Re: The Food Topic #Nom nOm noM
We get salsa and chips with good Tex-Mex up here in the northern reaches of the US. I haven't found any true Mexican restaurants around here like I've seen in AZ, but they must exist. Big metropolitan areas tend to have every cuisine known to man, and some not.

I'm from Maryland and we have that, so I don't think it's an exclusively Texas thing.

Pea: Not exclusively, no. But I was only talking about Texas to begin with... didn't want to make any overly broad statements.
That said (from personal experience during summer travel), the concept does seem to be somewhat less common in the northern half of the States... maybe about a 60/40 or 70/30 split? For whatever it's worth, that's going by a fairly limited sample.

Sleet, such murderous intents! I'm surprised. I work in a Mexican restaurant which are kind of rare in Australia. We get people coming from a 45min drive away to eat at our place. People always seem to like the food but because it's technically a family restaurant we have to keep everything mild and have people ask for hot sauce on the side.

Re: The Food Topic #Nom nOm noM
Never, ever make hot chips ( these ) in a microwave. I microwaved them for ten minutes and the edges were just beginning to harden while they were still ultimately mush. I heated up the deep fryer in a last attempt to save my chips, and in five minutes I had perfectly good hot chips. ^_^ For seasoning, I use salt and pepper, and a second ingredient that changes names depending on where in the U.S. it is found. In the south, it's called red seasoning salt. In the north, it is commonly referred to as chili powder. Either way, it's pretty much the same thing. Ranch also makes a fantastic dipping sauce for hot chips as well, although I am interested in trying honey mustard the next time I make them.

No but suddenly I feel extremely deprived. Also, that's really stereotypical. And yet amazing. Just like the various frightening-yet-delicious American deep-fried novelties.

I'm pretty sure it's a Canadian thing. However, I do live in the South so maybe the northern U.S. has heard of that combination. Also, Point 1) I'm lactose intolerant. Point 2) I don't like very sweet stuff. Chocolate is my sweets limit.

Yes, British people have a caramel center . In all seriousness, I've heard that the chocolate over in European countries is better than the U.S. stuff. It contains more cocoa and is sweeter.

In the US when you order fish at a restaurant, you get a neat little fillet.
Elsewhere, you get a fish containing a neat little fillet. I wonder why there is a difference.

Well, most of the good chocolate you can buy in the US is foreign, so it's understandable.

I've never had the good stuff, if I did I might actually like chocolate. This is one of my favorite places (I can't say the name here, It'll get censored. It's just the founders name...short for "Richard") It's their fries that I love the most...and shakes. So, If you are ever in the area, try it!

Eh, I wouldn't say any. I mean, I like pickles, but I won't put them on anything other than burgers or sandwiches.
Heck, most of the time I just eat 'em right outta the jar.

My exact reaction when I saw them on the menu of a local burger joint. Delicious with honey mustard, or ranch, even plain!

Re: The Food Topic #Nom nOm noM
You know, I have only once ever had something so hot that I needed to drink something. There have been times that I went for water or milk, but only once that I absolutely needed a drink and decided not to have more after. Usually when I have something hot, I'm just like "Yea, it's kind of hot. But it needs to be hotter."
