 Re: The Sports Thread
Yeah, Ice Hockey is the sport that I find most interesting, but I'm not that into sports in general.
I like to bowl every now and then and have a good average. I'm not that into the sport, and I usually just hang out with a friend or two and bowl a couple games at the ally.

 Re: The Sports Thread
I've been to hockey games before and it's fun, but I'm not a big fan of watching it on TV.
Also, Cardinals win the wildcard! Wooooo!

 Re: The Sports Thread
Orioles bumped the Red Sox out of wildcard position! Which is the most they could've hoped to accomplish, really.

 Re: The Sports Thread
I've been a Yankees fan since I was about 7(when I relaized Jeter grew up about 90 minutes from my hometown) so it was pretty cool to see the Sox get bumped.

 Re: The Sports Thread
I'm pretty ambivalent towards the Yankees, but my opinion of the Red Sox is more negative than positive so I'm happy about this.

 Re: The Sports Thread
I'm a huge fan of sports and athletisism in general Basketball, American football, a bit of free running and skateboarding comprise my sports of choice, but I'm decent at athletics and can give essentially any other sport a fair knock. In terms of teams, I've been a Dallas Mavericks fan for two years (no glory seeker comments please, I liked them before the Playoff victory ) and don't really have a football team I follow as of yet. Favourite sports personalities would be Dirk Nowitzki (basketball), Kevin Garnett (basketball), Danny Way (skateboarding) and Bob Burnquist (skateboarding). GO MAVS! :3

 Re: The Sports Thread
Sleet beat Housefox in the World Series! As unattached as I am, I was still kind of hoping Texas could win since they never have. But it still wasn't the Red Sox or Yankees, so at least we've got some variety.
Do any baseball aficionados know when the last time was that a wildcard team won?

That was the second time in a row that the Rangers have gone to the World Series and lost. x3 Good job, ol' St. Louis.

 Re: The Sports Thread
looooooool esports. I guess I personally like watching almost every sport imaginable. (Cricket, Football, Soccar, Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, Tennis, Gridiron etc... But not Netball. ) Unfortunately I don't like playing the sports as much. Well, I used to like playing sports, but mostly Basketball. Let's see, last sporting event I watched was the Rugby World Cup, which was really disappointing imo. Eh, I feel like watching TV now.

 Re: The Sports Thread
Not really anything. They're both watching people much better than you play games for very high stakes.
That said, I don't really like esports. Just personal preference; I have no disrespect for those who do.

 Re: The Sports Thread
Oh, okay. Well, there are a lot of jocks and stuff that hate it when it's called a sport cause lolyou don't physically move around much and stuff. And E-sports is pretty big! There are a lot of competitions, conventions etc that has big tournaments with super good players and big prize pools!

I consider esports more an analog to sports than a subset of them.

Well, the London Olympics are pretty close with about a fortnight to go before they commence. Anyone excited about any events in particular? I know I'm looking forward to the basketball, especially Team USA leveling everyone

 Re: The Sports Thread
Maybe there's not enough countries that are interested- but surely there's more countries with an interest in baseball than basketball. That is kind of weird.

 Re: The Sports Thread
I'm not sure that's strictly true - basketball is definitely an international sport that has a large presence in every continent. But regardless it is a bit weird that there's no baseball this year considering it had been active for the past few games. Blame our bad British weather Also excited to see Bolt breaking the land speed record in my own country

I wasn't aware basketball was very big anywhere but USA, China and North Korea. And Baseball in USA, Japan and the Dominican Republic.

 Re: The Sports Thread
Some notable players from around the world are Tony Parker (France), Pau Gasol (Spain), Andrew Bogut (Australia), Luol Deng (UK) and Dirk Nowitzki (Germany). There are teams all over the UK and many of the other European countries, though they usually pale in comparison to the NBA teams. Regardless, it's a very popular sport that has more interest than it is often credited for
