"It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue"

... I haven't heard that line since the Commodore 64 days when i played random games on it and some of them were adventure keyboard games. I thank my uncle for that.

Also, Sabrina ~ I know Tarot says you should hide things from people, but don't be too openly modest about it!

Woohoo!!

As this is my first post let me introduce myself: Sauerpuss. Now that that's out of the way...

I've been following the comic for at least half a year now, maybe longer and enjoying it a lot. I'm mostly content to be a spectator but when Zork is quoted I have to say YAY! You go Rick!! Image

For those not familiar with the reference "It is pitch black, you are likely to be eaten by a grue."

Zork: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zork
Grue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grue_%28monster%29

The grue was designed to prevent the game's players from wandering around in the dark. Though there was a puzzle in episode 3 of the game where you had to get past them using a spray can of "Grue Repellant." In an earlier game, colossal cave, you'd fall into a deep pit if you tried wandering around in the dark (though in that game my player-character once died trying to pick an object up in the dark too).

Early '80's for me, and although we had C64's at school I had a TI994/A and Apple IIe (which Apple branded as Apple ][e).

Do you remember anything else in the game? A troll brandishing an axe? A "strong but silent" thief? A wizard who'd appear, cast spells on you starting with the letter "F", then vanish? Or the last episode in the trilogy where the dungeon master awaits you? :)

Apparently Infocom (the authors) used the grues in later games, but sadly I didn't get to play them so I don't know which ones. :(

Oh wow, I used to love that Looney Tunes episode - think it was where Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny did a 'Flight of the Valkyries' style opera number. So glad I got that reference :D

So... many... REFERENCES!!!!

O.O' AHHHHHHH!!!

No no, but I really love it! :D "What's Opera Doc" is one of my favorite episodes, and the viking helmut was a perfect opportunity to use that! Did you have that planned, or was that just sort of conjured last minute?

I think I can safely say that this is now one of my favorite strips in the whole comic.

And that Looney Tunes reference was glorious.

I would put Karishad down as more of a daffy duck...

And yes, the Looney tunes is awesome. Even the helmet being askew.... Bravissimo!

Zach's pose in the last panel is very awesome, I must say.

Hey, the current Looney Toons cartoon is decent.

It's nice having Karishad around. Terrible puns are everywhere.

Ok so this is how Pete got Mr. Milton to move the Temple (or at least he told him this in a dream anyway) I bet Keene is going to try to find some way to force Pete to do this, provided he doesn’t find out that it was all a lie first.

Edit: You know what I want to know now is, did Dragon promise anything to Tarot and her followers?

3rd panel Sabrina is priceless.

So that is Pete's horrible luck, eh? Seems fairly frustrated. I could lend him a ballpoint pen if he wants it. :)

One more feather in the cap, if Pete will give it. Let the adventure continue!! :D

I hear he's giving love and peace to humans and beast! :D

It seems more likely that the time being sealed up in the temple, as Pete said, 'jaded' him. It's uncertain in what way, but it's starting to hint it might've actually made him put truth into that proposition me thinks.
