Another suggestion for the comments page
Do something so the first page of comments are still accessible even after comments are closed on the page. It's frustrating having to add (dont remember what exactly it was but something along the lines of)page-1 to the url.
That would be awesome.

I think that's actually a bug with comic press that Rick can't fix. So until a new version is released, no dice, unfortunately.

There *is* a new version but I think I am waiting for Comicpress 3 to come out now because they always blindside you with the new version and I'm not quite prepared to spend a whole day rebuilding the site

Does rick have access to the sourcecode? This should be easy to fix... I can even do it myself.Buckdida wrote:I think that's actually a bug with comic press that Rick can't fix. So until a new version is released, no dice, unfortunately.

Re: Another suggestion for the comments page
As Rick said, the issue will apparently be taken care of when Housepets! moves to Comicpress 3. It's not really major enough for further action to be taken.

editing the source code
just to be able to view really old comments
hmmm
sure, editing source code is not a really big deal, but i would be inclined to say that not being able to view the old comments is even less of a big deal...

Re: Another suggestion for the comments page
I think what everyone's trying to say is that this is not going to happen. Whether it would be easy is not the issue. Nobody's saying it's a bad idea, just that we're going to let the glitch be resolved with the Comicpress 3 upgrade.

Re: Another suggestion for the comments page
Why not? It can be as easy as copy-and-pasting ~2 lines of code.
Not to mention rick said he's not upgrading it.
edit: what version of comicpress is being used?

Re: Another suggestion for the comments page
The reason he isn't going to mess with the source code is that there is no pressing reason to do so. Housepets! currently uses Comicpress 2.8. Comicpress 2.9 is available, but Rick isn't switching to that one because as soon as he did, they'd unleash Comicpress 3 and he'd have to rebuild the site twice.rickgriffin wrote:...I am waiting for Comicpress 3 to come out...

Re: Another suggestion for the comments page
I find it somewhat surprising that somebody screaming about editing source code doesn't actually click View Page Source on the homepage (well, it's rather the code produced by the server-side script, but that doesn't matter now) in his browser before asking, to find thatReCreate wrote:edit: what version of comicpress is being used?
Code: Select all
<meta name="ComicPress" content="2.8.0.R5" />

Re: Another suggestion for the comments page
I actually looked into the page source before but i never noticed that. And by sourcecode I meant the server-sided PHP sourcecode.

Re: Another suggestion for the comments page
Okay I am not sure why I didn't do this before, but the comments have been expanded to 500 per page so there are no breaks

Oh crap. That's a lot of comments on one page.rickgriffin wrote:Okay I am not sure why I didn't do this before, but the comments have been expanded to 500 per page so there are no breaks
It does solve the current problem, though. We haven't broken more than about 250-300 comments yet, right? Yet.

Re: Another suggestion for the comments page
Today we broke 300. I Doubt we will get too far past 500 within the next few months or so.
