lol, this response = win XD
I must say, I really wasn't expecting Spot anymore, but I do think it is a much more entertaining way to go with it. But Peanut's response to the charges is what made the strip for me. I'm with everyone else at this point, I can't wait to see Grape and Max's response to seeing spot. Monday can't come quickly enough.
And I must say Rick, very impressive work on Spot's anatomy (and I mean that in a purely artistic sense.)
I actually thought (while the pic was still loading) that Peanut would imagine himself as the low res blue lined spot in a high res professional background/world. That would be silly and... wierd.
But this works just as well.
And I love that quote "awesome as charged"
Everything I need to know, I learned from webcomics!
all of a sudden I'm hit by an ominous thought.
I fear that this arc will end with a fearful fight between (the real) Peanut and Grape and a broken friendship...
You know, Cassandra syndrome and all...

I'm sure if the story did go in such a direction, it would only be temporary. Though I would imagine that Grape isn't the type of "person" you want mad at you, for any period of time.

Yeah, but Spot Gray's existence was erased after Spot Prime punched reality in Distress on Incessant Worlds (1986).
But isn't this the spot from the reboot "Ultimate Spot" final victory 2 (1998)?
because that would explain a lot.
No, I think you're thinking of the Spot that was best known for the time when the Cyborg posed as Spot while Spot went to the shattered remains of Orphan to see if he could negate the effects of orphanite on Earth by bringing back anti-orphanite, in Spot: Chain Reaction. (1995)
That Spot was a continuation of the the main plot line that started in 1990 after the previous artist retired. Fans had been complaining at that point that the series was deriving from the original style, and they wanted a change back to that.
Sorry guys, I'm a purist, I only follow the 'Nutter Comix series. Once they sold and the new productions team (Jelly Productions, I think it was?) really took over and changed the direction, I just couldn't take it seriously anymore. The original series has been continued by various fans online, but we all hope that one day the original artist will return.

You know that artist has a distant cousin living in Hong Kong right now? I heard he also works in the comic industry as an inker on one of those overseas productions. He is literally paid in Doritos, but sometimes he sends messages to his cousin over here for creative input. There are scarps of his work you can find online, some even translated; and if you're a purist, it might be worth a look, even for just a glint of that good ol' Nutter vibe.

Still, I'm not sure if the original artist will come back. I mean, there was that whole lawsuit over Rover (Spiderdog) and cameos, not to mention that he's getting on in years. He's probably made enough money to live comfortably for the srest of his life, too. It's sad, I know.
(Does this belong in this thread, since it's not actually a comic...?)
No fair! No fair! Making me read through all that text, with no visual accompaniment, and then ending on such a cliffhanger! No fair!
And I mean that in the best possible way. Have been looking forward to this story for a long time, and cannot wait for the next installment! (How many will there be total?)
This was such a a good start to my UIL day.
I thank you for making me laugh hysterically before getting cooped up in a classroom for 2 hours with nothing but a dude that didn't know what loud was, a dictionary, and a pencil.
You wouldn't at all be surprised that I already have, lol.
Say, would anyone in this community like to collaborate to turn the "All the King's Men" story into an actual comic?
We could each do parts of it. Kind of like a translation project I guess (Written to Drawn).

What do you mean that's not what the signature is for?

Yes! to fanart!
Aww, to your proposal: I really, royally suck at drawing
But I promise I'll work on the translation of such gem
