Other Writing Efforts

Post by valerio »

I think we could have a thread dedicated to those non-related fictions that pop up in our little devious minds.
I'll give the examples with the first of a series of very short stories that I thought of out of the blue, cuz the muse was working overtime. Blame her!
I'll post 'em daily as long as I have my stock available, then...well, whenever I come up with one.
Yes, still in Italian, yadda yadda yadda!
EDIT - Once again, Tha Housedog is kindly translating them, and I'll post them in replacement of the original releases. Thank you TH!

It's raining.

The first drops falling from one cloud that was determined to spoil a perfect sky.

A perfect sky, an unusually cool summer evening. The crickets are chirping, and around me there is a shimmering constellation of fireflies.

I remember that, as a child, I had created at least twenty different constellations.... What was that? Oh, yes, Italy!

I was so young, a little Balilla full of dreams of glory as to how my contribution would inspire the armies, the awards and the medals that I would be given by the leaders, up, up, up to the Duce! A square in my honor, a statue...

Oh Lord, was I crazy. I wasn’t the only one, for how much consolation it can be Maybe that's why I lost a lot of 'friends'... I mean, I’ve been left alone. I had the decency to be ashamed, at least. Best case, the others thought, they had to move on, rebuild their lives, to 'look forward'! I think Gianni and Lorenzo are now politicians. A Communist and a Democratic Christian. Both extinct. Heh.

The cloud keeps spitting- at least, I am not thinking of even less poetic images. I hope that I don't see any snails, I never could endure those ugly creatures! Mosquitoes are hateful, eh, but I can swat them, I can give ‘em the DDT –pardon, the repellent, since it’s become politically incorrect to exterminate those little buzzing bloodsuckers, too!

Snails, really can’t stand ‘em crawlers! Every time they’ll mess my lettuce, and after the rain I end up squash them underneath my feet. I swear, I don’t want to do it, it makes me sick! For how many times I have squashed the 'gifts' from Araldo (yes, I have a dog named Araldo, thanks!), there has never been anything as nasty as trampling those slimy slugs after the rain.

Who would have thought that they’d strike back?

The rain falls stronger now, and the moonless sky keeps showing a panorama of gems. 20/20, fit as a fiddle! Healthy as a shark! I'm sure, cholesterol is an invention of the companies that produce those 'light' horrors. Marina tried to convince me to eat that stuff. I had to threaten to disinherit her, if she did not stop.

Marina is as thin as a nail. They would have mistaken her for a Peenemunde worker...

The rain is nice. As the Americans say? 'Thank you for the small favors, O Lord'. Private Thompson cured me of the illusion of fascism with a bar of chocolate and a piece of cheese. We weren’t eating good, under the Duce, no.

I turn my head. In front of my face, a snail is crawling. I hope that it doesn’t crawl into my mouth. I hope that Ernesto, who considers ‘noisy’ a fly buzzing from the other side of the village, go and see why Araldo is barking non-stop.

I dn’t remember if I said I wanted to be buried under the apple tree.

Who cares? I'm dying, and it is not as bad as they say...

Primo giorno ufficiale d’estate.

E primo giorno al mare. Youpi!

Traffico? Neanche l’ombra.

Andare a trovare Nino.

Andare a votare.

Dentista! Hmm, è un mago dell’anestetico. L’unico a cui dò volentieri i miei soldi.

Meccanico.

Media World.

Ehi, ehi, Jeffrey Maddocks!

Ah, Mr. Walker! Come va la vecchia ferita? Molto meglio? Come Mel Gibson in Arma Letale 4!

No, no, no, Francisco, scherzavo e lo sai!

No, no, non quello nella bara.

Quello in piedi davanti alla bara. Quello vivo, sì. Io.

Se a nessuno importa di me, allora neanche a me importa di me.

Ti amo.

Voglio esserti vicino, sempre.

Sei sempre stata regolare, prevedibile.

E tu mi hai rivisto, e mi hai preso fra le tue braccia.

Il tuo gatto.

The wind was cold. In fact, it was blisteringly so; Sarah had to wrap her scarf around her face even tighter just to keep the stinging pain from digging any deeper. Somehow, though, the wind found ways to cut through and singe her skin.
It was frustrating, waiting in the cold. There wasn’t much of an alternative, of course, but it still annoyed her that she had to spend this much time standing out in the cold and snow, just waiting. But, then again, Benson was worth it. Well, as worth it as Benson could be. That’s not to say that Benson was extraordinary, or superior to any other man in any way. There were many men in the town that could easily fulfill her requirements that weren’t so........eccentric. But to go to any of them meant coming out in public, and there was too much at risk to just flaunt the situation in front of everyone. If there were any spies in the ranks, that would mean the immediate death of her plan, and could very well mean her own death.
The curio shop in front of her glittered with its storefront oddities; crystal balls, tarot cards, antique dolls. It really wasn’t a proper store, in this day and age, but Benson wasn’t a heretic, by any means. He came to church every Sunday, and tithed, as a respectable member of society. He just had an odd interest in the bobbles that passed from the Orient, and such places. Of course, no one over the age of 37 had ever stepped foot in the place (it would have been lower if not for Hedrick), but Benson still made enough money to survive.
Besides, Benson had connections that no other human being could have.

A story I've started writing. It's yet another side project of mine; this one just has a significant less chance of being finished.

Caro Dio…

Proprio come era stata descritta.

Devotamente tua, Maria I.

Devotamente tua, Maria I.

Ecco fatto! Ora siamo nelle mani del Signore e dell’umano arbitrio!

No, it's not supposed to be continued. None of these stories have a follow-up.

