The Musical Side of You
Hey this is where you can talk about the musical side of you, as in instruments you play or want to learn to play.
I play the piano, and really want to learn to play drums!!

Re: The Musical Side of You
I play guitar, cello, and electric bass. I pretend to play piano and drums.
...I wish I had the money for an electric cello.

Re: The Musical Side of You
Violin, since...4th grade. That's a total of about 8 years. Now, if I actually practiced, I'd be a master. However, I don't. XD I'm pretty darn good though. Latest thing I'm working on is "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."
I played guitar for a couple of months, and then fell off of it.
I'm trying to learn drums, but I'm falling off of that too. >_<
Can't play piano, but I can memorize tunes on it. Like Jumper or The Chochobo song.
Future plans: Get myself a pickup for my violin, so that electric guitar amp gets some more use... (on that note, Icharus, you can buy an electric pickup for a stringed instrument. Might not be as top quality as a real electric stringed instrument, but it's far cheaper.)

I don't have a musical side. D: I wanted to learn the piano but my parents couldn't afford one.

I play the drums a little bit, but nothing serious. I do play bass and sing in my school's rock band. It's a lot of fun.

I play drums and that's all :\ Rusty from not being around drums for periods up to 6 months at a time due to studies.
Re: The Musical Side of You
This I know, thank you. It's just not the same imo.Buckdida wrote:Icharus, you can buy an electric pickup for a stringed instrument. Might not be as top quality as a real electric stringed instrument, but it's far cheaper.)
I myself tried to learn The Devil Went Down to Georgia, a couple weeks ago in fact. Progress is slow.
Re: The Musical Side of You
Look at that, like, almost everyone playing drums!
For me, percussion is not my thing. Give me any kind of string instrument any day, and I can basically play it.
Cello, violin, viola, double bass, guitar (not well), bass (much better), mandolin, whatever... but I only listed common ones so.
In theory, keyed instruments (yes I know that is not a 'real' group of instruments) like the piano, harpsichord, and (obviously) the keyboard are easy enough to play but in practise I fumble over my fingers, so I don't quite count it. That is to say, with practise, I can play pieces. It's not turning paper to sound, it's getting my fingers to go where they're meant to when they're meant to. I can't sit down and clang out a tune and then clang out a different one immediately after it (unless I have practised doing so). It's kind of weird to me, that I can't do that.
On the other hand, I can do that on string instruments. Not like it's an achievement to do so, it just amuses me that I can't when it comes to key stuff.
I enjoy using my voice a LOT but I do not consider myself good at it. Strange note: Half the people who have heard it love it and the other half are like yeah okay you can stop now i think i get the picture.

Re: The Musical Side of You
Well, my specialty is the euphonium (and the similar baritone horn, if you classify them separately).
I can also play trombone, snare drum, keyboard (and presumably piano, though I have never done this outside of my music classes), and the ubiquitous recorder that virtually every American student plays at some point in their educational careers. Please note that I do not include the term 'well.'
The most interesting thing that's been said about my voice is "That does not sound like it came out of you!" which I have never been sure how to take.

You and your brass.
I never could get into brass, even if I consider myself "able".
Woodwind I simply can't. Unable.

Re: The Musical Side of You
i have been playing guitar for about a year now and i think for a relative novice im not too bad.
i also sing pretty well and i can span octaves with relative ease (lets say from like Roy Orbison to Thom Yorke's highest pitched voice).

Re: The Musical Side of You
I used to play Trumpet from 6th to just a week ago, but quit because it no longer interested me.
I want to learn how to play the piano and the violin maybe, but piano is definitely my main interest.
Oh and I also play a mean Kazoo. Yeah. Fear my kazoo skills.

When I'm not jamming out on my pencils, brushes or tablet...I play piano. I've been playing for about two years now so I'm not that bad. I had to teach myself via the internet due to low budgets.

Also, I'm currently learning to play the guitar. Still a beginner, but I'm advancing fast at it.

Well, I've been learning how to play Piano for the last... month and a half I think... The reason being that I wanted to play the Saxophone, but had interest in playing either Piano or Saxophone. we already had a electric Piano (Right next to the computer in fact) so my I agreed to play the Piano for a while and if I stuck with it I could eventually learn Saxophone.
so yeah, fear my ability to play "The grandfather clock"

Re: The Musical Side of You
Coincidently, i helped a good friend of mine picking up his drum set from his old location yesterday (80 minuet drive, arg).
now we have 2 drum sets, 2 electric Guitars, a Mic and 1 bas Guitar.
(I will try to upload a picture)
I am just playing the bas every once in a while, because i suck.
But my friends are giving some great tips and this week I'm planning to practice drumming (seeing as we got 2 drums now, it works great)
I gave my friends a classic Guitar for Christmas, because the old one broke, -_-'
O, and we have a keyboard for ages 4 and up, and you would be amazed how entertaining it is to hear Beethoven played on it.
(basically, i suck, everyone around me is good with instruments)

Re: The Musical Side of You
You people and your instruments and non-dorky hobbies.
I don't play instruments, because I'm not cool. I just compose NES music using a tracker program. I mean, that's not cool or an accomplishment at all. Not like playing a mean kazoo or mean drums or an actual instrument is cool and an accomplishment. I have won an award at Abilene Christian University's annual FilmFest for composing the score of this short film about a guy who stays up too late playing Mario and has a weird dream, though. Does that count as an accomplishment?
