House MD
House MD
Okay, I came up with the idea for this game while watching the show. Maybe you won't like it, but I think it could be pretty fun.
So... game goes like this. I am Dr. House. You are my team. I come up with some funny/interesting case, and then you come up with possible diagnosis. In my next post, I tell you what to do, then you tell me what you found out, and confirm/change your diagnosis from before. And then, I do what House does in the show - insult my team and solve the case.
Some things you should know
-Of course you don't have to have any medical knowledge for this game. It's a game. Your diagnosis should be funny/stupid/silly, or anything you'd like. Just an advice - don't make it "too" sci-fi.
-Once I put up a case, only the first 4 posters get to be part of my team. Once one round is over, the participants must skip one round to let others get a chance to be part of House's team.
I hope that this game sounds fun to at least some of you xD
First case:
Patient: 17 year old, female.
Symptoms: Hair falling off, severe headache.
Differential diagnosis... GO!

Re: House MD
my guess would be cancer, some kind of brain tumor or a mutant strand of both, maybe just a case of the munchies though

Re: House MD
actually, I'd test for some sort of heavy metal poisoning. Arsenic or something like that.
Re: House MD
(Okay, since this game apparently isn't going to be active, we'll do the first round with 3 people and see if others come later)
So, 3 theories, none of them explains the second symptom very well. Since you've got nothing better, Yehoshua, do an MRI, check for clots, draw blood and check for any infection. Because that fits, you know.
Geekyguy and Helmo, search her home for toxins.

Well, if it is cancer, we can start chemo and then we won't have to worry about the hair *bricked*
*sends her to get an MRI*

*goes to break into the patient's home to check for toxins*
it may also be radiation poisoning, so I'll check for that too.

Re: House MD
With a theory like radiation poisoning, it would help to know her occupation.

Re: House MD
*finds the file*accoring to this, two days ago she quit her job at a nuclear plant, complaining about constant head pains, she worked on the main floor, she could have had a leak in her suit and not known about it

Re: House MD
I found a flaw in you brick Y.
Bloodclots CAN be stressful, but only if you know about them; If she knew about them, then she wouldn't be here with us, and we wouldn't be testing her. She would be in the Cardio Lab getting this looked at.

Re: House MD
Well, the MRI came up negative for blood clots... I think I'm gonna go with radiation sickness, makes enough sense, Helm, you check the uniform, I'll check with what the staff at the plant has to say.

Re: House MD
*goes to the plant and carefully inspects her suit*there appears to be a small leak at the base of the hose attached to the helmet, so its highly probable that she was exposed to radiation

Re: House MD
You're all right. But the only right thing you did is prove that everyone else is wrong. Radiation poisoning also causes diarrhea, low blood cells count and nausea, which... she doesn't have. The leak you found could have destroyed her immune system, and the symptoms fit fungal poisoning. Start her on anti-fungal medicine, and send her home once she's all better. Also, Tiger, you're late. As a punishment, you're going to cover my 8 hours of clinic duty.
Case over!
New case:
-27 year old African-American male;
-Dizziness, disorientation, hallucinations. ER ruled out infections, cancer and autoimmune.
-And the most interesting part, the tips of his finger are hurting. They're also covered with connective tissue.
Differential diagnosis, go!

Re: House MD
Has anyone checked his blood-oxygen level? Or maybe checked for symptoms of de-hydration?
What am I doing here you ask? Why should I deal with clinic duty if some resident can do it for me? Plus they need the experience.

Re: House MD
*cough
though I guess if House doesn't always follow the rules, why should we?

Re: House MD
Well, since not a lot of people are willing to play, I guess we can skip that rule for now.
So, let's try this again:
-27 year old African-American male;
-Dizziness, disorientation, hallucinations. ER ruled out infections, cancer and autoimmune.
-And the most interesting part, the tips of his finger are hurting. They're also covered with connective tissue.
Differential diagnosis, go!

Re: House MD
Maybe a neurological disorder but the connective tissue on his fingers is beyond me.

Has anyone checked his Blood-oxygen level? Or maye checked for de-hydraation?
For de-hydration, just get some sterile water IV fluid and he'll be fine.

Re: House MD
Dehydration doesn't cause the appearance of connective tissue on the tip of his fingers. But since you morons didn't check on the history of our patient, let me fill you up - he's not from here, so we can't check his home. However, what you can check is the hotel room he's staying in.
Yeho, you do it. Kitty, you go to my home and bring my guitar. I want to see this guy play. If I'm right, he's good - it can cause the finger tips problem.
