Or: Fun with Linguistics!

In this game, we list words that share common roots, one at a time. The easiest way to explain this is to give an example:

Chloroform
Chloroplast
Amyloplast
Amylase
DNA helicase
Helicopter
Ornithopter
Ornithology
Psychology
Psychopath
Telepath
Telephone
Xylophone
Xylophage
Anthropophage
...And so forth.

If you say a word that does not have a common root, but only sounds like it (example: dinosaur -> dinoflagellate: "dino-" comes from the Greek "deinos", meaning terrifying for dinosaur, and "dino" meaning rotation for dinoflagellate), you will receive a strike. All strikes are listed on this first post for all to see and laugh at.

We all got that? Alright! I'll start where that last one left off:

Anthropophage

_____

Strikes:
yehoshua
Tattorack
Seth
Seth
Seth

Polymorphism

Are we meant to volley between beginning and ending roots (probably are better words for these but I'm not a linguist) as per the example, or is that not necessarily a rule?

Yes it is.

It's more fun that way, but it's not required. For some instances, it's pretty much impossible to do it that way. Like with my next word.

hey guys

this game is more fun when your root is at least four letters long

we can say "tic" and "al" and "ness" all day long.
