Re: One-Offs Set #25: Writer's Cramping My Style
Peter Von Brown deliberately doesn't use a certain word, but it isn't an adverb, and he wouldn't even say what it was on his blog. I had to figure it out on my own.

Adverbs are pretty much words that describe a verb, and apparently Peanut is reading some tips on writing. In the last panel he noticed how "lets go for a walk on the day after this one" didn't quite fit as well as "lets go for a walk tomorrow"PhoenixAsper wrote:<squints> "Write Like A Writer".

The Ryan North Law of Webcomics: Strips that require the least effort to draw tend to have the funniest words.

I see the other creepy friend is a trekkie.
why don’t you just name him and get rid of they “Joey’s creepy friends” tag? may I suggest Tiberius?

Still no name? That's it! I hereby dub him scotty. Just because, okay!?

They expect to find powerful artifacts at a peaceful elf village? They really should try a church. maybe they'll pick up a holy beam spell!
Would be funny if his name was based off of a Federation ship like the Enterprise or the Valiant.
But yes, i too suggest naming Joey's creepy friends too. He only has two creepy friends afterall!

He's probably named Noonian. Or Noonian Tiberius. Or maybe he's named Warf since he goes woof.Karlos wrote:Ah, my favorite dalmatian finally appeared =D

Wow, Joey's friends are cute, despite being ultimate nerds. But I really wonder what the dalmatian's name is. My guess is something like Gandalf or something.

That assumes the dog's a boy. Baby pink collar.
Mod Edit-Watch what you say, Jerk covers it just as nice.

I like "Joey's Creepy Friends" as a name tag for the other two. Remember, we have 20+ named characters in this comic, not every background character needs a name.

the thing is, Lester is already named. having "Joey's creepy friends" is redundant, because there's only one unnamed creepy friend. maybe if Rick makes it singular.Foxstar wrote:I like "Joey's Creepy Friends" as a name tag for the other two. Re: One-Offs Set #25: Writer's Cramping My Style
making it singular/grouped at times would make it alot more easier. whether he wants his webcomic characters to be identified like that is up to him, but that could definitely work.RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:the thing is, Lester is already named. having "Joey's creepy friends" is redundant, because there's only one unnamed creepy friend. maybe if Rick makes it singular.

there could be easily more than those two sitting at the table?

That's right. Isn't the smallest DnD game need at least 6 players? Wait a minute. That doesn't count the cosmic DnD game.

D&D can be played with 2 or even 1 if you're resourceful.

I'm adding Trekkiedots to my list of personal favorite one-off/background characters
Re: One-Offs Set #25: Writer's Cramping My Style
I think it's pretty bad that I once had a D&D group like this. My DM would have to usually force them into nice conversation, aka, have quick extraordinarily overpowered backup that makes them think twice about stabbing the guy in front of them. Like, say, that epic level guard standing right over there.
Playing GM myself, I've found it's best to plan for everything you want your players to do- then to ALSO plan for everything you DON'T want your players to do. Then plan for the things you don't expect them to do. The one thing you can expect is that your players will do their best to break the game. XP

Re: One-Offs Set #25: Writer's Cramping My Style
I just design each campaign to have something that fits naturally into each player's preferred solutions; if someone loves burning down villages, give them a situation where burning down a village is actually a good thing. And then if they try to break it further I just ad-lib punishments.

Re: One-Offs Set #25: Writer's Cramping My Style
In one situation where I wanted my players to attack someone, they didn't- and they had good reason to attack him, too, since he had his forces attack them. Normally, they randomly attacked people even if another, easier solution was available. I had to quickly think on my feet to make sure the story advanced correctly. I pulled it off, but the session ended early, because I expected them to battle the guy, which would have taken a ton of time. So I can understand Joey needing to make a loot table like that. XD

Re: One-Offs Set #25: Writer's Cramping My Style
I think a lot of it comes from an unwavering faith in the DM: they know that no matter what stupid crap they pull, they'll level up and progress.
