And apparently Shining Armor is going to be a significant part of the cast now?

My guess is he'll be as significant as Luna, who shows up once in a while.

Which totally sucks. Luna is awesome, and so are Cadence and Shining.

I can't quite put my finger on why, but I've got a really good feeling about King Sombra as a villain.

Edit: Also, the more I work on this fic for the EqD Halloween contest, the more it feels like The Thing. :?

Whats the first clue? That the name is clearly playing of the word Somber?

1 Dark or dull in color or tone; gloomy.
2 Oppressively solemn or sober in mood; grave: "a somber expression".

Those are all good indications, yes. Of the past three big bads we've had, I wonder which he'll be most similar to?

Also, the name could be somewhat misleading because he might not necessarily be a "villain". MLP antagonist fall into two categories: Super dangerous or jerks.

Example: Nightmare Moon and Queen Chrysalis wanted to conquer Equestria and enslave its inhabitants.

As opposed to: Gilda being a jerk.

Maybe Somber is a jerk who somehow got put in charge.

Eh, maybe. Also, Discord has the proud distinction of being both a jerk AND super dangerous and evil!

Edit: I had an awesome idea for King Sombra's voice. The Goth Punk singer Voltaire. Not familiar with him? Well, he did this awesome little song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujzp9ffPwPM (warning, dark themes)

I think a voice like that would fit what we've seen of the character's design.

I love that song...

Yes, I can see a voice similar to that being amazing if his name being as close to somber is any indication of his personality, although I do see things being not quite so simple. I see it as a possibility that he's not going to be anything like his name implies with it's similarity to the word somber, and that keeps things interesting. I don't know what to expect with this show, especially after the season two finale.

How dark the first part was caught me by surprise.

I guess it doesn't matter, that it a great idea for a fic. I could totally see Cheerilee going and actually winning a bunch of matches because of some random CMC junk that goes on.

If you do that, it just becomes Here Comes the Boom (which was a fantastic movie, by the way).

Either way, I'd love to see that story written.

I would give it a shot if I could come up with enough to write.

I just don't know how long it would take for me to do that. If I did write it, I would stop my fic here until I was done. I already spend enough time writing for two stories here, I'm not sure if I could handle a third elsewhere.

I read the synopsis on wikipedia. And, I thought Discord was bad, but six of them?

Also, an epic fan animation.

Yay. A new story. *Puts on iTunes and starts reading*

I'll tell you what I thought when I'm done.

EDIT:
Oh.
My.
Gosh.

Just what I would expect from you. Dark. Surprising. Just... Wow.

At first I though that Twilight was the changeling, but then I just thought that there could be no way seeing how she acted.

And that ending, how you never told how the changelings knew the answers to the questions, who was and who wasn't (Other than Twilight and Doctor Copper) a changeling.

You are, and will forever be one of the best writers I have ever read. Not only do you have great story lines and ideas, but you write them well too. There is no way this won't do good.

Really though, thanks. Thanks so much. It means a lot that you enjoyed it so much. I had actually thought for a while that the due date for the contest was later than it was, so I kinda had to rush on the last third or so of the story. ^^;

I'm not heavy in horror genre, but I read it so I can give you my opinion. Although, I'm picky, so my rating might be a bit harsh. I'll even be honest, there's not a whole lot that's ever impressed me.

Length: Well, you had a limit, so I can't be really judge it on that.

Pacing: With a limit, chances are that it's going to be faced paced, so I can't be too judging there. If your wordcount was below 8.25K though, another day in there wouldn't have hurt.

Creativity: Changelings are one of the most frightening things in MLP, in my honest opinion. The way in which the changeling undisguised itself and the exaggerations on their appearance were a nice touch, it could have done without the claws, though. You managed to clue me in at about halfway through the story that Twilight was a changeling. Well done, considering I usually see how something's going to end(not in detail though) if I have more that half the facts up front.

Detail: It was nice to see that you were actually thinking about things, where I found that several things were done in fine detail. Commendable. I believe the word limit actually stopped you from going into more detail, when I look at how there were things had great detail, where others had miniscule detailing.

I was honestly expecting a description saying that Pinkie had a flat mane while Sugarcube Corner was burning down, but then again, she didn't have a flat mane when Pound and Pumpkin were being hoof-fulls. The ending wasn't what I was expecting at first, but It's refreshing to run into that.

Addictiveness: It will keep you reading to figure out how it ends, and that's all that it needs.

Feeling: It's not the most terrifying thing I've ever read, but it's about ponies, and I'd think it'd be pretty hard to match up against full-length novels about psychos. For only have 2,500-10,000 words to work with, though, it's pretty good as a horror story.

I give you 3.5 stars as an overall. Honestly though, I've been told I don't like anything, by everyone in my family even, so it could be great.
Love me right now! Done.

Thanks, Leaf. Yeah, I did kind of have to rush the last third or so of the story, on account of getting the contest's due date wrong. ^^; Glad I still managed something halfway-decent, hehe.

Also, you would expect there to be a ton of changeling-related horror fics, but I couldn't really find any. *shrug*

Also also, a main influence for me was John Carpenter's "The Thing", to anyone interested in that kind of stuff. Hence the snowy backdrop, gruesome transformation scenes, and emphasis on burning the changelings. :P

Oh, I am definitely going to read it when I get the time. Sorry I have not yet, Penwrite. I am not being a good friend. I guess the changelings add that sense of paranoia like the thing did.
