I saw it Saturday. Overall, I liked it, but there were some story points that I thought were a little flimsy. I didn't really buy the whole PTSD angle. Tony Stark is a pathologically cool headed character.

Also, a kid from Tennessee with no accent? Come on! And those beauty contest contestants? There are no women that good looking in Tennessee! I should know, I live next door to those fiends.

I was also hoping that the Mandarin would be like the comic character, with the power rings and all. It was knid of a bummer, but it was a twist that I didn't see coming.

Pathological is right.

And after what he went through in Iron Man 1?

Let's not forget that, along with nearly dying before the Hulk's roar shocked him back to life, Stark also flew through the same kind of portal Loki fell through in the Thor movie. And we all know how badly that affected him. And Tony's just a human.

I just thought iron Man 3 was a terrible movie. There was nothing making it stand out. The story was bland, beside from giving me the off chuckle. Even the PTSD didn't help me think of him as more human. The story's moral wasn't even followed through in the movie. The action scenes were all meh at best, or utterly plot breaking at worst.

There was really no redeeming factor for the movie. I personally didn't even like the soundtrack. Honestly, the movie is just barely worth the money in my opinion.

This all being said, I've never watched another Iron Man movie although I can compare it to Thor and the Avenger. Nowhere near as good as either, in my opinion. I'll need to watch them both again to show some points as to why I think that, but I actually went out of both those movies and enjoyed them.

Okay, question. Why did you go see Iron Man 3 if you haven't seen the first two in his series? How does that make sense skipping over the first two parts of a character's development?

Well for me it was mostly the fact my friends wanted to go see it, convinced me to go, and then all dropped out. I still went to see it just because I was determined to do something that night anyway, and it was really the only movie playing that I would be willing to pay to see in the theater.

Agreed with Penwrite here, that's like watching part 2 of Titanic that has all the action and not watching the first part that has the plot and character build up in it.
How about Ted or the inbetweeners movie? Higher age rating than other things but "mainstream" isn't my specialty area to be honest, other films like "So I married an axe murderer" are good.

This is just over 30 minutes long, but is so much better than TMNT, even if set in the same universe. This is kinda a mix between 'Kick-***' and the Dark Knight trilogy. There's a bit of blood in it, no swearing, and some off-screen violence even the Hays code probably wouldn't allow. Definitely worth the watch though. It get's a bit weak at a few points, but just the character of Casey Jones is enough to keep you watching. (Also, the best live action April O'Neil ever.)

That would be the third Sidney Lumet movie I've seen (12 Angry Men, and Network being the other two), all three are in my top 10 favorites.

Finally got around to watching "The Innkeepers"... That movie is so freaking scary! I made the mistake of watching it alone! I highly recommend it!

And I watched "Outpost: Black Sun", also scary and very exciting. A very worthy sequel to "Outpost".

And I want to go see "Star Trek: Into Darkness" this weekend. Anyone else?

If a sequel can't stand up on it's own, it's not a good sequel (There are some exceptions to this, admittedly. Back to the Future 2 being the one worth mentioning since it's literally a retelling of the first movie but from a different perspective). You can watch Dark Knight without watching Batman Begins and enjoy it, without having to know Bruce Wayne's character development or anything. Sure, it'd probably enhance the experience, but that doesn't mean it's necessary. Comic book movies normally have plots that everybody knows anyway. I mean, c'mon, was anybody surprised when Bane broke Batman's back? I know I'm mentioning Batman a lot here, but honestly, if you want an example of a comic book movie series done right, it's the go to those films. If not Nolan's trilogy, look at Burton's pair of films. all of the movies are amazing. Heck, in Batman Returns, you don't need to know a single thing about 'Batman' (the earlier film) and you can enjoy the movie just as easily.

Besides, if anything, I'd say you only need to watch the Avengers to understand why Stark is having Panic attacks. I mean, that's where they kept pulling stock footage from.

Also, Kyuubi, a film does well is a film that has a good narrative (Hollywood normally goes for the 5 part narrative). They do it because it's a tried and tested formula that's worked since Greek times. Sequels from Hollywood normally always have a 5 arc narrative as well, of course, with some exceptions (Kill Bill popping into mind). Iron Man 3 followed the 5 part narrative (big surprise).

I saw "Star Trek: Into Darkness" on Friday and it was really good. Lack of internet lately has kept me out of the loop with movie news and fandom stuff, so I guess it comes as no surprise to anyone that Benedict Cumberbatch's character is really Khan.

