Furry Warrior: A Challenger Novel (Work in Progress)

Post by Challenger01 »

It was her eyes that he loved.

Robert stared into Shanna's eyes or a moment before rolling out of bed. He got up, stretched his arms high, nearly touching the ceiling, and started walking over to the bathroom to grab his robe. "Come back to bed sweetie... I miss you already" Shanna said, trying to lure him back into bed for a few more minutes of alone time. "Honey, I'm just getting up to get the mail, I'll be back" Robert looked back at Shanna and winked playfully.

He walked to the front door, but something was wrong, someone was already waiting there for him. Robert could see through the glass panes on the front door, a man wearing black shades was all he could see. "Ugh, wonder what the FBI wants with me now... forget to pay my taxes again? Pfft." Robert said in a fairly unusual demeanor, considering his rock solid SEAL training.

Robert got to the door and opened it like normal. "Can I help you gentlemen?" Robert asked, shortly before he felt a small metal object up to his next. One of the agents placed a taser on his neck and clicked it on, sending 50,000 volts through Robert's neck. Robert screamed in pain shortly before being knocked out and collapsing to the ground, his head lying on the porch step. "Lets get him out of here." Both of the agents grabbed and arm and drug Robert into the limousine. He was tossed in without care as the agents sat in across from him.

The car sped off into the morning sun, driving recklessly, which tossed Robert back and forth across the leather seating. Robert slowly woke up, just in time for the car to take a sharp right turn and smash Robert's head into a shot glass "Ow... what the heck is this all about? Why am I not back in bed with my wife?" One of the agents took off his glasses and stared Robert directly in the face "Mr Hurst, we have an order from the President of the United States that requires your military expertise." Robert folded his arms and pondered what the agent told him. "You mean my time in the Navy SEALS? What would the President need me for? I was just a soldier, and everything was just fine until you guys came along" Robert stated with disgust.

The other agent handed Robert a manila folder "Here, you should read this.... We're pulling you back in for another mission. Top Secret of course, we don't want the American public catching light of this." Robert flipped open the folder to find several pages classified material. Photos, blueprints, everything considered top secret was in there, including several pictures of animals. Tigers and dogs, eagles and cats, rhinos and elephants, these pictures were intermittently scattered throughout the report. "So, what's up with all the animals? Are we like, doing some sort of mission with them? Or is there something I'm missing?"

"We can't actually tell you that information Mr Hurst, it's classified even beyond our standards. Now we have to inform you, we can't let you know where we're going." Both agents looked at each other and nodded before pulling out gas masks and strapping them on "Wait, why can't you let me see where we're going? Isn't it bad enough that I'm being pulled out of official leave without my consent?" Robert asked sternly, clenching his hand into a fist. The agent to his right flipped a small switch, sending sleeping gas throughout the rear section of the limousine. Robert was knocked out instantly, and fell unconscious onto the floor of the car.

(The next chapters will come intermittently whenever I finish them, this is more to set you into the mood however, so yeah, I plan on making a full blown novel out of this. Several of the people on the site will make a cameo of some kind, with a select few being full characters. Hope you like it :D)

I liked it Challenger, but isn't the whole Military kidnapping people they need a little overdone? I mean especially the part in the car were they gas him they would just have the cars glasses tinted so he couldn't see where they were going.

Is this HP or PF fanfic? If not, it should go into the 'media median' subforum, methinks.

"Alone time."
Funny.
Anyway this is promising, but if it's not a PF/HP fanfic, move it to media median like Val said. If you move it there, it will just be a story...

