Looks more like they just threw Leatherface into the plot of "The Unseen".

I am still waiting to see "John Dies At The End" if it gets a wide release.

From Don Coscarelli, who directed two of my all time movies, "Phantasm" and "Bubba Ho-Tep".
I really want to see the Phantasm movies. But for some reason all they have is Phantasm 2 on Netflix, and not the first one. I don't get that.

You will love them! But definitely start with the first film. They are amazing!

Well, now that I've seen the whole thing, I can safely call To Boldly Flee one of my favorite movies of all time.

I just watched Nosferatu for the first time. That was incredible. I can see why so many critics and cinemaphiles consider it a key film in the horror genre and movie history.

Next up on my list of movies to watch before Halloween, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari!

Excellent! All the German Expressionist horror films are good. Also check out "The Golem" and "Metropolis".

Halloween is next month! What horror films is everyone going to watch?

Will do! In fact, Netflix seems to have added a whole bunch of old German Expressionist and horror movies, as along with Cabinet I also found the original 1920s Phantom of the Opera, Faust, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde I suppose I just answered your question about what horror films I'll be watching. XD

Along with all this, I also plan on watching The Gate, John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness, Graveyard Shift, and well, pretty much as many horror films as I can, hehe.

"In The Mouth Of Madness" is awesome! Its not based off a particular Lovecraft story, but it is very Lovecraftian.

So I've heard. Though the title is very reminiscent of At the Mountains of Madness.

It also goes without saying that I'll watch as many of the Halloween movies as I can.

I just ordered "Juan of the Dead" and "The Last Circus", so that's what I am going to be watching.

Also, even though this probably won't play in a theater in America, I want to see the upcoming film "Stalingrad 3D".

Just watched The Big Sleep staring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
After hearing that the movie has confused its viewers since the day it came out, I had to see it. I will admit that I too got lost during the movie, but that doesn't mean its bad.
I read reviews saying "the plot is secondary and unimportant, just hang on for the ride as Bogie plays the best gumshoe ever." I would agree.

Erm, I think you mean Blu-ray releases. They've already had decent DVD releases. Or at least Halloween II has, because I own the DVD.

In any case, I'm totally gonna get the Halloween II: Season of the Witch release.

Oh, I didn't realize they were releasing a DVD version as well. Everything I've read has only mentioned the Blu-ray. Cool! Although, I hope they aren't just on the Shout! website. I'd like to be able to buy that awesome artwork in stores.

Edit: so, yesterday I watched Kubrick's The Shining for the first time. While I can see that it's a really great movie in its own right, it's really hard getting past all the changes he made from the novel.

I would hope so! I can't afford a Blu-ray player.

I see Kubrick's film as its own entity. Without the baggage of the source material it is a good movie.

I just found out that Jeff Smith's comic "Bone" is going to be adapted as a film!

and I found a whole laundry list of werewolf movies that are scheduled to come out soon!

http://www.imdb.com/list/-Irb8XBKi7E/

The good news is that there are a lot of interesting looking original films coming out, and the long delayed sequel to "Dog Soldiers"! The bad news, or at least what I am weary of, is that they are going to re-make "An American Werewolf In London" and "Monster Squad".

With the kind of reputation the movie has, it's easy to forget that the first Massacre really doesn't have that much actual blood in it, all things considered. Goes to show that gore isn't everything. Watching it made me really curious what they're gonna do with the new movie.

I miss the older style of horror movies. I'm not squeamish or anything and love some good gore effects but in the last couple years they've gone over the top to the point where the actual movie gets lost. (Saw,Hostel,ect......) It's like moviemakers forgot you need to actually create a good atmosphere and story to get anything more than jump scares. There are of course exceptions but the whole blockbuster horror movie market seems to be getting really dumbed down. A few more original ideas and fewer remakes/sequels would probably help.

Well, those are some pretty terrible examples of auteurship. I made up my mind about Eli Roth after watching that his crappy film "Cabin Fever". He was trying to use shock to make up for his artistic short comings and failed. Gore and class can co-exist in the same film, just look at Italian horror films.

I am thinking that a man with your sort of mind might enjoy a film that I recently picked up. Its called "House of the Devil". Its about a girl who accepts a babysitting job from an odd couple that lives in the middle of nowhere.

