Re: Scratch's Fan Comics
I have two pictures of the brothers colored, well one and a half. I was going to wait until I finished both and post them at the same time but I have no idea when I will be able to finish the other one. So for now I give you the Mysterious Strangers part 1
A quick updated bio for this one.
"???"
this ones the polite, refined one; always willing to listen to reason. Can keep a cool head even when his blood's boiling, he has to; his brother sure as heck doesn't. Although his brother seems to always to get a rise out of him. He tries to always be polite, even when every part of his being tells him to speak his mind; sarcasm is one of his closest, and oldest, friends. he believes the rules should be followed; but sometimes he just can't help himself, or his brother manages to convince him otherwise. His charisma has gotten him and his brother out of many..."misunderstandings" in the past.
Sorry about the blurry quality but as you might all be able to see I used a demo version of ArtRage to color this; and so I could only save a low resolution copy. I'll probably buy the full version when I can finally scrounge up $30(yeah I'm poor, SO WHAT? YOU DON'T KNOW ME!... I'm sorry I yelled. )
oh, and I doodled this in my sketch book and was rather pleased with it because for a while now I have been trying to make Pete look "cute" while still being intimidating and I think I did it with this one. I know Pete in the comic doesn't have the long hair but I think he looks cool with that kind of hair, or Plumage, whatever, YOU DON'T KNOW ME!!!-sorry, sorry Stressful week

You want to make a cute character intimidating? Add a scar. Scars ALWAYS do the trick.

Teehee floating Pete head reminds me of the YHMH battle in the Shin Megami series or the Andross battle in the Star Fox series

I know, right? it so simple! lolcopper wrote:You want to make a cute character intimidating? Add a scar. Scars ALWAYS do the trick.
the first thing was all jibble jabble to me. but StarFox! I know what you're talkin' 'bout there! that is still one of my favorite boss battles.(You're talking about starfox 64 right?)justacritic wrote:Teehee floating Pete head reminds me of the YHMH battle in the Shin Megami series or the Andross battle in the Star Fox series
so close! I actually, and I'm not making this up, Based their stun rods off of the video game Jurassic Park on the Sega Genesis. In the game you can never see the back half of the rod but you could see the two prongs and that just kinda stuck in my mind.texascat018 wrote:remember this from jurassic park?
looks similar XP
but anyway after scrounging around and acquiring the $30 dollars that I needed, I bought ArtRage, sat down in front of my computer, and for about half of today I colored my original avatar picture. I was going to post when it became relevant to my story; but I'm so excited that I can't wait. so I guess in somewhat "contrived" relevance to the actual comic; this is the brothers "Temple Crashing" attire.
I know I'm not the best painter, but I do say I'm gettin' better!
ps: I swear next time will be a legitimate update. I just haven't been able to draw the comic lately; one friggin' panel I just can't get right.

Re: Scratch's Fan Comics
get ready this one is heavy with words! (sorry, if you have trouble reading it I will gladly provide assistance)
I know it's not in color, BUT DON'T WORRY! I will start coloring these when I reach a certain point in the story; which is pretty soon so a few more non-colored strips and then BAM "Imma gonna hit yas wit some colla". also there's a text tool so say goodbye to my lame, chicken scratch, hand writing. (maybe I still have to see if I can do word bubbles and if I can't I'll have to see if I can still make the text look good)
thanks for the feedback on my last picture. I still think I need more work with digital painting; but that's because I'm my own worst critic. also just looking 5 minutes on any art website I can see easily 25 pictures that put mine to shame and so the endless struggle for improving my artistic skills continues!

I was going for the rogue look because D&D seems to play a large part in housepets; but I'll settle for samurai.texascat018 wrote:he looks like a Japanese Samurai XP

Looking great as always! Yes, the writing can be distracting, though it is legible.
I cannot wait for color!

I don't think they're openly recruiting.Valerio wrote:I want to be in their team!
ps: Sorry I take so long to update; but I'm really busy with school. The main problem: I have to learn html 5 and it's difficult; so its eating away a lot of my time. Not to mention that all of the time I have to draw is used for my drawing and animation assignments. So I'll try and update when I can; I'm hoping to get back to one comic strip a week. Keeping my fingers crossed.

can't wait for the coloured strips o_o
btw, i suggest to work more on dialogues... i think sometimes they're not completely natural when they talk... of course, i just want to help, i think that your comic is great, the twins are awesome!

I always appreciate feedback, thank you. I try to make the dialogue as real as I can but sometimes I just can't make it work. if you would give me an example of dialogue that looks bad in my comic and put what you would have , that would be awesome._Stu_ wrote: btw, i suggest to work more on dialogues... i think sometimes they're not completely natural when they talk... of course, i just want to help, i think that your comic is great, the twins are awesome!
Re: Scratch's Fan Comics
No no they don't look "bad", sometimes only a little unnatural i guess. Your jokes are funny, but a little forced, that's what i think, they comes from natural situation, during not completely natural dialogues. Example... the two twins, they seems more collegues than brothers... it seems they know only a little of each other, and the way they tease the other one too, it's like Bad Boys or somethingScratch wrote:I always appreciate feedback, thank you. Of course, i've seen comics with more forced jokes, and they're not even funny so it's not this big problem. I also do this sometimes, but i always try, if possible, to make jokes natural in dialogues and context. If possible.

Re: Scratch's Fan Comics
I try to make the dialogue natural but I don't have anyone to critique my comics before I post them (Which is why I love feedback). I only have myself as reference for critique so I read it out loud and if it sounds good to me I move on. I do want to state that they speak more "slang" English rather than proper English._Stu_ wrote:No no they don't look "bad", sometimes only a little unnatural i guess. as for them treating each other more like colleagues; I have notices that in the fan stories I have read here characters who are siblings are really "affectionate" towards each other and in my experience people don't usually act like that, my brothers and I sure as heck don't. Then again I don't know what your upbringing was like, maybe my family is just weird, I don't know. Don't take this the wrong way they care for each other it's, just, unspoken between them.
ps: sorry I took awhile to reply I've been really busy.

Re: Scratch's Fan Comics
As you can see I used the text tool fo da text and I know it sticks out a lot and the bubbles are really distracting, but that's because I'm not coloring anything yet. I'm looking for a better font because ArtRage doesn't have any fonts that look good other than comic sans; which according to all of my instructors is a deathtrap to use and I should get in the habit of avoiding it. so if anyone knows any cool, READABLE fonts I am all ears. until then I shall scour the internet site known as fontsquirrel.com and then proceed to bash my head against a wall because I will have trouble installing the font.
p.s. been busy and now that I'm starting to go digital and color these and add text with ArtRage I'm adding another couple of hours into doing these.
p.p.s. there was originally a joke for the album cover but I was listening to Dio when I was drawing this so I changed it to the Holy Diver album cover because Dio was awesome.

Funny strip. I like it!
Dio is epic indeed.
Meh, I cannot really recommend a font. I am in the habit of using whatever I feel like at the moment myself.

if you're going to use a font, man, use Webletterer. Nothing beats that for a comic!
