OK, this is my attempt at a Japanese Translation. Yes, the text is left to right, but that's because it doesn't fit so well top to bottom
If anyone has any understanding of Japanese please tell me how this translation could be better. (I've only got JPN I and an online source for figuring out the "casual speak").
Here we go...

Advice is good (I mean, one speech bubble is entirely a Google translation )

Now I Japanese it up in here. If you have means to counter please go ahead because I am not an expert by any scale, but anyway, these are things I think.


I have never seen the kanji for boku ever actually used. Like, ever. It looks very weird to me to see it there, but then, I'm not exactly Japanese myself. Still I'd recommend changing it back to either of the kana alphabets.

Also it would definitely not be watakushi! That would completely make the situation awkward. It's far too formal for the leader to use while addressing a subject. In fact, in most situations even when talking to someone who is above you it's far too formal. Be very very careful with watakushi. I've gotten a couple lectures on that word in the past, though I've never even used it (never had the need to except for with the principal of a university I was visiting, but he said I could speak in English and I knew even less Japanese back then so I did). Watashi should be used. If there's a better word for it than watashi go ahead, but not watakushi.

There are copious amounts of Kanji there. Do you know what they all mean or did you just press spacebar and hope for the best? D: Because I certainly have no idea what they all mean. Not all of them. I'm fairly rusty.

It's weird that Grape would use kudasai when talking with Peanut, too.

Second, there's a more polite form which can serve as the command form for close friends. Third, there's the normal-polite command, which is a little stiff but serves well for strangers. Then there's the honorific form, which is very polite. It is the only form you are supposed to use when giving "commands" to a superior (which makes them sound like polite requests or suggestions). [I'm glossing a bit here; there are actually several ways to make commands at each politeness level. I'm just giving a brief overview for now].

Let's look at the verb suwaru, to sit down.

Impolite, true command form: Suware (don't use this as a matter of course)
Casual: Suwari nasai
Polite: Suwatte kudasai
Honorific: Osuwari kudasai.

Okay so not nasai since it's a bit too strict, but as they said, they were glossing over. My point is that the polite level using kudasai would be far too stiff for best friends. I would recommend taking it back to the casual level and stick to te kure.




Finally, to be honest, if you're going to make the Japanese left-to-right, the panels would probably be left-to-right too. It's just a feeling and I'd have to ask to make sure, but still.

I've only read a few pages from the Naruto manga in Japanese, but you're right he used katakana for boku, so I'll try that out.
I don't know anything about watakushi, except that it is very formal and Zazu uses it in "I Just Can't Wait to be King"
I figured since Grape was playing as the emperor it might be appropriate (she starts with boku, but then goes for watakushi).
But I can use watashi if it's better.

I am aware of what each kanji means. I used google translator as a reference for a lot of the kanji (and quite a bit of the phrasing). Not the most reliable source, but I assume at least the vocab is all correct. Also I assume the kanji I used for the pun is fairly high level, but it was reeeeeeally hard to find a good (bad) pun. Reads "koutei no tenki wa haran desu", the pun being that the kanji used for tenki means outcome, but sounds like weather. "The emperor's weather is stormy." "The emperor's outcome is stormy." (BAD!)

Edit: Looking the kanji up, it appears the only high level kanji in that pun is emperor (which ironically I assumed was lower level). The rest are like grade 3 (and one grade 6, which is a bit higher).

Oh, OK, didn't know about kure (I'm only familiar with the polite form of conversation) : "keshitekure," will do.

I don't think it'll fit going up and down, and I don't have the tools to re-draw speech bubbles, so... left to right it is...

It took a lot of searching because I had no idea, but nani wo suru no da (suru n da) seems to mean more along the lines of "what are you doing" as opposed to "what will you do".

funnily, my searching for the definition of this phrase ended up with questions about doushite that people happened to include dousuru in the answer

And by the way, "dou suru no" means "what will you do?" not "what's wrong?"

So, dousita literally means "How did you do"(What happened to you?)
dousuru? "How do we do?"(What are we gonna do?)
dousite? "How come?"

Edit: It still says SLAM ... yeah. Anyone know how to get GIMP to let you write stuff on an angle like that?

so far, I had to save the image, rotate it, write the new effect as if writing an horizontal line and then rotate the image back to normal.

On a side note:
Bino's name pops up in the next comic. How does everyone pronounce it: Bye-no or Bee-no?

Ask Rick in PM. I have always pronunced Bee-no...

my bad. In italy, Fido and Bino are pronounced Fee-do and Bee-no.

Same thing in France.

I also say it that way, sounds better also, so I will just imagine it is Bee-no and Fee-though.

This translation looks awesome, but unfortunately I don't know Japanese.

Well, from what I know, in some mangas like Naruto or Death Note, the strips is left to right. So I decided to remake the strips to looks like manga pages (or near to it. ), but to finish it I gonna need a .txt file with every text from the translated strips.