For general information purposes, telling someone to move a thread they've posted won't work, 'cause that's not a part of the member tool set. You actually have to have moderator permissions for that. ;3

And I did. I sent you a message Dissension :P They were advising that I move it because that section is more appropriate. So I will ask you here then. Can you kindly move it to the Media Median section? Thank you. :D

Chapter 2
Robert awoke in the limousine and was forced against the back seat by the agents in the car. He felt something over his face and a small rope tied to his neck. He knew he had been bagged, for purposes of not needing to see where he would be going. He was then flipped over and handcuffed. Robert was then escorted out of the car by the agents, who each had one hand on his shoulders. Robert felt like he walked for miles before finally coming to a stop. He was turned around as he heard a Ding! and felt the room shake a bit. He was in an elevator, heading downward, for what seemed like five straight minutes. Robert breathed heavily, his knees shaking from hunger. Finally the elevator stopped and Robert was once again escorted out into another room. He could hear others talking, so this must have been some sort of meeting room. Dear god once this ordeal is over somebody's going to be getting an earful from me Robert thought to himself. He was then set into a chair and had the bag removed from his head and his handcuffs removed. Robert looked over at the agents "Dang, you guys are rough..." He said giving the agents a glare.

Robert looked across the table adorned with the seal of the President of the United States. There were others sitting at the table as well, one in a business suit, some bloody and beaten from putting up a fight, and others simply disgruntled from being forcefully taken from home. Suddenly a set of doors opened to the right of Robert, two guards standing next to the doors turned and saluted the figure approaching from the door. Robert was unsure who it was at first, but over heard another person say "Locke" from across the table. Wait a minute, President Locke? Well that makes sense for the table, and what the agents in the car said Robert pondered this thought and still wondered why the President was in the room.

"Gentlemen" The President spoke softly "I have called you all here today because our country is in grave danger." One of the other members of the table spoke up in a cocky tone "Danger? Man ain't that some crazy talk.... The heck you talking 'bout old man? Our nation's perfect right now! I mean we've got that problem with Russia making their nukes but that ain't nothing to get started over." The man looked over at the others at the table, who were all now giving him a glare, the sort of "What the heck did you just say?" glare.

The President looked over at the young man "Son, not everything that happens in the world makes the headline news. We're sending each and every one of you far behind enemy lines, but there's a twist." Robert looked on, intrigued by what could be coming next. Locke continued "We're giving each of you the genetic make-up from an animal. This will genetically alter you and improve your human performance on the field. Some of you will be swifter, faster, more precise, others will have sheer brute strength and will." Robert thought about this for a second "And what if we refuse to partake in this, huh? What happens then?" Locke looked at Robert "Then we will simply drag you out to the desert, put a bullet in your head and then find the next person in line to do it for us. Or, you can cooperate and be a more ferocious soldier. Just sign on the dotted line." In one motion, each of the guards in the room placed a contract in front of each of the soldier's faces and set on the table. Robert and the others skimmed over the contract, with Robert being the last to sign. He was still having doubts, he just wanted to go home, sleep in bed with his wife. Finally Robert signed, and slid his down to the end of the table.

Locke took the stack and smiled. "Perfect, we'll have you going before you know it, but for now, we've set up rooms to accommodate you while you go through your alterations." Robert gulped at the thought of being altered, but then again, being faster and stronger wouldn't be too bad." I also forgot to mention, we're limited on space, so you'll be bunking with another member here. You've been predesignated to your assigned living quarters." Locke spoke softly as not to put the recruits on edge. Robert rolled his eyes and stood up from the chair "Are we done now? It's been a long day." Locke responded "Yes, your orientation here is over, you can go get situated." Robert started to leave the room, with one of the guards escorting him to his quarters, as everyone else at the table did the same.

Robert finally reached the room, to his surprise it was two separate beds, nothing more. The walls were plain white, and the only other outstanding thing from the room was a chest at the foot of the bed. The door closed behind Robert as he examined the room. He walked over to the chest, knelt down at it and opened it to find several pairs of uniforms inside it, all with the name "Goldie" on the name patch. "Huh... that must be my room mate, Goldie huh? Alright then." He walked over to the other half of the room, which was about a one step difference, and sat on his bed. "Of course, feels just like flipping boot camp, crappy beds. Typical." Robert continued to look around the room when the door opened, as another man walked into the room. "You must be Goldie" Robert stood up and offered his hand to shake "Name's Hurst. What branch did they drag you from?" The door closed behind Goldie as he firmly gripped Robert's hand "Yeah, you got it, I'm from the Air Force. I'm kind of a counter intelligence specialist, I used to hack computers just before I joined." Goldie then sat on the bed and looked around the room "Pretty bleak, but then again, it's not a four star hotel either, heh" A knock came from the door as Goldie and Hurst turned toward it. The door opened 2 inches, just enough for someone to fit their hand in it. A voice also came from just outside the door. "Lights out gentlemen, you've got a lot of work tomorrow." The person's hand slipped in and flicked the light off. Shortly after, Goldie fell asleep, while Hurst stared silently at the ceiling before dozing off to sleep.

