Do you collect anything?

Post by Anthroguy101 »

I collect watches. I'm crazy about them. I have watches from Armitron, Timex, Wal*Mart, Merona, and Fossil (well, I used to, anyway). I also used to have a Casio watch or five. I'm still contemplating whether I should get a Wave Ceptor atomic watch.

I also like some of the watches that come from Dakota. I also find the "automatic" watch concept interesting.

My pet peeve: I usually only get watches with a "day-date" feature, unless there's something even more impressing about them (like the "automatic" winding, which I think is pretty cool).

Maybe I should start looking for and rounding up all the watches I have so I can take some of the broken ones to the jewelers.

Ticket stubs.

I'm also a digital hoarder. And a book hoarder. What I mean for the former is I go out of my way to get lots of stuff on my computer (books, comics, television shows, movies, games) and I'm loathe to ever delete anything I get even if I've seen/read/watched/played it or didn't like it, or later acquired it in a "solid" status (as is the case with almost every movie I have in this manner). I also have a large collection of images, things like wallpapers, miscellaneous art I thought looked cool, and...other stuff.

And books. I have a lot of books, more than my bookshelf can handle. So many books that outside of my bookshelf, books are all just spilled around the floor.

Old video games from the 90's and back.
There's nothing quite like the magic of those old 8-bit Nintendo games.
The beeps and bloops of the Atari 2600.
The "blast processing" on the Sega Genesis.
The amazing and revolutionary games on the SNES.
The monochrome masterpiece that is the Gameboy.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to blow the dust out of the contacts and reposition this game in the system a few hundred times.

I collect books now. I could be called a hoarder as well, since I have never thrown a book away in my life. This is just the only collection I have kept up with though. I used to collect gemstones, coins, pokemon cards, and miscellaneous shiny objects, but I got bored and stopped collecting halfway through. I still have all of those collections, so I guess I also collect collections  ..... huh. Weird. :|

I collect plushies, Magic cards and musical instruments, though that last collection is still not very big because they're costly. If you can call buying them and not getting rid of them collecting, then you could also say I collect books, movies and video games.

I have a ton of old Pokemon and Yugioh cards laying around in some folders.
From back in the day when I valued cardboard cutouts with stickers on them.

Wonder how many of you all went through that phase in your childhood.

I've got 3 binders full of old Pokémon cards. I think there's something to the tune of 3500 of them.

I have to find my collection of Yu-gi-oh cards, I had three binders full, one for regular cards, one for holographs, and one for first editions... I feel like a dork! I do have a plush collection now, I get them from crane games, six flags, as gifts, or just buy them at stores!

I tried to collect stuff when I was young, but I never gotten anywhere with any of my collections. I usually give up way too soon... >_>

I have some old coins from Taiwan, Singapore, and Indonesia. I also have around 500~ Pokemon cards and around 60~ Japanese Yugioh cards... And that's probably it.

I do have 2 Japanese Blue Eyes White Dragons and a Japanese Red Eyes Black Dragon though. :3

Wolf wrote:I have all 150 original pokemon cards. Including some from season 2.
There were 102 cards in the original set, 575 cards in the whole first generation (excluding promotionals), and 151 Pokémon, not 150. The only thing that used seasons was the cartoon, and season 2 was still part of the first generation. I'm not exactly sure what you're saying. :P

Back when I played Pokémon I used to think Japanese cards were more valuable. Turns out it's the other way around entirely. :/

Re: Do you collect anything?

Why? Pokémon cards were printed in such high quantities that after the fad died down the secondary market value has gone to more or less zero for everything that's not tournament legal or called "base set Charizard." Likewise, Yu-Gi-Oh! is not as popular as it used to be and the insane power creep makes every old card useless. There's really not any money to be made in either game outside of the newest cards people play in tournaments, and even then there's not really a conceivable way to profit outside of owning a card shop since they're all in print or only very shortly out of print. Any card game other than Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Magic is worth even less, since those are the only ones anyone plays seriously anymore.

I have all my Pokémon cards still and I'd be lucky to get maybe 100 dollars for them. Not even my large collection of promotionals has a card worth more than 5 dollars in it.

It doesn't really matter how low the supply is if the demand is low enough as well.
