 Computer Specs and Builds
Post you're sweet computer specs, make everyone jealous on how much better your computer is. Feel free to ask questions on your custom builds, us super geeks are here to help (and make fun of you, but just a bit)!
Monitor: 21" Acer Case: CoolerMaster Power supply: 700W Graphics: 2x Nvidia 9800 GT RAM: 4GB at 800MHz CPU: Q6660 quad core 2.4 GHz per core Motherboard: MicroStar (crud mobo, as a holdover) Mouse: G5 Keyboard: G15
Planned Upgrades: Need to get a new motherboard sometime this week. I also need to get a new power supply soon since this one's cables are too fat and take up too much space. Possibly some RAM depending on what motherboard I buy. I might also get a second monitor.

 Re: Computer Specs and Builds
Pentium 4. On board sound whatever. Ages old ATI card that gets unplugged sometimes. Not enough ram to shake a stick at. Cooled by the onboard fan and my waving hand. A rollerball mouse Keyboard that has keys that stick power comes from hamster wheels
And yet it can play every valve game to date

 Re: Computer Specs and Builds
Did I mention that mine is dead silent? Yes, has a massive heat-pipe heatsink with an even larger fan. Even when under stress, the heatsink remains only warm to the touch, while the fan spins so slow its hardly audiable.(as i recall) I plan on upgrading the RAM to 6GB, upgrading the processor to a core 2 duo or quad, the HDD to 1TB and installing windows 7 x64.

 Re: Computer Specs and Builds
Monitor: I dual screen a 22" Hanns-G and some random 17" Polaroid thing I don't even know what it is. Case: NZXT Tempest Power Supply: 750W Graphics: 2x GeForce GTX 260 RAM: 6GB running at 1600MHz (they're overclocked) CPU: Quad core, Intel Core-i7 920, 2.66GHz Motherboard: eVGA X58 sli Mouse: Logitech MX Air Keyboard: Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000 CPU Fan: Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 Storage: 2x Western Digital 640Gb, 7200RPM Optical Drive: Some general Samsung thing.
As an aside, my case came with 5 fans built in, and it all runs really quiet which I find surprising. I plan to eventually buy two 2 TB hard drives to add to the space I have now. I also want to get a Lite-On Blu-ray optical drive.

Laptop, Dell Inspiron 1501, runs with Windows XP, 446 MB of RAM, 2.0 GHz processor, 52.3 GB of HDD memory, (with 17.4 GB of free space left) almost 4 years old now. I want a new computer.

 Re: Computer Specs and Builds
I'm going to revive a dead topic because we have enough new people for it to gain momentum again. In October of 2010, I got a new laptop. It's an HP Pavilion dv6t series. 6 GB of of DDR3 RAM i5 Intel core (the first generation, I bought it when the i cores were almost brand new) 7500 RPM 640 GB of HDD Windows 7 ~2.7 GHz processor with overclocking abilities Integrated graphics card NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-Integrated webcam with mic 15.6" screen Here have a picture. My laptop also have one of those bogus fingerprint readers integrated into it. It definitely works, but it's not at all difficult to hack into this piece of software that is basically a database of all your passwords. Soooo... I don't use it.

 Re: Computer Specs and Builds
Now here's something in my area of interest. I custom built mine around a year ago.
• Intel Core i7 - 2600k @ 3.60GHz (overclocked) • 8 GB DDR3 RAM • 120GB Intel SSD & 500GB Hard Drive • 2x GTX 460 1GB (SLI) • Windows 8 Professional • Three 22" Monitors - NVIDIA Surround (6060x1080 Resolution) • Antec DF-85 Full Tower Case - 8 fans (3 front, 2 top, 2 back, 1 side)
Overall, it works extremely well.

 Re: Computer Specs and Builds
Esquire, I'd like to hear about the building experience some time. You know what kind of computer courses that are available to me in high school, verses how many actually teach something that is a bit too difficult to figure out independently (the two programming courses). I have more general knowledge about computers than the average user, but it's not extensive, simply because I've never had the opportunity open to me to really go in-depth with the learning process. If you would ever like to give me a Computer Hardware and Software 101 lesson so I won't be thrown to the wolves next year, I would really, really appreciate it. Obviously if I chose computer engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science as a triple major in 4.5 years (it's possible and not difficult at State!), I have to have some desire to learn the material.

 Re: Computer Specs and Builds
Correction: My laptop's processor speed runs at 2.5 GHz normally. I don't remember what it overclocks to.
My laptop automatically overclocked one time, I think about one or two months into ownership. I believe I was synchronizing my iPod to my new computer (yeah, that's only a 6,000 song collection with about four movies and 3,000 photos) while installing some newer programs in the background and indexing my hard drive. Or something like that. I remember my computer pinged and the screen brightness turned all the way up. That was interesting to watch in Task Manager.

 Re: Computer Specs and Builds
I'm not the best technical mind but I found a PC tower that I liked a few years back and it's worked like a charm!
Hewlett-Packard HPE-510y AMD Phenom(tm) X6 1055T Processor 2.80GHz 8GB RAM 64-bit operating system 1.5 TB hard drive Windows 7 Home Premium Microsoft Office 2010 Webroot Security IE9 and Mozilla FireFox
Well it's not exactly a space ship but it does what I need it to do, plus its not bad for playing PC games either! -This list is subject to change since I've probably not listed everything or gotten every specification exact.-

 Re: Computer Specs and Builds
If you hit the "Windows" key and the "r" key at the same time, it will bring up the Run command. Type "dxdiag" (without quotations, obviously) in the Run command and hit Enter. Let it check your digitally signed drivers, and it will give you some information about your system. You probably already knew that though, unless you did a darn good job at memorizing your processor information. X.X