Ok time for some corrections Challenger:

(He could hear others talking, so this must've been some sort of meeting room.) Must've is not a word it should be two separate ones not a contraction.
(but over heard another person say "Locke" across the table.)This should be from across the table
(other's at the table) should just be others there is no need for a contraction
(You've been pre-designated to your assigned living quarters.) There is no dash in predesignated
Whats the point of having them sign the contracts? If they are just going to kill them if they refuse a verbal agreement would suffice heck they wouldn't even need that.
In my opinion things go by a little to fast take time to flesh things out more your too "Telly" not enough "Showy"

Other then that I told you every thing else in IRC keep it up

Chapter 3

6 AM. The room was still pitch black as a knock came from the door. "Rise and shine ladies, you've got work to do, but before that, breakfast." Hurst rolled out of bed and stumbled to where he thought the door was and felt around for the light switch. He flicked it on, sending a neon glow shining brightly into the room. Robert quickly squinted his eyes for a moment, allowing them to adjust to the light. Goldie slowly woke up, lazily rolling out of bed. Robert opened his chest and put on one of his uniforms, a mix between the Army's uniform and a sort of fur pattern. "Hey Goldie, get up, food." Robert buttoned up his shirt and pat Goldie on the face a few times. Robert went back to his chest and pulled up a pair of pants just as Goldie was waking up. "D-Dang, I forgot what it was like to wake up at 6. Sucks." Goldie went over to his chest, opened it and noticed the uniforms. "What's up with the full black print? Any particular reason?" Goldie looked at Robert and asked. "Well, I couldn't tell you, not my uniform, mine's totally different, as you can tell." Robert swept his hands lightly over his uniform which was gray and black. "You think they're giving us designations? Like, rank and such?" Goldie asked. "I honestly don't know what the heck they're doing with us, but if we have different uniforms, it clearly means something" Robert replied. Goldie opened the door to find a guard standing outside, waiting for the two to leave. "Gentlemen, the mess hall is down to the left, you'll find your meals there" The guard stated with a straight face. Hurst and Goldie looked at each other and shrugged. "Can't be anything wrong with a little breakfast eh?" Goldie asked. Robert made a slow nodding motion, considering that he was still half asleep. When he fell asleep, he dreamt he was back home with his wife. Shanna made Robert breakfast in bed, eggs, french toast and bacon. But right when he started to eat his dream breakfast, the light came on. Robert turned to Goldie as the walked down the hall "Why is it that every time I have good dream, right when I get to the good part, I always wake up? Goldie looked back at Robert "It's probably some sort of psychological aspect... I wouldn't know, I see the world in ones and zeros. That's what happens when you hack as many computers as I do. I'll bet I could crack any computer in this facility, given 2 minutes." Goldie smiled at that last sentence, considering he nearly infiltrated the Pentagon's server in 45 minutes.

Robert and Goldie eventually reached the mess hall, a large room lined with tables with guards at every entrance. Several of the people from yesterday were already eating, some conversing amongst themselves. Goldie and Robert walked to a table with two trays side by side and one other person sitting across from the trays. They both sat down and started eating. Robert read the name patch of the man across from him, it read "Galifer." Robert pondered that name If nothing else, it's different at least Goldie looked up and spoke up "So Galifer, where'd they drag you in from?" Galifer wasn't paying attention until he heard his name, he was oblivious to anybody even sitting at the table. He looked up and replied "Oh, from the Marine Corps. Nothing special." Galifer took the fork in his hand and jabbed it into the potatoes on his tray. Goldie looked over at Robert and then back to Galifer "What's up dude? You really angry or something? You stabbed that potato pretty hard" Goldie said. Galifer looked back at Goldie and replied "Oh, sorry, I just have a problem if I don't have my knife with me.... of course they stripped me of it when I came in here." Robert caught the knife bit and responded "So, what? You're like, a combat specialist? Highly trained with a knife? Lots of melee stuff?"

