Thank you for the game, Obbl! Have a good evening, and I hope we'll play a rematch again later? Maybe tomorrow, I'm off to bed now. Bye!

*comes back after short absence*

Ahh, now let's see what they've been up-*! Ack! Check mate already! Wow!

Okay. A new game can start Monday. Sides reset!

Remember, you don't have to know how to play chess to play! If you can follow along and know the piece moves, go ahead and pick one and move it! (provided, it's that colors turn and it follows it's move set) That way anybody can play and it'll keep things interesting! I'm thinking about posting the piece moves in the main rule post to help new players. See ya'll Monday!

@Broken Fox: Your notation seems to be fine. You might also want to add the fact that you are Castling to the move set. (like you did)

Some Stats:
Winner: Black!
White pieces taken: /////////
Black pieces taken: ////////
White in check: //
Black in check: /

Count me in! :) Also I realize me and Obbl might have stolen the spotlight from the multiplayer aspect of this game, I promise I'll dial back a little. :? Though maybe it might prove useful that we played the first game... If there's anyone who wants to join and they know the valid moves but they're unsure of how to actually play the game, don't worry! Here's a little exercise to get a feel for the game: Find a good ol' fashioned chess board (there should be one at home, ask your parents if necessary! :) ), a chess program (Windows has one, for example) or a chess app for your smartphone/tablet if you happen to have one of those (I recommend Chess for Android, for Android). Set up the pieces on the board (consult xhunterko's Wikipedia link if necessary) or set the program to human vs human player mode. Then go through this thread and play along with the game I played with Obbl. See how we moved our pieces, what we tried to achieve or prevent and that should give you a basic idea how to make moves. After that, come and join the fun on Monday! ;)

Well the most straightforward thing would be to use algebraic notation, but that would just scare away everyone! :P And I have a little amendment to the stats, if I may: The game lasted 29 moves, and it didn't actually end with a check mate. White resigned.

And just in case people were wondering why white resigned:
No matter what move white makes next (in order to get out of check), black takes white's rook.
Again, no matter what white does next, black takes the white pawn (the one trying to reach the other side for promotion)
At that point, black has a queen and a rook for use in checkmating the king, and white has a stuck bishop and a few basically useless pawns.
Ergo, white resigns ;)

Sorry to interrupt, but I just wanted to say that The Grey Labyrinth, a puzzle forum I'm on, has these awesome [chess] tags that many people like to use, and they should be implemented on every forum ever where even one chess game gets played. First you type [chess], then the moves that have been made, using algebraic notation, and then [/chess]. For instance, [chess]d4 Nc6[/chess]. Often, the first post in the thread will be made by a separate account to which both players have the password, so that either player may edit the post to add the new move. Each player, of course, also makes an ordinary post to announce his move.

For people who'd rather post chess problems where the board is set up a specific way than play chess, we even have [chessboard] tags! Just put the board in Forsythe-Edwards Notation and surround it with [chessboard] tags. For example, [chessboard]rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR[/chessboard] generates the initial board set-up.

Enough of my yapping, though. I really don't play chess. My mind can't strategize so far ahead.

Well the reason we agreed on simple human readable notation (as in, anyone can understand the move we make, without prior knowledge of any official notations) was to make this a multiplayer game for anyone, no matter what level they're at. Sadly, it looks like only me, xhunterko, and Obbl are interested. When I saw your name as the last poster, I was so happy for a moment that someone else joined... :( I know I could have written Bd4 for my last move, and we could use chess forum tags if they were available, but that would scare away people even more!

Hello Mathgrant! Thanks for the suggestion, but what the broken fox practically said. The reason I kept this simple is so that anyone can join. Even you! It's not that hard to follow, just grab a chess game and match the moves on the forums on the board. We wouldn't mind if you joined though. If you know the piece rules(which, i'm pretty sure you do) just pick a side, grab a piece and take a turn! Speaking of turns:
