What makes you think they didn't? Evolution has to be WAY different in the HP!verse, but I can see cro magnon being forced out of Africa during the lion-hyena wars, and returning with advanced spear and arrow technology to fight their way back. And then starts the arms race, it's not like humans had a monopoly on the opposable thumb...

I just imagine Rick decided to transfer over humans' attitudes toward real animals directly to the HP! world. Both the positive ones and the negative ones. Since this is something real people sometimes do to real puppies, it logically follows that people would do that in the Housepets! world.

I'm not a cynic, but I'm perfectly aware many other people are. The breadth and depth of good and evil among humans is vast. Given the ancient classical form of birth control (leave the (human) baby in a ditch somewhere), lots of people will become complacent with all sorts of evil, even if "we" "understand" "better". If the society sees someone/something burdensome as a non-entity (or "inherently bad"), they will go to great lengths to justify making their own lives better by removing said burden.

Which is the mortal view, not the heavenly view. Again, I'm not a cynic.

They obviously don't take this nearly seriously enough, if they don't appreciate Fridge Horror.

Yeh, Rick, I know it used to be common, historically (and allegedly still happens in China), it just seems particularly awful when it's happening in a rich, free civilization like the pseudo-USA of the HP!verse instead of the primitive feudal "Hobbesian" nightmare of Oedipus Rex.

Just watch the evening news, or read a newspaper or history book. Since pets don't have the same rights as humans, they probably get it worse since the repercussions are likely to be less severe.

But I don't want to get too dark and nihilistic. Such actions, more so in the Housepets universe, are the exception and not the rule. For each creep that throws a puppy off a bridge, there are likely 400,000 Sandwich families that love their pets.

He does look like Spot. o_O
The patterns are all the same including the tail. Although the puppy has a slightly 'bluer' fur, but it might be due to the lighting.

And that makes this a little bit mind-blowing:
Johnnaman wrote:The Puppy then decided to invade the mind of a well known dog and now lives his new life inside his brain as Spot (Super Dog).
Could this be something like the origin story of Spot? :o

I don't think it will be frowned upon for the puppy to eat the whole thing. Since it was given to him, it almost should be expected for him to enjoy all of it. (Also, bear in mind that I'm not saying how long the puppy has to finish it or even that he has to finish it all in one sitting. I am also not implying any gorging or binging, and I am not implying torture from forced eating.)

Since sin cannot be done in Heaven, it would be natural to think that what is given should be enjoyed, and also that the Receiver should be capable of handling the Giver's gifts. (And the memories thereof...hint hint)

To Rick, or whoever made the link: Thank you for creating the link to the comment thread directly from the comic. It is appreciated.

Also, is Bahamut the name of the dragon judge from Pete's trial? I noticed the tag and the corresponding yellow background around the text.

On a separate note from my first comment, this scene reminds me of Bleach, the Anime. The riverside near the bridge is a common scene they use, and these panels were about 'reaping' the soul of the dead to bring them to a 'heaven' of sorts.