Hey now, the first Saw movie is actually rather devoid of blood and guts. It's only the later ones that turned into torture porn.

Anyway, I think it's characters we actually like, or at least relate to, that make for good horror.

I actually liked Cabin fever, it wasn't much of a horror flick but it blended horror and comedy well enough that I dig it.

I like that too, but "Cabin Fever" just didn't do it for me.

Last night I watched a movie that you might like, Seth. Its called "Killer Klowns From Outer Space". Its a horror/comedy about aliens that look like clowns. Most importantly, the entire soundtrack is by the punk band The Dickies.

I have heard alot of good things about that but never found a copy of it.
On a semi related note there's an awesome return of the living dead poster at a local store for 15 bucks (unfortunately not the original movie poster but still....). Gonna pick that up when I go shopping for some new music next paycheck.

Joss Whedon didn't forget and made "The Cabin in the Woods" in response to that trend.

The film handles its whole meta-stuff pretty well; I can only recommend it.

"The Cabin in the Woods" is an awesome movie! It's the kind of horror movie that remembers when horror was fun.

In related news, THIS looks like it could be pretty good and scary.

I'm a bit hesitant to see movies that capitalize on popular trends, especially in the horror genre. But the potential is there I suppose.

I say go for it! Is it a reproduction of the original poster art?

Have you seen "Return Of The Living Dead III"? Its the only one of the sequels worth watching, and it is really good! Don't bother with the 4th and 5th films. They were "Sci-Fi Channel Originals", so expect them to be terrible, and not in a good way.

Just give Part 3 a try. I think that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Speaking of zombie movies, I found a trailer for one that looks promising. Its called "Zombie Massacre".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNY1mjrLO5I

Now it is produced by Uwe Boll. But, he is producing only and leaving writing and directing duties to others. To be perfectly honest, I think that Boll is learning from his mistakes and his films are getting better! If you think I am crazy, just watch the film "Darfur" (aka "Attack On Darfur"). It is actually a good movie!

Ah, I remember my first Uwe Boll movie. Ironically, it was House of the Dead. The only time the Syfy Channel sequel was the superior film.

The last couple of years have been really big for the horror sub-genre of the zombie film. We have seen a lot of firsts, as many countries have started to embrace this genre for the first time.

Norway: Dead Snow/Død snø
Cuba: Juan of the Dead/Juan de los Muertos
Serbia: Zone of the Dead/Zona Mrtvih

And now Sweden is getting in on the act with "ZON261/Zone261".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-AgUm_vGwk

I have to say, it looks impressive and I really want to see it. It looks like it has some elements similar to the Spanish/Italian film "Nightmare City", in that the zombies are living dead, can run, and can use weapons! That means everyone is extra doomed!

Also, I just found out, the sequel to "Outpost" is coming out! "Outpost: Black Sun"!

I can't find a picture of the art online I'll post a pic of it when I buy it.
I actually really like sci-fi originals. They're a guilty pleasure of mine.
So last night I was watching desperado for the millionth time, I forgot how many awesome c and b list celebs has small roles in that one. (Dann trejo, steve buscemi, cheech marin, quentin tarantino)

Oh man that's such an awesome movie. I absolutely love the impressionist style backgrounds. Plus I'm a huge rob Zombie fan so I geeked out every time I recognized something he'd referenced in his video for Living Dead girl.

If anyone wants to see it and doesn't have netflix There are alot of old horror movies (Including Caligari) in their entirety on youtube. You do have to suffer through commercials every 20-30 minutes but it's still pretty cool.

A lot of those movies from that time period are in the public domain, so they can be watched and downloaded for free with no reprisals from any copyright holders.

I post PD films on my youtube page all the time. Some good films lapse into the public domain, but a lot are there because nobody wanted them.

I ordered my copy of the "Halloween II" special edition tonight, and joy of joys Shout Factory is also going to give a special edition of "Phantasm II"!

I ordered my copy of the "Halloween II" special edition tonight, and joy of joys Shout Factory is also going to give a special edition of "Phantasm II"!
Gah! I don't get it! Why's it always Phantasm II that gets all the releases and attention? Why about the first Phantasm movie? I can't find it anywhere, and I'd really prefer watching them in order. :(

Also, what's your youtube page?
