Oh mannnnn
Jackie Chan adventures
I just nostalgia'd hard.

I'm thinking about getting a Rocky Horror Picture show poster to hang in my bathroom.
Partly because I love Rocky horror, but mostly to creep out my suitemates(and my roommate  ).
thoughts?

There is a movie theater in Bridgewater I think, that the first Friday of every month shows the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and people always show up to see it. I'm thinking of going soon.

I really don't understand what people see in Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I tried watching it last semester at college because several of my friends are HUGE fans (they had actually recently gone to some special event commemorating it not long before), but I honestly couldn't find much of anything about the movie that would make it even bearable enough to see more than once, let alone develop into a cult following.

Can anyone explain to me the intended appeal to it? Because I really don't get it. @__@

like most things with cult followings, you either love it or you don't like it at all. there's no way to explain it.

well honestly I've never seen the whole thing. just a little of the beginning. but yes, I suppose it's more like some people really love it, and the ones who don't can't tell why and can't explain it.

I would say it's very easy to not like, because It's of very low technical quality and isn't even really a story so much as a bunch of things happening.

Anyone seen The Room? That movie's got a similarly creepy following, but it's more "this movie sucks" than "this movie is goofy."

I think the main reason I disliked it as much as I did is because the only thing it seemed to be trying to accomplish was to be as raunchy and over-the-top sexual as humanly possible. It seemed like it was trying to make a statement (what kind of statement, I've got no clue), but then just said "screw it" and made every other character gay, bisexual, or transgendered, gave them a sex scene, and called it a day.

I dunno. Maybe I was just expecting more from it because of all the hype my friends were making about it. *shrug*

And I only know what The Room is because of NC's review of it. XD

It's very quotable. Also quite inappropriate. It's rather indulgent, which is part of why it's so famously terrible.

I HATE that movie, bu it is so funny. Look into the Nostalgia Critic's review of it, it involves Sea Horses taking over the world.

In lexington, we have a big party around Halloween dedicated to Rocky to celebrate how our culture doesn't need to be sexually repressed.

Anyway, like I said, it doesn't take itself so seriously, so no, it wasn't making a statement. That's the exact opposite of what it was doing.
KJOokami wrote:but then just said "screw it" and made every other character gay, bisexual, or transgendered, gave them a sex scene, and called it a day.
THIS is what they were trying to do. Everything is just silly and over the top.
How much you enjoy it depends on how you decide to watch it. It's a great B-Movie, and a terrible Movie.

No, B movies are movies that were shown to supplement the A Movies at the drive in, and were there-for subsequently usually bad. But you didn't come to see the B movie anyway, so who cares if it's bad. It's like saying "Man this music sucks." Well yes, of course it sucks. You're listening to a humorous phone conversation. The sooner you stop saying that it has no rhythm and start noticing that it's quite hilarious the sooner we can all get to enjoying things again.

So basically, every great B-movie is a terrible movie, but not every terrible movie is a great B-movie.

Indeed
B movies make something so terrible it's good
and thus they are the highest form of human art.

(Snakes on a palne being the best example of this underappreciated art form)

Snakes on a plane isn't a B-Movie. They don't make B-Movies anymore. I guess Indie movies are the "modern" B-Movie, but they're not USUALLY so-bad-it's-good material.

B-Movie used to mean the other half of a double feature, but CAN still mean "any low budget movie."

That being said, Napoleon Dynamite wasn't exceptionally low budget.

How about the Anaconda movies? Those things were AWFUL. And yet, I love them! They were so horribly written and had some pretty crappy actors, sort of like the Halloween series. Those movies were great movies, but horribly acted (for some of them) and just had a rather repetitive storyline. It was the same movie something like five times, just in different locations and with some different people. For both Halloween and Anaconda. Yet they're still somehow pretty awesome. At least to me. *shrugs* I dunno.

According to Psyke, those movies and the sort can be considered B-movies. I also think that all of the SCI-Fi channel original movies can be considered B-movies.

I don't know that TV movies count.
It's just a small production company doing a small movie.

I used to love watching Sci-Fi creature films. XD Well, I still do, I just don't get to do as often because most of the new movies they put on "SyFy", as they call it now, are just bad. Not funny bad; just bad-bad.

I think one of my favorites was one of the alligator or croc ones. Can't remember which one. I just remember laughing hysterically as it rampaged around some resort-type place, chasing people all over the place like the old Scooby Doo cartoons. Limbo like me.
