Re: Chat Thread 37: Diss Wants to Be Involved
12 ounces of soda does the same job, hydration-wise, as 6 ounces of water (IIRC). The sodium isn't really a big deal. In fact, your body needs some salts as it loses them via sweat-- this is the idea behind Gatorade. The issues with sodas is that caffeine acts as a diuretic, and offsets some of the drink's liquids by sending H2O straight to your bladder (again, IIRC). So maybe caffeine-free drinks aren't as bad, whereas something like a Red Bull or Monster might even have a negative hydration value.
And pancreatic function is one of the reasons diet sodas aren't as good as they seem. Aspartame, sucralose, and other artificial sweeteners can actually "game" the pancreas into elevating blood sugar levels and screw with proper metabolization of other calories. Or something like that.

Y'know this argument is a prime example of why ignoring your physical health is the path to a much happier existence.

KJOOkami might have downplayed the fact that high fructose corn syrup makes you stupider, but the fact still stands.
Drinks like soda is filled with HFCS. HCFS is known to destroy memory and slow mental function.
It not only inhibits your ability to learn in the future but will also make you forget what you have learned before.
I am greatly annoyed at how much you want to defend your soda lifestyle.
Omega-3s can be consumed to balance and neutralize the harmful effects from HCFS.
You can drink soda all you want, but in the end all you're doing is harming your body and giving money away to corporations.

Let's not get political or overly confrontational here, please. Corporations are fine and it is everyone's choice whether to drink soda, as it's everyone's choice whether to use tobacco products or drink alcohol.

Re: Chat Thread 37: Diss Wants to Be Involved
Okay, dude.
1) Chill the heck out.
2) I've already given my reasoning as to why I'm not concerned about the negative effects that soda has. If it does in fact reduce my capacity to memorize things in the future (it does NOT literally deteriorate the things that I already know; you're making that up, and none of the links you posted mentioned anything of the sort), then it obviously isn't on a large enough scale to be noticeable.
I'm not denying that it's unhealthy, nor am I denying that there are much healthier things to drink. Until there is some actual, calculable effect on me (like I actually start to have trouble remembering things that I *should* remember), I really don't care. And I'm really getting kinda sick of this whole "holier-than-thou" tone that you're giving off.
You're free to not drink soda, but don't get on me just because I'm in good enough health to not care about how much soda I'm intaking or not.

As does...the vast majority of preservatives and such things that are used in mass produced products. Doesn't mean the studies showcased are right in all situations. Things affect people differently. A blanket statement that soda makes you stupider is...inappropriate, to say the least. Especially considering plenty of intelligent people drink plenty of soda. A lot of things are bad for the body, yet millions of people eat/drink these products and experience no negatives.Wanderer wrote: HCFS is known to destroy memory and slow mental function.

The caffeine in soda dehydrates you because it makes your body think you drank more water than you did and it makes you pee a lot. Truth.

Cold brewed berry iced tea. (Like, made with an actual tea thingy you dip in the water, one cup at a time) I'm having some right now.

Hi, guys, my name is Dissension and there's something I'd like to say. It is against the rules to ignore a moderator acting in their official capacity and you may be warned for doing so.

This is political. I already said not to get politics involved, too. A corporation is a collective of individuals empowered to act as a single entity. Do not try to introduce politics again, please, in any topic. Saying 'we certainly are not going to talk about "X"' is, believe it or not, discussing said topic.Liam wrote:On the contrary, but let's leave it at that.Dissension wrote:Corporations are fine

Yikes! 4 pages since my last visit. I can't believe you fellas used to do that every day.
Soda. Or is it pop? I used to drink hardly any of the stuff, but since I changed jobs I've been drinking the stuff every day. For the caffeine, because the coffee is awful. I need the caffeine because I don't get enough sleep, because I stay up too late because there is hardly any activity during the day. Vicious cycle.