Robert really hoped he was, he always thought it was good to have a close quarter combat specialist in the group. "Yeah, I was, I've taken down at least 40 people with my trusty knife, it's saved my butt on several occasions" Galifer replied. Robert was really pleased that at least someone in the mess hall had some dignity left in them. Goldie ate a bit more before having a side thought and spoke to Robert and Galifer "Hey, did you guys actually read over that contract they had us sign? I thought I saw something weird on it." Robert and Galifer both perked up as Robert replied "What kind of weird stuff? Like, did you catch anything about the animal bit?" Goldie responded "Well, not that, I saw the word grafting in there out of the corner of my eye. You think it's more than what they told us in the car?" Galifer spun the fork in his hand "Honestly, I don't care, as long as I get back home fine, I don't really care what the heck they have us do, what they do to us, or where we go."

"Breakfast is over ladies! Your mission briefing starts now!" One of the guards yelled out from one of the doors. "Well, it looks like we're finally going to see what we're all doing here eh?" Robert said. Goldie and Galifer had finished up the last of their food and stood up from the table. Robert stood up soon after started walking toward the door that the guard was standing at. Galifer and Goldie walked behind Robert, following closely. The three walked down a new hallway, the walls had pictures of animals every three feet, with every animal imaginable, even several hybrids that they have never heard about. Goldie joked briefly "You think is meeting's got something to do with the animals?" Goldie, Robert and Galifer eventually reached a door at the end of the hall. Robert opened it to find a classroom style setting. There was a projector screen at the front that was lit by a projector in the middle of the room which read "Project: Furry Warrior." "Take a seat anywhere you like gentlemen, your briefing will begin shortly" A dark figure said from the back of the room. Robert and Goldie sat in the front of the room, while Galifer sat one row behind them. The other members of the group slowly funnelled in from the mess hall. When everyone was finally in the room and seated, the dark figured spoke up "Alright, now we can begin."

Okay guys... I've been taking a week long break to refresh my mind back to the novel... you find that the more you deal with the military, the harder it is to write about them... ironic, I know. Anyway, Chapter 4 is coming along, should (hopefully) be posted by tonight?

Finally... after much wait, Chapter four is done. and here it is, for all to see, A few characters (might) have made an appearance :D

The shrouded came out from behind the darkness and introduced himself. "I am Admiral Conwell, but you all already knew that. Lets just get right into it, we are using each and every one of you in a mission deemed to risky for normal troops." Hurst thought over that last bit and put it in the back of his mind "Too dangerous... what makes you think it's any safer for us?" Conwell continued "Our main objective is to enhance every single one of you, as Locke may have told you. What we're basically going to do is this." Conwell took the small remote in his hand and tapped a button to advance the presentation to the next slide. "Some of our troops are already out in the field as you can see." The slide showed four troops, but the soldiers in the room noticed something shockingly different... the four troops looked like dogs, but still bi-pedal, each holding an M16 and wearing lightweight body armor, their faces extended like muzzles and their ears on the top of their head, perked up. Goldie spoke up "Wait... that looks like the stuff my kid likes, it's called like, anthro-something or other. I thought that was just, like, a group of kids who liked the idea of their animals being human." Conwell smirked and replied "Well, that was where our idea came from, but we wanted to use that animal ability to make you all better... You see, right now, Russia has a contract to transport nuclear weapons to China, who are, at this very moment, stockpiling them. What we're going to do is inject animal DNA into your genetic make-up, which will cause one major alteration... fur. This will keep you warm in the cold environment on the Russian-Chinese border. The other bit of the animals are for balance and swiftness. You see, the tail, the ears and the muzzle are all going to be grafted upon you to further enhance your skills." Goldie smirked and whispered to Hurst "Told you I saw the word 'grafting' in that contract." Conwell continued "You will be out of here in two weeks, the first week will consist of your alterations, the second, making sure you're used to your new body. We can't have you in the snow not knowing your balance limits." Galifer was in the back, twiddling a pencil in his hand, not even paying attention. He just wanted his knife back, almost to the point where he'd stab Conwell to have it back, or whoever was guarding it.

