fandom: 59% Lifestyle: 52%. Knowledge: 67%

I'm in the middle-ish zone ^_^ Interesting quiz there zero.

One of the answers on the quiz caught my eye though. It said something about multi fursonas. So... Is it common for people to have multiples? Or is usually frowned upon?

I feel conflicted :?

I wouldn't say I'm that into it (I'd feel uncomfortable at conventions unless I knew people there) and yet I got the highest score here so far.

I'm going to stick to my self proclamation of semi-furry or furry-lite.

A quick Google search shows that squamous is basically a cancer cell (skin to be exact), and rugose is an extinct coral.

Squamous means "scaly". Squamous cells are the penultimate layer of your skin cells, the ones that produce the layer of dead cells that protect your skin from drying out. They're called "squamous" because under a microscope they look like little scales. Because they grow rapidly to keep your skin from wearing away they are prone to cancer.

Rugose means "wrinkled". Brain corals, hairless cats, and cane toads are rugose.

The other literary HP, H. P. Lovecraft, was fond of purple prose and obscure adjectives. Sesquipedalian modifiers like "squamous", "rugose", "ichorous", and "crepuscular" flew trippingly from his haunted pen, and while I am not sure that he simultaneously described any specific macabre denizen as both "squamous" and "rugose", this combination of words has become synonymous with Lovecraftian parody, such as this delightful example from the wonderful "Making Light" blog: http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/ar ... 09290.html

I will add that I do host an animal under my roof that is, in fact, simultaneously squamous and rugose. She is also carnivous and unfortunately bad tempered so must be handled with care.

Sleet, as you were the one who made the test it would be unfair to ask what scores you received. However, if you were to fairly award yourself scores for Fandom, Lifestyle and Knowledge, what would you give yourself?

Never thought about the difference about a fursona and a avatar. I made the fursona with the intention that i do have some creativity and i just really like cats. I would feel like i'm shaming my mother if i thought, otherwise. =P

You might want to get that looked at, it sounds painful :D

One interesting thing that I've noticed over the life of this thread is that people's perceptions of what 'furry' is, differs greatly. The media (e.g. that episode of CSI as already referenced somewhere here) seems to focus on the non-PG side of things. I'm sure being 'furry' goes deeper and I would consider most anthropomorphic comics 'furry', although I know others do not.

It's a shame that many places frown upon fur suits. Even wearing a mascot outfit is seen as weird here. I'm however still a bit confused about the whole fursona and avatar difference!

Sadly the media will always focus more on the non PG side of any culture/ taboo. Simple Ignorance.

Unfortunately you're right Tatsuo. At the time the CSI episode was first aired I was ignorant enought myself to believe that being a furry was purely lust, driven by carnal desires. It wasn't until a year or two after, that I saw the true friendlier fluffier side :D .

I'm not just picking on CSI, I was just really into the series at the time.

No problem Mr, Mod.

Well here in the states, at least in Oregon, football team mascots are highly rated. Each mascot has their own character and that's kinda how a fursona is to my understanding.

"Fursona refers to the character most Furries typically create to represent themselves.
Some Furries have multiple furrsonas, though many stick with just the one or a single primary one.
The fursona is typically made to represent what the person considers best about themselves, what they wish to be or as an alternative expression of what they consider their core self. There are of coarse other reasons but these tend to be the most common."
- Taken from a yahoo answer by Lost Cause.

Edit: a fursona can have multiple animals also.

I've used the character of Argent since about 1983, but I don't like cutesy neologisms like "fursona".
