You're implying that we can only explore King's character when he is King. If he turned back to Joel he is still the same person. Now he's just a human who was attracted to a dog at one point.

Although it would be weird to have a strong recurring human character in Housepets.

Well, yeah, he'd more likely be "put on a bus" as Joel.

I kind of feel like human Joel wouldn't fit the comic very, but that's a good point, we could always see Joel become a major character.

Care to elaborate? After putting a quarter in the swear jar?

We have a swear jar?
Im Bicycle Repair Man (see what I did there? :P man I'm clever!)

Joel/King's search for identity is something ripe to be explored over a long period of time, plus I think that King will be used to show us more about the cosmic nerds.
If I had to guess Rick has a few cool ideas kicking around with King's predicament, so having him pick between dog and human now doesn't seem likely to me.
I think in Non-sequiturs

You know though, I've been thinking about this plot a bit. And have thought of at lest two other instances in mainstream, there may be more, in which something similar happens. Here's what I mean: Main character A falls in love with/has crush on minor/side character B, the story is full of awkward moments and interludes, until finally, A confesses to B. What normally happens: B is attached to sometihng someone else, A has to leave B, B (in at least two cartoons) runs off with side character C, A doesn't even get a chance and something happens to B, A makes a complete idiot of themselves and loses whatever chance he had with B, or something vice versa. There's a lot of ways this could go yet.

It's probably because he suspects there won't be any relationship. And I'm pretty sure he's glad to see King not in a bad mood, for once.

The smell of wet dog is usually considered gross by humans.
King was probably not expecting a pleasant aroma, but his nose is a lot more sensitive as a dog.
Either that or all his senses are blinded by love.

I just want this comic to come out every day, i can't wait till monday for the next strip.

King looks so cute in every panel, especially the first one, it's the hair.

I like how he wants to humanise himself because who wouldnt in his situation, but in the end i believe he's going to choose to be a dog and think "Love is my reward for having such a crappy life".

Bailey's gender was certainly there a long ways back. I never noticed until now, but Bailey had eye lashes back then too.

Now, we obviously know the dog is clearly representative of the unfortunate condition the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc is currently in, with the door representing Ukraine, but I'm curious what all your opinion is on the symbolism of the squirrel.