Conwell motioned to one of his guards "Elliot, grab me a cup of coffee will you?" The guard nodded and walked into another door, quickly returning with a hot cup of coffee. "Thank you Elliot. Now then" Conwell continued "Today you will receive your first injection, with several more to come in the coming days." Doctors Herbstrien and Nixul will be monitoring the tests and your progress, though they are just overseeing the process. If you would please walk with them to the Alteration Chamber, your first...official.. work for the government will begin." Conwell motioned the guards to progress everyone in the room outward, as everyone stood up and promptly left their seats. As the group walked down the hall, Goldie tapped Hurst on the shoulder "Do you think this is going to be like the movies where they inject those drills into your head and alter you that way? Or do you think it will be more along the lines of just regular injections?" Hurst looked back at Goldie "Honestly, I don't know, you think I work here? Come on dude." As each group member took a seat outside the door, Goldie, Hurst and Galifer took the last three seats in the row, just see could see what they were dealing with.

One by one the soldiers went in, but Hurst noticed, they never came out the same door. "Okay, is this a good thing or a bad thing? They go in, don't come, or wait a minute" Hurst thought to himself as one of the members came out the door, he leaned against the wall, his head hanging low before he fell off and passed out on the floor. Goldie looked on in shock and turned to Galifer "This can mean only one of three things. One, they gave him too much of whatever it was. Two, Those injections are actually meant to kill us. Or three, that dude was just a wimp and couldn't handle the injections. I'm putting my money on three." Galifer replied "Yeah, I'd bet that too." Two medics came out of the room and put the man on a stretcher and took him far away from the Chamber, down the hall and out of sight.

After several minutes, Hurst was the one waiting outside the door. A doctor called out from the room "NEXT!" Hurst thought to himself "Okay then, this is the moment of truth." Hurst walked into the room to see a table full of needles, something in the 20 range, filled to the brim with liquids. One of the doctors closed the door and asked "So, your name?" Hurst replied "Robert Hurst, am I going to be taking ALL of those? At once? Isn't this a little much?" The doctor looked over the list, not even paying attention to what Hurst was saying. The doctor mumbled "Hurst, Hurst. Ah yes, Hurst, Robert. Hmm, uh, actually, we've got something special for you. You're getting more than what's one the table. Please, come this way. Hurst was lead to a back room where a surgical table was placed in the center of the room. Above the table, there was also a machine with needles poking out of every direction imaginable. "Okay? So am I getting that big thing up there to inject a whole load of needles into me?" Nixul then walked into the room "Oh Mr. Hurst, I'm glad I caught you before you received your injections. And yes, you pretty much called it. If you could please lie down on the table, well will begin your modification shortly. Hurst lied down on the table, staring up into the machine. "Hurst, I need you to scoot back just a hair" Nixul said with a thick German accent. Hurst nudged backwards as Nixul commented again "Good, perfect. Okay, die maschine starten, jetzt." He said to the operator. Slowly the machine lowered itself from the ceiling and was soon hovering just inches above Hurst's head. Immediately, he noticed that there were two needles facing each other, on opposite sides of where his head would be. "Uh, Doc? Are those going into my head?" Nixul replied "Oh yes, yes they are." Hurst mumbled to himself "Well Goldie, looks like you freaking called it."

And... I just shuddered a bit.
I love the story. Would you kinda classify this a Sci-Fi? (My favorite type of fiction :))
Sigma (Σ) (Male Tabby Cat)
Dark Sigma (Σ) (Feral and Black version of Sigma)
Frostbyte (Male Alaskan Wolf)
This is how I came up with Sigma

Yeah, I'd definitely call it that.... and if you shuddered, then I take it that's a good thing and I'm doing it right.
