I didn't say it was a bad thing, just questioning the use of the term "Spring"
should have been mid-semester break.
should have been mid-semester break.

only when it's not in spring. a lot of places line it up with Easter which is always in spring.
Re: Chat Thread 35: If It Doesn't Exist, Then It Will Be Mad
I still have one more week -_-
Re: Chat Thread 35: If It Doesn't Exist, Then It Will Be Mad
I asked my friends today and their school (like my old High school) didn't get spring break until the last week of March or the beginning of April.
Mid-semester break seems a lot more better for college since that's usually when spring break begins due to the curriculum.

Moments like these when it is annoying to live in tropical land where seasons do not exist. I am going to suppose that it is in fact, spring and summer starts in may although I don't know what day of may.
Sent from my conifer.
Re: Chat Thread 35: If It Doesn't Exist, Then It Will Be Mad
I'm pretty sure Spring and Summer officially start March 21'st and June 21'st respectively in the Northern Hemisphere.

Wikipedia says the equinox is the 20th this year.

That's right, because of the leap year it's the 20'th. By 2015 it should be like the 22'nd.Sleet wrote:Wikipedia says the equinox is the 20th this year.
As for unofficial starts to seasons, memorial day in the US is usually when summer starts unofficially. I don't know about spring.

I've always thought it was silly to set down specific universal days for the beginning of seasons. I suppose to a meteorologist or climatologist it may be necessary, but I don't see any reason to say "The temperature's been in the 70s for two weeks and trees are blooming and pollen is all over everywhere, but it's not spring until the calendar says so".

It matters when the official last day of winter has significance to a certain fandom.

Re: Chat Thread 35: If It Doesn't Exist, Then It Will Be Mad
It's actually more of an astronomical thing. The equinoxes are when the earths axis is aniline with the suns. Tomorrow the sun will shine on almost all parts of the earth.CaptainPea wrote:I've always thought it was silly to set down specific universal days for the beginning of seasons. and that's spring, apparently...
I think meteorological spring is the last day of frost.

So if metaphorical winter is from first to last frost, than my winter was like 2 weeks long.

Re: Chat Thread 35: If It Doesn't Exist, Then It Will Be Mad
There were literally two days this "winter" where there was any snow on the ground whatsoever. I'm also not in charge of bringing home the southern birds, or any other such activity. So without anything to wrap up, particular dates have no significance to me, brony or not.
I tend to just say "Spring weather", "Summer weather", "Autumn weather", and "Winter weather" about a particular day rather than worrying about what season it technically is. Because, honestly, at least here in NJ, seasons have been way out-of-wack for a looooong time now. I remember having that distinct change in weather at approximate times throughout the year when I was kid, but it hasn't been that way for a long time.
But it's got nothing to do with global warming. Nope.

Re: Chat Thread 35: If It Doesn't Exist, Then It Will Be Mad
Summer weather is hot. Winter weather is cold. Spring and Fall weather are constantly changing from hot to cold.
That's how I see it in the US midwest. Equinoxes defining seasons are a bit different from the type of weather occurring.
I remember back late last summer it went from 90 to 100 degrees and dry everyday to rainy and cold everyday right after Labor Day. Around Labor Day and Easter is when the jet stream is right for weather to change from hot to cold every other day and that's fall and spring. I don't doubt that we'll see colder weather this month because that's the set up for spring weather this time of year.

Where I live, the weather is always either cold, friezing cold, hot, or burning hot. There is no middle ground.
Speaking of drastic changes in temperature, remember when you guys froze me, and then set me on fire trying to melt the ice? I do.
Good times, good, good times.
