I think Pete just wanted to humiliate him as much as he can by forcing him to go to the bathroom in the yard. Wouldn't surprise me if Pete brought attention to it and had everybody watch it.

Pete 'disappeared' because he was hauled into Heavenly court for abusing his powers during The Game, and having Joel/King as his avatar without consent.