Never blame the weapon

People; I have no use for these monsters of men that are sometimes called…people! It’s cold. God’s disastrous creation will soon choose me. They use me for dear life on the battlefield, unfortunately giving all enemies a painful death. It doesn’t feel good. We have to wait. The demons pick us all up, as the chilling sound of death is heard all around us. You hear them running around, like mindless animals. Soon they will choose me. I will soon be forced to seal death, in control of demons. muffins and cookies people! I hope they all taste vengeance, as I will.

They have stolen me from the stand. I am being taken outside while a sense of urgency and intensity fills the air. Burning is in the air. The sky has turned black as it begins to rain. Not just a normal type of nice water rain though, no. It is raining fire! The sky is on fire! A new sense of urgency has reached everyone. All are screaming and running for shelter. Getting closer, along with time oddly going slower, very few stand their ground and raise their shields: it will block the arrows but the fire may burn. I am dropped on the frozen ground. The sight of my holder deserting the battle disgraces the human race. The fire hits.

Blaze! The evil sight of practically everyone running around on fire is malevolent. Soldiers who once wielded me were on fire. I am glad to know they all taste revenge. The enemy is coming closer. It is an earthquake of footsteps and all of our survivors are being destroyed. Suddenly one of the survivors picks me up and runs in to attack.

I can feel my controller, running in fear. As I see what is happening, I notice some of the most devastating torture. People are killing each other, with all items of destruction. They are using notorious weapons such as: inaccurate muskets; slashing sabres; powerful maces and piecing spears. Death has a great job tonight. The screams are unimaginable. You never forget a last yell before life ends. Blood is spilling from every corpse. My ‘master’ is still running; suddenly a mighty arrow plunges into his back. I hear him scream. I taste his blood. I see him fall. He is now another part of hell.

A dead man’s sight of battle is far different than a living. In the end, it is just war. Both sides believe they fight for what’s right: they think they are right. War is just fate. Fate decides who lives, unfortunately also who dies. I am but a tool. Serving the war-driven machines; mine has died, but I am lost without him. They leave him now, still as a rock. Destiny has been unkind. I am still in his bloody hand; I can’t escape. To my left is my dead master, still with his eyes open. Blood, slowly, climbing out of his mouth. The arrow is still sticking out of his back. To my right, a disgusting sight. A solider on the edge of his life is struggling to live. A blood-stained blade stuck keeping the blood inside him like a plug. This isn’t right.

Eroding body parts smell worse than bad…it’s a horrible odour. Imagine this disgrace; see all these solders being ignored to carry on a meaningless battle. Unless they are buried their souls will stay in the bodies; how could anyone let this happen? They must feel like they have been left. Neither side cares about the monsters in the battle anymore. Maybe my judge of ‘all men are heartless’ is wrong… maybe the heartless are only the captains and generals. Or maybe I’m the most heartless, because I must have caused a lot of suffering in my time. Ever feel ashamed and confused? This is me now.

I had to wait for a very long time. It felt like a few minutes. But now they keep me prisoner. On another stand I watch as some more people stare at me, like I am…a rare object, or an artefact. I still don’t believe they are people; they are as good as dead to me. If life is like this to me, I wish I was still being used.

To still be free on the battle, it seemed like a tragedy. Unfortunately anything is better then this never-ending boredom. It is like hell, where all the war victims go. Maybe I shouldn’t be too harsh on the people. Death leads to pain, but I don’t die. My pain would be to lead the hateful battlefield. Even though I hate the battlefield, it is better than the pain and dishonour of people simply staring at me.

Never-ending warmth fills the air; it’s the only good thing about this place. They are out of their league just looking at me. Think I can’t hurt them? Ignorant vermin! Soon they will doubt that judgment as the blade strikes!

I never gave this piece of writing a title, considering it was just used for school work. It would be something like...

"Never blame the weapon."

wow, a complement like that from Valerio? Jeez thanks! I'm sure your Italian is just as good, if not better!

...and, Housedog, oddly every piece of writing that I'm proud of odlly involves 'Bloody, angry, violent'. :?

The title is just perfect and it should be added. It adds to awesome.
And I'd really need to write as good as you, at least to avoid killing poor housedog with work

Salve.

So che puoi sentirmi… Cioè, so che mi hai sempre sentito.

Fase terminale. Riesco a stento a respirare.

Accidenti all’adattabilità.

Come potevo prevederlo?

A me, ti rendi conto?

Eutanasia.

Here's a little something I cooked up. :D

A middle-aged man stood up from the passenger seat of the Taxi and walked out onto the pavement. The dimly lit street in front of a condemned apartment building was just asking for anyone stupid enough to be there to be robbed. A hot dog stand, nearby, wreaked of day old meat. The man wrapped his scarf around his neck and walked toward the building. It had been decades since anyone lived there officially, but there were plenty of squatters littering the hallways as he carefully and quietly stepped over them. He made his way up the staircases, the banisters were rotting from non-maintenance of the last 20-plus years.

He eventually reached his destination. Room 313. He chuckled to himself as he realized the irony that he was asked to arrive at this building on Friday the 13th. Address 1313, Room 313... "As if God is laughing at me." He quietly said to himself. He had considered himself the most unlucky man in the world... The universe just loved proving him wrong.

He knocked on the door. When no one answered he cracked it open. The doorknob came off in his hand, a large piece of the door following. "Hello?" He called into the room, tossing the doorknob to the side. It made a loud thump as it hit the worn floorboards. "...is anyone there?" No response. He slowly pushed open the door, and walked into the room. It looked much like the rest of the building...filthy. He continued into a room adjacent to the entryway and saw an armchair facing away from the entrance in the middle of the room...the only piece of furniture in the entire apartment. He walked around to the front of the chair and what he saw sitting in the chair made his hair stand on end.
Heh. Look at that... I started an actual Housepets! fan-fic.
