might I suggest editing the first post's title. (German Translation?)

So, a friend of mine, who is also German and bilingual, (and laughs at me while I'm attempting to pronounce German words...darn that "r" sound!) thinks you're doing a really good job so far. Just to let you know.
Keep it up!

you should not worry. Lopiko, Foldo and I changed the titles without problem. You can do that.

I think Lynard spoke about the first post in the thread (not written by him).

Re: German Translation
welcome back!!! i was missing your language
I couldn't help noticing that in the 'a real buzz' strip, you changed the original text to 'Chocolate-covered espresso beans and free time are a very bad combination'. How come, out of curiosity? Perhaps the direct translation would have resulted in a too-long sentence?
Keep up the great job!

If i keep closer to the original text it would be 'Hab niemals zuviel Zeit und Schokoladen-Überzogene Espressobohnen im gleichen Raum' (this is a 1:1 translation now). I think i will change the text in the strip tomorrow as the first translation is a bit too far away from the original.
Re: German Translation
And one more - the other one's of this arc giving me some headache for a good translation, i will sleep over it, maybe i will have some inspiration

Re: German Translation
first strip, second panel, grape saying something like 'these are the kind of ideas you should keep to yourself', right? Good enough, it respects the original meaning.
Also, AltehrwurdigenHundeClub...*whew* one should get admitted only for pronouncing without blabbering
Great work as usual!! Keep 'em coming!

Re: German Translation
Yes, that's the translation. I usually try to translate into german and then look over the sentences if they make sense and if they sound like spoken in german (which doesn't work sometimes)valerio wrote:first strip, second panel, grape saying something like 'these are the kind of ideas you should keep to yourself', right? The Club's name.... welll yes, i was thinking quite some time about that. If you translate 'Good old Boys Dog Club' word by word you will get something nobody calls a club in german I could also used 'Alteingesessen' which means long-established, but i thought that the current translation sounds a bit better

Re: German Translation
Alright, i posted this strip as a single one because i need to explain the third panel (as i know some people would ask about). In the original Version the Dialog is:
Peanut: Sorry, but you have to admit You're something of a Tomboy
Grape: Tomcat
That is the Pun here. Unfortunately you can't simply translate that to geman
Tomboy -> der Wildfang (Male in German)
Tomcat -> die Wildkatze (Female Wild-Cat)
'Katze' in German is used generally for Cats having a neutral Meaning and also for Female Cats while male Cats are 'Kater'. In the German Version i switched the two words, so the Pun will work again.
Sheesh... took me some time to figure that one out
Edit: fixed a small failure on the lower area (Export had placed parts of another Speechbubble there)

Re: German Translation
Das wäre dann aber falsch übersetzt, im Orginal sagt Peanut 'You are a girl'Jakkal wrote:ich würde als Penuts letzen satz lieber sagen:

Weiblich ist Female. Ausserdem passt das mit dem Mädchen besser, Peanut entspricht laut Charakterseite einem Sechsjährigen Jungen.

Re: German Translation
And the last one for this story arc
For your Information: Root Beer Floats are mostly unknown here in Germany, so i tried to translate as close as possible (with some help from Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_beer_ ... beer_float, as i didn't know either, what it is )
Edit: I have changed the root beer floats to 'Malzbier' (Malt Beer) because the first one is nearly unknown in Germany. I also added some Informations to the strip about the replacement.

Re: German Translation
(I'm staying in english here, I think thats more polite to the rest of the people here)
Well you are right, thats a very close translation to the original sentence. The question is, how far do you want to 'germanise' the comic? (Just thinking about Malt Beer with Vanilla Ice... I don't think that would be something i'd like to drink)
Considering the availability of root beer here in germany - Most stores like Real, or Lidl are selling Root Beer - of course not the large amount of brands you will find in an american store like Safeways (or any other), but you can find it here in germany, too.
I think some people here are using the german translation to polish their german knowledge some so the question is - how far should the translation go? Does an american know, what malt beer is? (I mean the sweet non-alcoholic stuff you can buy here, not the general term). If so, i could change the meaning for it in the last comic strip.

Re: German Translation
the answer is YES "Hi" is in german a basic word meant the self thing we in english but by "Hipp Hipp Hooray" that say not many german people most of all "Hipp Hipp Hurra" but it sounds better in the strip
