One-Offs Set #17: Wait, what?

Post by Dissension »

Well, this is the first comic I haven't gotten at all, but I'm assured this is basically what the book is about. At least I won't have to read it, now.

I was slightly amused, but couldn't really appreciate it fully since I never read it. Oh well.

Apparently the movie is in production. So once that comes out you can see it and then come back to the comic strip and get the joke.

I've read the book. I laughed, but not because of the punchline, but because I saw the obvious references of Rearden Metal and Taggart Transcontinental. I just thought it was funny.

That's not really how it ends. :P

Never read the book, but you have piqued my interest in the book. I shall buy it and read it now. If it is bad you will hear from me.

To be fair, Ayn Rand was somewhat of a character herself.

No, I haven't read the book, either. :P

Maybe some here just haven't hit that phase yet. If so, Rick has just jump-started everybody's descend into an insufferable jerk for a few months. >.>

My English class is a bit below that level.
Lets just say this comic is a good example for that the level almost IS.

The Atlas Shrugged movie better have Dagny wearing that dress like in this strip. It'd be perfect. She'll wear it the whole time, in every scene, ever.

She grew up in the Soviet Union and witnessed the initial collectivization. She was so traumatized that she formed Objectivism, which is an ultra-libertarian reaction to Communism. Communism, collectivism and socialism are frequent enemies of her novel heroes.

If you want a good start into her work, go for Anthem. It's in the public domain, so it's on Wikisource.

Nooooo, you'll spread it!!!

Also, once, in my Senior English class, we read Anthem as a class and then paired into groups to make up a society. There was one group who went out and made exactly the same society that existed in Anthem, and totally thought it was a great thing. It was like they did the project while having blocked out Anthem, which wasn't the point.

I tried to convince the teacher that if enough people expressed sympathy with the terrible social system in Anthem, that she should grade us on these projects by just averaging all the grades together, and to tell me she was going to do this so my group could turn in nothing.

On Topic: Um...I reiterate that I laughed? Also, that dress. It's funny all by itself.

Hey, kangaroos! I didn't expect to see them again. I guess they're not obligated to use those ridiculous accents on their time off.

Judging by the alt-text, I assume this is in some way related to the discounted Iron Artist commissions for kangaroos.

I'm sure he thinks like that all the time, but doesn't get to do much about it as a result of having a comic that revolves around pets and for some reason not getting many roo commissions.

I'm glad the desire and opportunity intersected for once. *laughs*