I finally got caught up on my backlog of movies that I needed to watch. I saw:
"The Last Circus"
"Rubber"
"Kill List"

and "A Serbian Film"...

I hereby FORBID any of you from watching "A Serbian Film"! It rivals movies like "Cannibal Holocaust" and "I Spit On Your Grave" for sheer perversity.

So, Star Trek Into Darkness...

...oy.

Not only is "to Star Trek" apparently an accepted verb now, but the characters have degenerated into cardboard cutouts with action figure speech chips that let's 'em spout their franchise catchphrases if you push a button and generic Hollyweird psychopathic heroes-in-name-only. The nuanced narratives and philosophical themes of Old Trek have been ousted by the loud splosions, flashy lightshow and violence pornography of New Trek™. Oh, and characters randomly undressing to the underwear.

To give you a taste on just how gobsmackingly stupid this flick is at the end "Kirk" has enter the warp core to fix it in the culmination of the film's botched rehash of Wrath Of Khan's plot. See, switching Kirk with Spock is totally unexpected and therefore a big whoppin' twist and oh forget it. Anyway, Kirk bites it (after "fixing" the thingamajig by kicking it... WOK, by contrast, showed Spock doing stuff that genuinely looked like repairs) but don't worry, turns out Khan's blood is magic and can resurrect him. Because genes. This, of course, prompts Spo- no, not Spock, Elf Ear Sylar to chase him and punch him and chase him and punch him again. Thing is, however, they got 72 supermen from the Botany Bay cryostored onboard the Enterprise. You see, an evil admiral wanted to attack the Klingons 'cause he's evil and he defrosted Khan to somehow design a superduper-warship but he fled and Admiral McVillain gave the Enterprise photon torpedoes with the BB crew hidden in them as leverage and Jesus Christ that's dumb! Anyway, all they had to do was thaw the supermen and draw some blood. But noooo, we had to have another perfunctory fighting scene! By the way, Elf Ear Sylar has to phone Actual Spock to let the audience know that, yessir, the bland, whitewashed secondary (remember, Admiral Snidely Whiplash is bad guy numero uno here) baddie of the film really is the legendary Khan, no kidding.

Ugh. Please do me a favor and don't support Hollywood's race to the bottom. Don't watch this travesty, you're not missing anything.

I couldn't agree with you less, and I'll try to be polite about it. I found the themes of vengeance being wrong to be quite in line with traditional Star Trek. It asks the question of what Starfleet's role should be, how far we should be willing to go to get revenge, if attacking an enemy first when war seems inevitable anyway is really right or moral. After the destruction of Vulcan, the Federation was scared and grew more militarized as a result. My favorite line in the entire movie is when Scotty's pleading with Kirk not to bring the torpedoes on board the Enterprise.

"I thought we were supposed to be explorers!"

Last 20 minutes or so aside, I'd actually compare this new movie more to The Undiscovered Country than Wrath of Khan. But yeah, those last 20ish minutes sucked.

Yep, vengeance sure is wrong, that's why they exact it for almost the entire duration of the film (besides a token intervention by Not-Uhura at the end). :P

This review deconstructs the flick's failings quite nicely.

I found a documentary on youtube I have not seen in a long time!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckBD4hip730

"Ed Wood: A Look Back In Angora"!

This is a documentary about the life and career of Edward D. Wood Jr. Many of you already know who he is. I have a soft spot in my heart for Wood and his terrible yet infinitely entertaining films. I saw this on VHS when I was a kid. I don't think that it has ever been release in DVD format.

Also, some of my favorite killer bug movies are finally getting released on DVD. "Ticks" and "The Nest"!

Tough choice.. no, no idea. It's either Frankenstein or Son of Frankenstein, both great movies.
I didn't care much for the other films with Lon Chaney Jr. playing The Monster, Karloff is the only Monster.

After you finish with the Universal films you must continue on with the Hammer films. Peter Cushing makes a great Dr. Frankenstein!

Has anyone else seen Lords Of Salem yet? Because I went and saw it with my dad and it blew my mind and genuinely disturbed me and was just plain awesome!

I finally bought a copy of Cannibal holocaust and re-watcjed it. I highly recommend it for those of you with strong stomachs its kinda rough but its worth it.

Oh and my sister rented warm bodies on demand. I only saw like half of it but it was a lot better than I expected. I'll have to rewatch it some day and form a more complete opinion.
